TL;DR: In this paper, a procedural analysis is used to explain differences between utterance expressions that cannot be explained in terms of the speech act theoretic notion of non-truth conditional indicators, and these differences show that the conception of procedural meaning as a constraint on contextual effects is too narrow and must be extended to include all information about the inferential processes involved in utterance interpretation, including context selection.
Abstract: The paper aims to clarify the Relevance theoretic notion of procedural meaning (cf. Blakemore 1987, Wilson & Sperber 1993) through the analysis of but and nevertheless. I show, first, that a procedural analysis is able to account for differences between these expressions that cannot be explained in terms of the speech-act theoretic notion of non-truth conditional indicators, and, second, that these differences show that the conception of procedural meaning as a constraint on contextual effects (cf. Blakemore 1987) is too narrow and must be extended to include all information about the inferential processes involved in utterance interpretation, including context selection.

TL;DR: This paper reviews and discusses the status of implementation of the BIM systems around the globe and their implications to the industry and based on the lessons learnt, it will provide a guide to tackle these challenges and to facilitate successful transition towards utilizing B IM systems in construction projects.
Abstract: The construction industry has been facing a paradigm shift to (i) increase; productivity, efficiency, infrastructure value, quality and sustainability, (ii) reduce; lifecycle costs, lead times and duplications, via effective collaboration and communication of stakeholders in construction projects. Digital construction is a political initiative to address low productivity in the sector. This seeks to integrate processes throughout the entire lifecycle by utilising building information modelling (BIM) systems. The focus is to create and reuse consistent digital information by the stakeholders throughout the lifecycle. However, implementation and use of BIM systems requires dramatic changes in the current business practices, bring new challenges for stakeholders e.g., the emerging knowledge and skill gap. This paper reviews and discusses the status of implementation of the BIM systems around the globe and their implications to the industry. Moreover, based on the lessons learnt, it will provide a guide to tackle these challenges and to facilitate successful transition towards utilizing BIM systems in construction projects.

TL;DR: Levels of interleukin-1 (IL-1) and prostaglandins D2 and E2 (PGE2) and PGD2 levels in CSF were measured to elucidate the changes induced by Trypanosoma brucei gambiense in the central nervous system in advanced sleeping sickness patients.
Abstract: To help to elucidate the changes induced by Trypanosoma brucei gambiense in the central nervous system (CNS) in advanced sleeping sickness patients, levels of interleukin-1 (IL-1) and prostaglandins D2 (PGD2) and E2 (PGE2) were measured by radioimmunoassay in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from 24 patients diagnosed on the criteria of CSF protein, leucocyte count and parasite presence as having CNS (i.e. late stage) involvement, and from 12 patients without CNS involvement. PGD2 concentrations were selectively and markedly elevated in the late stage patients. The increased PGD2 may in part account for the increased somnolence and the immunosuppression within the CNS. Measurement of PGD2 levels in CSF may be a useful criterion for CNS involvement.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the extent to which consumers' ethical concerns impact upon apparel purchase decisions and highlight the value of The Gap's corporate code of conduct in meeting these concerns.
Abstract: Purpose – To explore the extent to which consumers' ethical concerns impact upon apparel purchase decisions and highlight the value of The Gap's corporate code of conduct in meeting these concerns.Design/methodology/approach – Face‐to‐face questionnaires were conducted with Scottish consumers in February 2003. Respondents were recruited from central shopping areas using a convenience sampling method.Findings – Despite consumers possessing a high level of awareness of ethical issues, results reveal that factors such as price, quality and style have a greater influence on their apparel purchase behaviour than their concerns about the ethical practices of the supplier.Research limitations/implications – As the study was exploratory in nature and consisted of Scottish consumers only, generalisations of the results should be approached with some caution.Practical implications – Provides a useful insight into The Gap's corporate code of conduct and the extent to which such codes meet the ethical concerns of con...
