TL;DR: In this paper, the fundamental equations and boundary conditions of nonlinear axisymmetrical bending theory for the circular sandwich plates with a soft core are derived by means of the method of calculus of variations.
Abstract: In this paper, fundamental equations and boundary conditions of nonlinear axisymmetrical bending theory for the circular sandwich plates with a soft core are derived by means of the method of calculus of variations. Especially in the case of very thin faces, the preceding fundamental epuations and boundary conditions simplity considerably. For example, a circular sandwich plate with edge clamped but free to siip under the action of uniform lateral load is considered. A more accurate solution of this problem has been obtained by means of the modified iteration method.

TL;DR: In this article, a numerical analysis of the propagation of stress waves and the allied scabbing phenomena in a steel plate under explosive attack is made, by using a model of one-dimensional flow.
Abstract: A numerical analysis of the propagation of stress waves and the allied scabbing phenomena in a steel plate under explosive attack is made, by using a model of one-dimensional flow. The results are compared with our experimental results which were carried out several years ago. It is found that, in case the hydrodynamic-elastoplastic model for steel plate and the cumulative damage spall criterion are used, the calculated thickness of the major spall is in reasonable agreement with that obtained in the experiments. An approximate formula for the thickness of the major spall is presented and the “mica-splitting” phenomenon about the minor spalls observed in the experiments is satisfactorily explained.

TL;DR: In this article, the character of the radiation caused by electrons moving through air, bromine vapor and sodium vapor was studied experimentally using a 90 Sr β-source, and it was discovered that the angular distribution has obvious anisotropy and that the radiation emitted has a line spectrum and is plane polarized.

TL;DR: For 34 QSOs and 9 active galaxies with known optical variation and measured redshifts, the rate of optical variation appears to be positively correlated with the age as mentioned in this paper, older quasars vary more violently than younger ones and active galaxies are the most violent.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of neutrinos with non-zero rest-mass on the clustering process in the early universe is discussed. And the main conclusions are: (1) such neutrino will cause clustering of matter before the epoch of re-combination; (2) the mass so clustered will be in the range of the mass of clusters of galaxies; (3) there exists a preferential clustering scale, corresponding to the earliest onset of Jeans instability; (4) if the restmass is below a certain value, then there will be no

TL;DR: In this paper, a nonlinear theory for the index cycle of the zonal flows in relation to the instability of finite amplitude ultra-long waves is presented in a three-level quasi-geostrophic model ona β-plane.
Abstract: A nonlinear theory for the index cycle of the zonal flows in relation to the instabilityof finite amplitude ultra-long waves is presented in a three-level quasi-geostrophic model ona β-plane. It is shown that both the amplitude of ultra-long waves and the intensity of zonal flowsoscillate periodically. The periods of ocsillation which are related to the horizontal scale andinitial amplitude of ultra-long waves are about 2-6 weeks. The evolution of the calculatedflow field is analogous to the essential features of the index cycle in the troposphere. Theheat transports by ultra-long waves provide the energy during the whole evolution. It isconcluded that index cycle seems to be a nonlinear feedback process through the hydro-dynamical and thermodynamical interaction between the ultra-long waves and the zonal flows.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors have discussed the mechanical properties of the slurry and the resistance of a sphere moving with uniform velocity in a slurry, and compared their theoretical results with the experimental data of Northwest Institute of Hydrotechnical Research and Institute of Hydraulic Research, Yellow River Conservancy Commission.
Abstract: It is commonly considered that the mechanical properties of the slurry are different from that of ordinary Newtonian fluid, and can be described by that of Bingham fluid. Hence its shearing stress should be described by the formula of the shearing stress of Bingham fluid. But the author holds the contrary opinion and firmly believes that the slurry is a highly viscous fluid with very long relaxation time such as those of asphalt, glass, etc. In this article, we have discussed the mechanical properties of the slurry and the resistance of a sphere moving with uniform velocity in the slurry. In the process of discussion, we use Stokes solution of the viscous fluid passing around a sphere. When the sphere is in equilibrium under the action of gravitational force, the force of buoyancy and the resistance, we get the velocity of sedimentation. When the velocity of sedimentation is equal to zero, we get the relation between the yield stress of Bingham fluid and the diameter of the particles which will not sink. The theoretical results calculated are compared with the experimental data of Northwest Institute of Hydrotechnical Research and Institute of Hydraulic Research, Yellow River Conservancy Commission. They are congruous.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Vlasov kinetic theory of F E L employing waveguide laser cavity and helical pump is presented and a condition for eliminating the harmful effect and obtaining the maximum gain is derived and a suggestion employing hollow beams with small wall thickness is made.
Abstract: Vlasov kinetic theory of F E L employing waveguide laser cavity and helical pump is presented. Distinct from the former theories(1-5) this paper has taken into consideration theinfluence of the longitudinal magnetic field and the 3-d structure of the scattered field with the method of plasma kinetic theory. The spatial growth rate formula for the case of magnetic resonance is derived. The results show that the 3-d structure of the field has harmful influence on gain and would even cancel the instability altogether under certain conditions. A condition for eliminating the harmful effect and obtaining the maximum gain is derived and a suggestion employing hollow beams with small wall thickness is made. This theory is a generalization of that by P. Sprangle and R. A. Smith(5) in consideration of the longitudinal field and the 3-d structure of the scattered field.
