Abstract: This paper cross-culturally tests an extended version of the planned behavior theory. Using cross-sectional surveys of 801 university students from four different cultures (high vs. low individualism, and English- vs. Spanish-speaking), we expected anticipated feelings of guilt to predict behavioral intention in cultures high on individualism, whereas anticipated feelings of embarrassment would be predictive of intention in cultures low on individualism. Results from a series of structural equation models showed that anticipated embarrassment had virtually the same effect as guilt across all four cultures. Although technically distinct, anticipated guilt and embarrassment were nearly indistinguishable from an individual perspective so that either concept is able to increase the explanatory power of the planned behavior theory for environmental conservation.

Abstract: We present Lambda Lambda correlation measurements in heavy-ion collisions for Au + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV using the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider. The Lednicky-Lyuboshitz analytical model has been used to fit the data to obtain a source size, a scattering length and an effective range. Implications of the measurement of the Lambda Lambda correlation function and interaction parameters for dihyperon searches are discussed.

Abstract: Mentha piperita (Linn.)/CFU-S/LD50/30/GSH/LPO/Serum phosphatases activity/Gamma radiation. The oral administration of Mentha extract (ME) before exposure to gamma radiation was found to be effective in increasing the frequency of radiation-induced endogenous spleen colonies. A significant increase in the weight of the spleen was observed in animals of the Mentha and radiation combined group in compar- ison to the irradiation-alone group on day 10 of postirradiation. Furthermore, a significant increase in the body weight of animals in the Mentha and radiation combined group was observed in all the radiation doses stud- ied. A regression analysis of survival data yielded LD50/30 as 6.48 ± 0.07 and 11.59 ± 0.21 Gy for the irradi- ation-alone and the Mentha and radiation combined group, respectively, and produced a dose reduction factor (DRF) of 1.78. Significant increases in total erythrocyte and leucocyte counts, hemoglobin concentration, and hematocrit values were observed in the animals of the Mentha and radiation combined group in comparison to the hematological values observed in the irradiation-alone group at all radiation doses studied (6, 8, and 10 Gy). A dose-dependent decrease in reduced glutathione (GSH) content and an increase in lipid peroxida- tion (LPO) levels were observed in control animals. However, the animals of the Mentha and radiation com- bined group exhibited a significant increase in GSH content and a decrease in LPO level, but the values remained below normal. A significant increase in the serum alkaline phosphatase activity was observed in the animals of the Mentha and radiation combined group during the entire period of study, and normal range was evident at 24 h (6 Gy) and day 5 (8 Gy). However, this level could not be restored even at day 30 in 10 Gy exposed animals. Measured acid phosphatase activity in the animals of the Mentha and radiation combined group was found to be significantly lower than the respective controls and attained normal value at day 5 (6 and 8G y) and day 20 (10 Gy).

Abstract: The protective role of leaves of Mentha piperita Linn (Mint) was studied in adult Swiss albino mice against arsenic-induced hepatopathy. The animals were divided into four groups. Group I: only vehicle (0.9% NaCl) was administered. Group II: the animals received Mentha leaf extract (1 g/kg body weight per day) orally for 30 days. Group III: animals were treated with sodium arsenite (4 mg/kg body weight) intraperitoneally in 0.9% NaCl. Group IV: animals were given Mentha extract for 10 consecutive days prior to sodium arsenite treatment and continuously for 30 days after sodium arsenite treatment. The animals from the above groups were killed at various time-points, and body weight and liver weight were measured. The biochemical estimation of lipid peroxidation (LPO), reduced glutathione (GSH), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), acid phosphatase (ACP), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in liver and serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT), serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) in serum were done. In the arsenic-treated group there was a significant increase in ACP, ALP, SGOT, SGPT and LPO content, whereas a significant decrease was recorded in body weight, liver weight, GSH and LDH activity in liver. Pre- and post-treatment of Mentha with arsenic significantly alters the biochemical parameters in liver. A significant decline in ACP, ALP, SGOT, SGPT and LPO content was observed. However, a significant increase in body weight, liver weight, GSH content and LDH activity in liver was estimated. The results indicate that the Mentha extract may be useful in reducing the side effects of arsenic-induced hepatopathy.

Abstract: Elliptic flow (v(2)) values for identified particles at midrapidity in Au + Au collisions, measured by the STAR experiment in the beam energy scan at RHIC at root s(NN) = 7.7-62.4 GeV, are presented. A beamenergy-dependent difference of the values of v(2) between particles and corresponding antiparticles was observed. The difference increases with decreasing beam energy and is larger for baryons compared to mesons. This implies that, at lower energies, particles and antiparticles are not consistent with the universal number-of-constituent-quark scaling of v(2) that was observed at root s(NN) = 200 GeV.
