TL;DR: In this paper, the thermal conductivity, k, of carbon dioxide is measured by adopting the conductivity column method in the temperature range 100°c to 1075°c and the estimated accuracy of k values is ±2 per cent and these are correlated within an average absolute deviation of 0·5 per cent by the following quadratic polynomial in temperature (T): Here k is in cal cm-1 s-1deg-1 and T in degrees Kelvin.
Abstract: The thermal conductivity, k, of carbon dioxide is measured by adopting the conductivity column method in the temperature range 100°c to 1075°c. The measurements are taken at various pressures between 12·5 and 50·5 cm of mercury where the k values are found to be independent of gas pressure. The estimated accuracy of k values is ±2 per cent and these are correlated within an average absolute deviation of 0·5 per cent by the following quadratic polynomial in temperature (T): Here k is in cal cm-1 s-1deg-1 and T in degrees Kelvin. The present measurements agree well with the existing data. However, the latter have a large scatter and consequently the present work helps in resolving some of the controversies faced by correlators of k data. The theoretically calculated k values are appreciably smaller than the experimental results and this disagreement is attributed to a different value for the diffusion coefficient characterizing the transport of internal energy in comparison to the more familiar one associat...

TL;DR: In this article, the longitudinal field penetration into a semi-bounded plasma considering specularly reflecting electrons at the boundary has been studied and the anomalous skin effect has been discussed.
Abstract: Landau studied the longitudinal field penetration into a semi-bounded plasma considering specularly reflecting electrons at the boundary.Kurilko andPopov and thenGorman examined the same problem considering a fraction ‘p’ of all incident electrons reflecting specularly and the remaining portion diffusely. Lastly,Mason treated the same problem at length transverse electromagnetic waves into a semi-bounded plasma has been formulated. We have studied specular reflection of electrons and applied these results to discuss the anomalous skin effect.

TL;DR: In this article, the formation of 1:1 derivatives of copper(I) with n-dodecanethiol, toluene-α-thiol, thiophenol, 2-mercaptoethanol, mono-thioglycerol and thiobenzoic acid has been shown by pH-metric titrations.
Abstract: The formation of 1:1 derivatives of copper(I) with n-dodecanethiol, toluene-α-thiol, thiophenol, 2-mercaptoethanol, mono-thioglycerol and thiobenzoic acid has been shown by pH-metric titrations. However, in the case of 2-mercaptoethanol and monothioglycerol, the alkalimetric titrations indicate the possibility of 2:1 (Cu(I):thio-compound) derivatives also. The infrared spectra of some of these compounds have been recorded and based on these studies tentative structures have been proposed.

TL;DR: In this article, the positron lifetimes in alkali halides are calculated assuming the outer shell electrons of the halide ion to form an "electron plasma" which is capable of concentrating around a positron, and calculated annihilation rates are found to be in good agreement with the experimental results.

TL;DR: In this article, the variance and an unbiased estimate of variance for an estimator in T3-class, which is proved to have several good properties by Godambe [2], [3], are derived for sampling with varying probabilities with or without replacement.
Abstract: Horvitz and Thompson [4] introduced three classes of linear estimators for estimation of population characteristics on the basis of a sample drawn with varying probabilities and without replacement. TheirT3-class of estimators does not admit a best unbiased estimator. In this paper, the variance and an unbiased estimate of variance for an estimator in T3-class, which is proved to have several good properties by Godambe [2], [3], are derived for sampling with varying probabilities with or without replacement.

TL;DR: In this article, conditions under which rapid and quantitative separation of 234Th occurs by adsorption on Bi(IO3)3, BIO4)3 and Pb(IO 3)2 are described.
Abstract: Conditions are described under which rapid and quantitative separation of 234Th occurs by adsorption on Bi(IO3)3, Bi(IO4)3, Pb(IO3)2. The activity is retained even in presence of considerable amounts of inactive thorium, uranyl and ferric ions. It appears that the activity is adsorbed by counter-ion exchange followed by inhomogeneous mixed crystal formation.

Abstract: Imre, Buti and others studied the longitudinal waves from the general dispersion relation. Here we have derived the dispersion relation for the longitudinal waves in relativistic plasmas, a result which cannot easily be brought in a physically more convenient form.

TL;DR: In this paper, Monte Carlo calculations of the decays of spallation hyperfragments produced from 1.5 and 3.5 GeV/c K− interactions for various values of the lifetime are presented.
Abstract: The results of the Monte Carlo calculations of the decays of spallation hyperfragments (massA ∼ 20 toA ∼ 90) produced from 1.5 and 3.5 GeV/c K− interactions for various values of the lifetime are presented. The forward/backward asymmetry of the recoils at the decay point with respect to the hyperfragments is used to infer the lifetime. The results of the Monte Carlo calculations are compared with the experimental data of 235 events. It is estimated that the mean lifetime of such hyperfragments is about (2±1)·10−12 s.
