Abstract: Reactions of silicon tetraacetate with different types ofSchiff bases have been investigated in anhydrous benzene. Monofunctional bidentate, C6H5CH∶NXOH and HORCH∶NC6H5 [whereX=CH2CH2, CH2CH(CH3) or o-C6H4 and R=o-C6H4 or 2,1-C10H6], bifunctional tridentate, o-HOC6H4CH∶NYOH [whereY=CH2CH2 or CH2CH(CH3)] and bifunctional tetradentateSchiff bases, o-HOC6H4C(CH3)∶N(CH2)nN∶C(CH3)C6H4OH-o (wheren=2 or 3) have been shown to yield derivatives of the type, Si(OAc)4−mLm, Si(OAc)4−2nLn′ and Si(OAc)2L″ (wherem=1,2 or 3;n=1 or 2 and HL, H2L′ and H2L″ represent the molecules of monofunctional bidentate, bifunctional tridentate and bifunctional tetradentateSchiff bases resp.) and have been found to be monomeric in boiling benzene. Tentative structures based on IR and in a few cases PMR spectra have been indicated for the resulting derivatives.

TL;DR: Methods of construction of two-way designs based upon the series of BIB design are given and the basic advantage of these methods is that the designs so obtv, ined are either balanced or partially balanced and require lesser number of observations.
Abstract: Designs for two-way elimination of heterogeneity are of fundamental importance. Any tlu·ee factor additive design is defined to be a design for two-way elimination of heterogeneity. Methods of construction of these designs have been considered by Shrikhande [1951], Youden [1937], Potthoff [1962], Shrivastava and Anderson [1971], Agrawal [1966(a),(b),(c),(d),(e)], Agrawal and Sharma [1975]. In this paper methods of construction of two-way designs based upon the series of BIB design v = 4t+ 1, b = 2v, 1' = 4t, k = 2t, A = 2t-1 are given, analyses of the designs are included as well. The notation followed are that of AgTawal [1966(a)]. In section 2 some theorems based on the BIB design v = 4t+1 (prime power), b = 2v, 1' = -4t, k = 2t, A= 2t-1 are proved. In section 3 various methods of construction of two-way designs along with their analyses based on these theorems are given. The basic advantage of these methods is that the designs so obtv, ined are either balanced or partially balanced and require lesser number of observations.

TL;DR: In this article, the 1∵1 stoichiometry of the bibasic tetradentateSchiff bases is shown by elemental analysis and conductometric titrations, and the molar conductence values in nitrobenzene indicate the nonelectrolytic behaviour and the magnetic susceptibility measurements by the Gouy method show these complexes to be diamagnetic.
Abstract: Bibasic tetradentateSchiff bases having the donor system OH−NX−NX−OH have been shown to form UO2(NO3)2(SBH2) type of derivatives [SBH2 is the molecule of the bibasic tetradentateSchiff bases such as HOC6H4C(R)∶ ∶N(CH2)nN∶C(R)C6H4OH (where R=H or CH3 andn=2 or 3) and HOC(R′)∶CHC(CH3)∶N(CH2)nN∶C(CH3)CH∶ ∶C(R′)OH (where R′=CH3 or C6H5 andn=2 or 3)]. The 1∶1 stoichiometry of these complexes is shown by elemental analysis and conductometric titrations. The molar conductence values in nitrobenzene indicate the non-electrolytic behaviour and the magnetic susceptibility measurements by the Gouy method show these complexes to be diamagnetic.

TL;DR: The directed divergence of type β which generalizes Kullback's directed divergence or Information measure has been characterized by a simple method using a set of four postulates and a theorem regarding the unique derivation of relative Information measure of type (α, β).
Abstract: The directed divergence of type β which generalizes Kullback's directed divergence or Information measure has been characterized by a simple method using a set of four postulates. This generalized directed divergence has a relation with Renyi's Information gain of order β. This relation can be used to give a characterization of Information gain of order β. Finally a theorem regarding the unique derivation of relative Information measure of type (α, β) is stated.

