TL;DR: In this article, the process e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-) J/psi at a center-of-mass energy of 4.260 GeV using a 525 pb(-1) data sample collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider was studied.
Abstract: We study the process e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-) J/psi at a center-of-mass energy of 4.260 GeV using a 525 pb(-1) data sample collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The Born cross section is measured to be (62.9 +/- 1.9 +/- 3.7) pb, consistent with the production of the Y(4260). We observe a structure at around 3.9 GeV/c(2) in the pi(+/-) J/psi mass spectrum, which we refer to as the Z(c)(3900). If interpreted as a new particle, it is unusual in that it carries an electric charge and couples to charmonium. A fit to the pi(+/-) J/psi invariant mass spectrum, neglecting interference, results in a mass of (3899.0 +/- 3.6 +/- 4.9) MeV/c(2) and a width of (46 +/- 10 +/- 20) MeV. Its production ratio is measured to be R = (sigma(e(+)e(-) -> pi(+/-) Z(c)(3900)(-/+) -> pi(+)pi(-) J/psi)/sigma(e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-) J/psi)) = (21.5 +/- 3.3 +/- 7.5)%. In all measurements the first errors are statistical and the second are systematic.

TL;DR: The couplings of the Higgs boson are probed for deviations in magnitude from the standard model predictions in multiple ways, including searches for invisible and undetected decays, and no significant deviations are found.
Abstract: Properties of the Higgs boson with mass near 125 GeV are measured in proton-proton collisions with the CMS experiment at the LHC. Comprehensive sets of production and decay measurements are combined. The decay channels include gamma gamma, ZZ, WW, tau tau, bb, and mu mu pairs. The data samples were collected in 2011 and 2012 and correspond to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1 inverse femtobarns at 7 TeV and up to 19.7 inverse femtobarns at 8 TeV. From the high-resolution gamma gamma and ZZ channels, the mass of the Higgs boson is determined to be 125.02 +0.26 -0.27 (stat) +0.14 -0.15 (syst) GeV. For this mass value, the event yields obtained in the different analyses tagging specific decay channels and production mechanisms are consistent with those expected for the standard model Higgs boson. The combined best-fit signal relative to the standard model expectation is 1.00 +/- 0.09 (stat) +0.08 -0.07 (theo) +/- 0.07 (syst) at the measured mass. The couplings of the Higgs boson are probed for deviations in magnitude from the standard model predictions in multiple ways, including searches for invisible and undetected decays. No significant deviations are found.

TL;DR: The autoionization mechanism is revealed by sampling and analyzing ab initio molecular dynamics trajectories and the rare fluctuations in solvation energies that destabilize an oxygen-hydrogen bond are identified.
Abstract: The dissociation of a water molecule in liquid water is the fundamental event in acid-base chemistry, determining the pH of water. Because of the short time scales and microscopic length scales involved, the dynamics of this autoionization have not been directly probed by experiment. Here, the autoionization mechanism is revealed by sampling and analyzing ab initio molecular dynamics trajectories. We identify the rare fluctuations in solvation energies that destabilize an oxygen-hydrogen bond. Through the transfer of protons along a hydrogen bond "wire," the nascent ions separate by three or more neighbors. If the hydrogen bond wire connecting the two ions is subsequently broken, a metastable charge-separated state is visited. The ions may then diffuse to large separations. If, however, the hydrogen bond wire remains unbroken, the ions recombine rapidly. Because of their concomitant large electric fields, the transient ionic species produced in this case may provide an experimentally detectable signal of the dynamics we report.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors develop a theory of market segmentation based on consumer self-selection and show that this relaxation has significant implications for how the products and prices are chosen and what they look like.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to develop a theory of market segmentation based on consumer self-selection. The extant theory is based on the third-degree price discrimination model of Pigou, central assumptions of which are that the firm can directly address individual segments and isolate them. By using consumer self-selection, I am relaxing these assumptions. In the context of a monopolist designing a product line, I show that this relaxation has significant implications for how the products and prices are chosen and what they look like. In particular, segments may be aggregated even though there are no economies of scale. Furthermore, consumer self-selection enables us to model “cannibalization” and competition among firms.

TL;DR: This guideline update reflects emerging data on duration of tamoxifen treatment and suggests women who have hormone receptor-positive breast cancer and are pre- or perimenopausal and have received 5 years of adjuvant tamoxIFen should be offered 10 years total duration ofTamoxifens.
Abstract: Purpose To update the ASCO clinical practice guideline on adjuvant endocrine therapy on the basis of emerging data on the optimal duration of treatment, particularly adjuvant tamoxifen. Methods ASCO convened the Update Committee and conducted a systematic review of randomized clinical trials from January 2009 to June 2013 and analyzed three historical trials. Guideline recommendations were based on the Update Committee’s review of the evidence. Outcomes of interest included survival, disease recurrence, and adverse events. Results This guideline update reflects emerging data on duration of tamoxifen treatment. There have been five studies of tamoxifen treatment beyond 5 years of therapy. The two largest studies with longest reported follow-up show a breast cancer survival advantage with 10-year durations of tamoxifen use. In addition to modest gains in survival, extended therapy with tamoxifen for 10 years compared with 5 years was associated with lower risks of breast cancer recurrence and contralateral breast cancer.
