TL;DR: To assess the value of different admission tests in predicting the outcome of small‐for‐gestational age (SGA) fetuses with normal Doppler waveforms in the umbilical artery, a large number of these tests are administered at different stages of pregnancy.
Abstract: Objective To assess the value of different admission tests in predicting the outcome of small-for-gestational age (SGA) fetuses with normal Doppler waveforms in the umbilical artery. Methods Criteria for admission into this retrospective study included: singleton pregnancy with a birth weight < 10th centile; absence of severe maternal complications; no evidence of fetal anomalies on the sonogram; normal umbilical artery Doppler; and availability of complete follow-up. At the first antenatal sonogram classifying the fetus as SGA, Doppler analysis of the uterine and middle cerebral arteries was performed and amniotic fluid volume was assessed. Outcome variables included adverse perinatal outcome (perinatal death, severe morbidity) and emergency Cesarean section for fetal distress. Results Two hundred and thirty-one pregnancies were included in the study. The mean ± standard deriation birth weight and gestational age at delivery were 2222 ± 502 g and 37.3 ± 2.9 weeks, respectively. In 37 cases (16%), an emergency Cesarean section was performed. There was one intrauterine death and three fetuses delivered by emergency Cesarean section developed severe morbidity. Logistic regression demonstrated that abnormal velocimetry of the uterine arteries and fetal middle cerebral artery were independently correlated with the occurrence of Cesarean section. Conclusions SGA fetuses with normal umbilical artery Doppler waveforms and abnormal uterine arteries and fetal middle cerebral artery waveforms have an increased risk of developing distress and being delivered by emergency Cesarean section. Particularly when both uterine and fetal cerebral waveforms are altered at the same time, the risk is exceedingly high (86%) and delivery as soon as fetal maturity is achieved seems advisable. On the other hand, when both vessels have normal waveforms, the chances of fetal distress are small (4%) and expectant management is the most reasonable choice.

TL;DR: Design guidelines for wearable haptics are introduced and a novel 3-DoF wearable haptic interface able to apply force vectors directly to the fingertip is presented, able to exert up to 1.5 N.
Abstract: Wearability will significantly increase the use of haptics in everyday life, as has already happened for audio and video technologies. The literature on wearable haptics is mainly focused on vibrotactile stimulation, and only recently, wearable devices conveying richer stimuli, like force vectors, have been proposed. This paper introduces design guidelines for wearable haptics and presents a novel 3-DoF wearable haptic interface able to apply force vectors directly to the fingertip. It consists of two platforms: a static one, placed on the back of the finger, and a mobile one, responsible for applying forces at the finger pad. The structure of the device resembles that of parallel robots, where the fingertip is placed in between the static and the moving platforms. This work presents the design of the wearable display, along with the quasi-static modeling of the relationship between the applied forces and the platform's orientation and displacement. The device can exert up to 1.5 N, with a maximum platform inclination of 30 degree. To validate the device and verify its effectiveness, a curvature discrimination experiment was carried out: employing the wearable device together with a popular haptic interface improved the performance with respect of employing the haptic interface alone.

TL;DR: In this paper, a search for a heavy Higgs boson in the H to WW and H to ZZ decay channels is reported, based upon proton-proton collision data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 5.1 inverse femtobarns at sqrt(s)=7 TeV and up to 19.7 inverse femto-bars at square root of 8 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC.
Abstract: A search for a heavy Higgs boson in the H to WW and H to ZZ decay channels is reported. The search is based upon proton-proton collision data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 5.1 inverse femtobarns at sqrt(s)=7 TeV and up to 19.7 inverse femtobarns at sqrt(s)=8 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. Several final states of the H to WW and H to ZZ decays are analyzed. The combined upper limit at the 95% confidence level on the product of the cross section and branching fraction exclude a Higgs boson with standard model-like couplings and decays in the range 145 < m[H] < 1000 GeV. We also interpret the results in the context of an electroweak singlet extension of the standard model.

TL;DR: Two cases are presented, studied through in vivo confocal microscopy, with stage III keratoconus that developed stromal haze after the cross‐linking treatment.
Abstract: The technique of corneal collagen cross-linking consists of photopolymerization of stromal fibres by the combined action of a photosensitizing substance (riboflavin or vitamin B2) and ultraviolet light from a solid state UVA source. Photopolymerization increases the rigidity of corneal collagen and its resistance to keratectasia. In this report we present two cases, studied through in vivo confocal microscopy, with stage III keratoconus that developed stromal haze after the cross-linking treatment.
