TL;DR: Results suggest that the contraceptive effects of chloroform extract of papaya seeds are mainly post-testicular in nature without influencing toxicological profile and libido of the animals.
Abstract: Crude chloroform extract of C. papaya seeds (5 mg/animal/day, po, for 20, 40 and 60 days) was investigated for contraceptive efficacy and related side effects in male albino rats. The crude extract reduced fertility to zero per cent by 40 to 60 days of treatment. Suppression of cauda epididymal sperm motility was the most pronounced effect of the drug administration. Scanning electron microscopic observations revealed treatment induced abnormalities in sperms. Cauda epididymal and testicular sperm counts decreased following treatment. Clinical parameters did not show any alterations. Results suggest that the contraceptive effects of chloroform extract of papaya seeds are mainly post-testicular in nature without influencing toxicological profile and libido of the animals.

TL;DR: Complete recovery of all the altered parameters except sperm motility in the high dose intramuscular group was evident following 60 and 45 days of treatment withdrawal in animals dosed orally an...
Abstract: A crude ethanol extract of Carica papaya L. seeds was administered to male albino rats at dose regimens of 10 and 50 mg/animal/day orally for 30, 60 and 90 days and 0.1 and 1.0 mg/animal/day intramuscularly for 15 and 30 days for the evaluation of contraceptive efficacy, reversibility and related side effects. Significant decreases in cauda epididymal sperm motility, sperm count, fertility and litter size were observed after oral dosing of the extract, while intramuscular administration caused significant decreases in cauda epididymal sperm motility and litter size. Testis weight decreased significantly after oral, but not intramuscular, administration. Body weight response, hematological parameters and blood/serum biochemical parameters were comparable to control values throughout the experimental period. Complete recovery of all the altered parameters except sperm motility in the high dose intramuscular group was evident following 60 and 45 days of treatment withdrawal in animals dosed orally an...

TL;DR: In this paper, the energy and centrality dependence of local particle pseudorapidity densities as well as validity of various parametrizations of the distributions are examined and the dispersion, σ, of the rapidity density distribution of produced particles varies slowly with centrality and is 0.80, 0.98, 1.21 and 1.41 for central interactions at 3.7, 14.6, 60 and 200A GeV incident energy.
Abstract: The energy and centrality dependence of local particle pseudorapidity densities as well as validity of various parametrizations of the distributions are examined. The dispersion, σ, of the rapidity density distribution of produced particles varies slowly with centrality and is 0.80, 0.98, 1.21 and 1.41 for central interactions at 3.7, 14.6, 60 and 200A GeV incident energy, respectively, σ is found to be independent of the size of the interacting system at fixed energy. A novel way of representing the window dependence of the multiplicity as normalized variance versus inverse average multiplicity is outlined.

TL;DR: In this article, a trigonal bipyramidal geometry for the resulting tririorganotin(IV) complexes has been proposed, where the nitrogen atom occupies the axial site, while two methyl groups rest in equatorial positions.
Abstract: Triorganotin(IV) complexes having an azomethine linkage have been prepared by the substitution reactions of trimethyl tin chloride with heterocyclic thiosemicarbazones and characterized by elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations and conductivity measurements. On the basis of infrared, 1H, 13C and 119Sn NMR spectroscopy studies, a trigonal bipyramidal geometry for the resulting complexes has been proposed. The nitrogen atom occupies the axial site, while two methyl groups rest in equatorial positions. The antifungal activity of some of the ligands and their metal complexes has also been evaluated against different pathogenic fungi.

TL;DR: The title compounds 3 and 7 are novel heterocyclic systems incorporating two-coordinate phosphorus as mentioned in this paper, obtained in reasonable to good yields from the condensation of suitable 2-ethyl-3-alkylthiazolinium and -benzothiazolium bromides 2 and 6 with phosphorus trichloride in the presence of triethylamine in an aprotic solvent.
Abstract: The title compounds 3 and 7 are novel heterocyclic systems incorporating two-coordinate phosphorus. They are obtained in reasonable to good yields from the condensation of suitable 2-ethyl-3-alkylthiazolinium and -benzothiazolium bromides 2 and 6 with phosphorus trichloride in the presence of triethylamine in an aprotic solvent. Intermediate dichlorophosphino-substituted N-ylides can be observed or isolated in some cases. From a 2-methyl-3-alkylthiazolinium bromide (2a), a 1-(dichlorophosphino) substituted 1, 3-azaphospholo[5,1-b]thiazoline (4) was obtained. The chemical shift of the two-coordinate phosphorus in 1,3-azaphosphole derivatives clearly reflects the influence of the heterocyclic system annulated to its 1,5-bond and of the substituents in its 2-and 4-positions.

TL;DR: Solasodine treatment prevented the accumulation of cholesterol in the liver and aorta and regressed plaque size in the thoracic and abdominal aortA and Faecal excretion of cholesterol and phospholipids was significantly increased suggesting that modulation of absorption was affected.
Abstract: Solasodine (C 27 H 42 O 2 N), a nitrogen analogue of diosgenin reduced serum cholesterol and LDL cholesterol by 73.3% and 73.5% and prevented atherogenesis (Atherogenic index-control: 1.99; athero- group: 3.12; solasodine treatment 2.12-2.32). The cholesterol/phospholipid ratio was decreased by 42.02% while the HDL ratio was raised significantly. Solasodine treatment prevented the accumulation of cholesterol in the liver and aorta and regressed plaque size in the thoracic and abdominal aorta. Faecal excretion of cholesterol and phospholipids was significantly (p>0.001) increased suggesting that modulation of absorption was affected

