Abstract: Four spinel ferrite compositions of the CuAlxFe2–xO4, x = 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, system prepared by usual double-sintering ceramic route and quenched (rapid thermal cooling) from final sintering temperature (1373 K) to liquid nitrogen temperature (80 K) were investigated by employing X-ray powder diffractometry, 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy, and micro-Raman spectroscopy at 300 K. The Raman spectra collected in the wavenumber range of 100–1000 cm–1 were analyzed in a systematic manner and showed five predicted modes for the spinel structure and splitting of A1g Raman mode into two/three energy values, attributed to peaks belonging to each ion (Cu2+, Fe3+, and Al3+) in the tetrahedral positions. Abstract: Thriving industrialization for human lifestyle headway has seeded the roots of water intoxication with harmful and hazardous toxic metal ions and dyes, which may ingress into food chains and become homicidal or mutation causing for creatures. The degummed functionalized silk fibroin composites with different biomaterials and synthetic materials are able to show adsorption efficiencies equivalent to 52.5%, 90%, 81.1%, 93.75%, 84.2%, and 98.9% for chromium, copper, cadmium, lead, thorium, and uranium ions, respectively, and adsorption capacity of 88.5 mg/g, 74.63 mg/g, 76.34 mg/g, and 72 mg/L for acid yellow 11, naphthol orange, direct orange S, and methylene blue, respectively, which make them desirable solution for water toxicants removal. This review is intended to describe the ability of silk fibroins to adsorb and abolish toxic heavy metal ions and dyes from water reservoirs, thus, providing a way to step toward water sanitation and wholesome living.

Abstract: Oral administration of M. piperita (1 g/kg body weight/day) before exposure to gamma radiation was found to be effective in protecting against the chromosomal damage in bone marrow of Swiss albino mice. Animals exposed to 8 Gy gamma radiation showed chromosomal aberrations in the form of chromatid breaks, chromosome breaks, centric rings, dicentrics, exchanges and acentric fragments. There was a significant increase in the frequency of aberrant cells at 6 hr after irradiation. Maximum aberrant cells were observed at 12 hr post-irradiation autopsy time. Further, the frequency of aberrant cells showed decline at late post-irradiation autopsy time. However, in the animals pretreated with Mentha extract, there was a significant decrease in the frequency of aberrant cells as compared to the irradiated control. Also significant increase in percentage of chromatid breaks, chromosome breaks, centric rings, dicentrics, exchanges, acentric fragments, total aberrations and aberrations/damaged cell was observed at 12 hr post-irradiation autopsy time in control animals, whereas Mentha pretreated irradiated animals showed a significant decrease in percentage of such aberrations. A significant decrease in GSH content and increase in LPO level was observed in control animals, whereas Mentha pretreated irradiated animals exhibited a significant increase in GSH content and decrease in LPO level but the values remained below the normal. The radioprotective effect of Mentha was also demonstrated by determining the LD(50/30) values (DRF = 1.78). The results from the present study suggest that Mentha pretreatment provides protection against radiation induced chromosomal damage in bone marrow of Swiss albino mice.