TL;DR: In this paper, the problem of heat transfer in the steady flow of an incompressible second order fluid between infinite circular porous discs has been investigated when the flow is entirely due to either suction or injection through, the discs.
Abstract: The problem of heat transfer in the steady flow of an incompressible second order fluid between infinite circular porous discs has been investigated when the flow is entirely due to either suction or injection through, the discs. Taking the suction or injection parameter to be small, the equations of momentum and energy have been solved using the perturbation technique. The temperature distribution has been shown graphically in various cases and compared with the Newtonian fluid. It isinteresting to observe that the temperature in case of the second order fluid is more than that of Newtonian fluid when there is equal suction at the discs (which is in conformity with the observation of Bhatnagar [6]), while this phenomenon is reversed in the case of being equal injection at the discs. Nusselt's number of both the discs has also been obtained.

TL;DR: In this article, the stability constants of praseodymium chelates of 3,4,5-trihydroxy sodium benzoate were determined by using Bjerrum-Calvin pH titration technique at constant ionic strength 0.1M-sodium perchlorate and at 28±0.1°C.
Abstract: Stability constants of praseodymium chelates of 3,4,5-trihydroxy sodium benzoate are determined by using Bjerrum-Calvin pH titration technique at constant ionic strength 0.1M-sodium perchlorate and at 28±0.1°C. Values calculated by different methods are in good agreement. The study reveals that during complexation only one proton of the ligand molecule is replaced by the metal and oxygen of adjacent phenolic group acts as a coordinating atom. IR and NMR spectral studies of the ligand reveal that one of the OH groups (in meta position to carboxylic group) remains free while two other phenolic groups are involved in intramolecular hydrogen bonding. One water molecule is found attached in crystalline gallic acid.

TL;DR: Schiff base complexes of uranium(V) of the type U(OC2H5)5-x(SB)x have been synthesised in almost quantitative yields by the reactions of uranium pentaethoxide with the Schiff base (SBH) in 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3 molar ratios under anhydrous conditions.
Abstract: Schiff base complexes of uranium(V) of the type U(OC2H5)5-x(SB)x (where SB represents the anion of the Schiff bases derived from salicylaldehyde and alkylamines of the type o-HOC6H4 CH[dbnd]NR, where R = C2H5, n-C4H7 or n-C4H9 and x = 1, 2 or 3) have been synthesised in almost quantitative yields by the reactions of uranium pentaethoxide with the Schiff base (SBH) in 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3 molar ratios under anhydrous conditions. Complexes of the type U(OC2H5) (SB) and U(OC2H5)3(SB)2 appear to be dimeric, whereas U(OC2H5)2(SB), type of complexes are monomeric in boiling benzene. The infrared spectra of these complexes show coordination of uranium to oxygen as well as nitrogen. The exchange reactions of some of these complexes in presence of excess of tertiary butanol and phenol have also been carried out.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the mixed ligand derivatives of 1∶1-Th(IV)-DTPA chelate with certain secondary ligands, such as lactic, mandelic and o-hydroxynaphthoic acids, and determined the equilibrium constants of the resulting mixed complexes at 30±1°C and μ=0.1 (KNO3).
Abstract: Potentiometric studies of the mixed ligand derivatives of 1∶1-Th(IV)—DTPA chelate (whereDTPA=diethylene-triamine pentaacetic acid) with certain secondary ligands, such as lactic, mandelic and o-hydroxynaphthoic acids have been carried out. The pH-titrations of the reaction mixtures containing 1∶1∶1 molar ratio of metal ion toDTPA to secondary ligand have shown the formation of 1∶1∶1 ternary complexes at higher pH (≈8). The equilibrium constants of the resulting mixed complexes have been determined at 30±1°C and μ=0.1 (KNO3) and the order of stability in terms of secondary ligands has been found to be o-hydroxy naphthoic acids>mandelic acid>lactic acid.

TL;DR: Investigation on the nutritive role of different carbohydrates for the survival and growth of Oryzaephilus mercator show that fructose, glucose, dextrin and glycogen are of high nutritive value, fructose being even better than natural control diet.
Abstract: Recent investigations on the nutritive role of different carbohydrates for the survival and growth of Oryzaephilus mercator show that fructose, glucose, dextrin and glycogen are of high nutritive value, fructose being even better than natural control diet (wheat + 5% yeast). Maltose, soluble starch, mannitol and sorbitol, although support some growth, are not of as good nutritive value as control diet. All pentoses, sorbose, galactose, lactose, raffinose, potato starch, inulin and dulcitol are of no nutritive value.