TL;DR: Bromine does not add to phosphorus in a 2-phosphaindolizine 1 but substitutes its 1position as mentioned in this paper, and the resulting 1-dichlorophosphino derivatives 5 easily undergo a substituent exchange at the exocyclic phosphorus.
Abstract: Bromine does not add to phosphorus in a 2-phosphaindolizine 1 but substitutes its 1-position. The 1-bromo derivatives 2 are best prepared with Br2/NEt3 or N-bromosuccinimide. Their hydrolysis is remarkable; it involves a debromination of C-1, an oxidation of P and a selective opening of the P/C-3 bond. PCl3 also causes a substitution of the 1-position. The resulting 1-dichlorophosphino derivatives 5 easily undergo a substituent exchange at the exocyclic phosphorus. More 1-phosphino derivatives are formed in the reaction of 1 with phenyl and diazaphospholyl dichlorophosphine.

TL;DR: In this article, the transient plane source (TPS) technique was employed to measure experimentally the thermal conductivity of three selected steel samples, taking into account factors such as the composition and the nature of the alloying elements.
Abstract: The transient plane source (TPS) technique was employed to measure experimentally the thermal conductivity of three selected steel samples. Measured values of thermal conductivities are critically analysed, taking into account factors such as the composition and the nature of the alloying elements. An effort is made to determine the temperature dependence of thermal conductivity of these samples from room temperature to 300°C. Results of the present measurements are also discussed in the light of the values of thermal conductivity on equivalent steels measured by other workers.

Abstract: Several new complexes of Sb(III) and Bi(III) with thiosemicarbazones of furfuraldehyde, thiophene-2-carbaldehyde, indol-3-carbaldehyde and pyridine-2-carbaldehyde have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity, molecular weight determination and IR,1H-and13C-NMR spectral studies. The ligands form complexes of the typeMX3L[M=Sb(III) or Bi(III);X=chloride;L=ligand] which are found to be non-electrolytes inDMF. Spectral data indicate that the thiosemicarbazones act as bidentate ligands through the azomethine nitrogen and sulphur.

TL;DR: In this article, the results of resistivity and X-ray absorption measurements on Bi 2 Ca 1 Sr 2 Cu 2 O y (BISCCO) with partial substitution of Fe varying from 0 to 5% in place of Cu were reported.
Abstract: We report the results of resistivity and X-ray absorption measurements on Bi 2 Ca 1 Sr 2 Cu 2 O y (BISCCO) with partial substitution of Fe varying from 0 to 5% in place of Cu. The X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD) of different samples confirm the single-phase nature. With progressive doping of Fe orthorhombicity and structural disorder are observed. The transition temperature T c is decreasing monotonically with Fe doping and the rate of T c decrease is around 7 K per at.% of the nominal substitution. The X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) results show that Fe is incorporated in the lattice with FeO bonds substituting for CuO bonds and Fe is present predominantly in the trivalent state.

Abstract: Autoxidation of SIV to SVI in acetate buffered aqueous suspensions of Ni2O3 obeys the rate law Robs=(k4+k5[H+]−1)[Ni2O3][SIV][O2] The suggested mechanism requires the adsorption of O2 on the Ni2O3 surface, followed by the reaction of HSO 3 − and SO 3 2− with these oxygenated particles.

TL;DR: In this paper, the phonon frequencies of a binary metallic glass, employing a simple model approach, were derived both for longitudinal and transverse branches of phonon frequency for self-consistent screening of conduction electrons with and without the inclusion of correlation effects.
Abstract: Analytical expressions for the phonon frequencies of a binary metallic glass, employing a simple model approach, are derived both for longitudinal and transverse branches of phonon frequencies. Our model assumes a central force, effective between the nearest neighbours, and a volume-dependent force. The computation of the phonon frequencies of the longitudinal and transverse phonons in Mg70Zn30 glass is carried out both for self-consistent screening of conduction electrons with and without the inclusion of correlation effects. Phonon frequency expressions reproduce the main characteristics features of the dispersion curves obtained by molecular dynamics and neutron inelastic scattering for the longitudinal branch for few momentum transfers near the first peak of static structure factor.

Abstract: Computations of the frequencies of the longitudinal and transverse phonon modes in a binary metallic glass (Cu57Zr43) based on a simple model approach have been presented. The model assumes a central force effective between nearest neighbours, and a volume dependent force. Both types of excitations of phonons are computed for the self-consistent screening and are compared to those computed by Kobayashi and Takeuchi using recursion method.

TL;DR: In this article, the elastic and thermodynamic properties of metallic glasses (Ca70Mg30, Mg70Zn30, Cu57Zr43 and Pd77.5Si16.5) were derived from dispersion relations in the low momentum region derived by various dielectric screenings, adopting a simple model given by Bhatia and Singh.
Abstract: The elastic and thermodynamic properties of metallic glasses (Ca70Mg30, Mg70Zn30, Cu57Zr43 and Pd77.5Si16.5Cu6) are obtained from dispersion relations in the low momentum region derived by us for various dielectric screenings, adopting a simple model given by Bhatia and Singh. This model assumes a central force, effective between nearest neighbours and a volume dependent force. For elastic properties, elastic constantsC 11 andC 44 are obtained from slopes of longitudinal and transverse dispersion relations, respectively, whereasC 12 is found by the requirement that elastic anisotropy for disordered systems, like metallic glass, is to be zero. For thermodynamic properties, Debye temperature is calculated for the glasses for various dielectric screenings.
