TL;DR: The optimal solution, provided for optimal scheduling of MG, prevents the MG from being exposed to high operational cost considering the undesired deviation of market power prices from the forecasted amount.
Abstract: Combined heat and power (CHP) units are able to produce electrical energy and supply heat demand, simultaneously. This paper aims to solve the optimal power and heat generation scheduling problem of integrated heat and power microgrid (MG) considering uncertainty associated with price of selling/purchasing power from power market. The studied MG includes various types of CHP units, a thermal plant, a boiler, electrical energy storage system, and heat buffer tank. The capability of the electrical energy exchange between MG and power market is considered in this paper, where the MG is able to sell/buy power to/from the market. The objective is to obtain the optimal set points of MG components in order to minimize the operational cost of the MG considering power market price uncertainty, which is handled using the robust optimization (RO) method. It is applied to optimize the robustness of the decision-making strategy. As a result, the optimal solution, provided for optimal scheduling of MG, prevents the MG from being exposed to high operational cost considering the undesired deviation of market power prices from the forecasted amount. The proposed method is simulated and the obtained solutions are reported and analyzed for confirming the performance of the proposed RO framework.

TL;DR: A groundwater compatibility study was conducted by analyzing Electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), Chloride (Cl), Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), Sodium (Na), Potassium (K), Sulfate (SO4), Total hardness (TH), Bicarbonate (HCO3), pH, carbonate (CO3) and Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR) obtained from 39 wells in the time period from 2003 to 2014 as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Identification and management of the groundwater quality are of utmost importance for maintaining freshwater resources in arid and semi-arid areas, which is essential for sustainable development. Based on the quality of the groundwater in various areas, local policymakers and water resource managers can allocate the usage of resources for either drinking or agricultural purposes. This research aims to identify suitable areas of water pumping for drinking and agricultural harvest in the Tabriz aquifer, located in East Azerbaijan province, northwest Iran. A groundwater compatibility study was conducted by analyzing Electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), Chloride (Cl), Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), Sodium (Na), Potassium (K), Sulfate (SO4), Total hardness (TH), Bicarbonate (HCO3), pH, carbonate (CO3), the and Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR) obtained from 39 wells in the time period from 2003 to 2014. The Water Quality Index (WQI) and irrigation water quality (IWQ) index are respectively utilized due to their high importance in identifying the quality of water resources for irrigation and drinking purposes. The WQI index zoning for drinking classified water as excellent, good, or poor. The study concludes that most drinking water harvested for urban and rural areas is ‘excellent water’ or ‘good water’. The IWQ index average for the study area is reported to be in the range of 25.9 to 34.55. The results further revealed that about 37 percent (296 km2) of groundwater has high compatibility, and 63 percent of the study area (495 km2) has average compatibility for agricultural purposes. The trend of IWQ and WQI indexes demonstrates that groundwater quality has been declining over time.

TL;DR: In this paper, Tabriz's urban water system is modeled using a system dynamics approach and the model is used to simulate conditions in the near future until 2020, where both inter-basin water transfer and demand management tools reduce the water shortage up to 45% in 2020 but water transfer is more effective.
Abstract: In this study, Tabriz's urban water system is modeled using a system dynamics approach The model is used to simulate conditions in the near future until 2020 The Tabriz SD model considers potential water supply resources (groundwater, imported fresh water, and treated wastewater), potential sources of demand for water resources (domestic, irrigation and industry uses) and management tools (wastewater reuse and recycling, inter-basin water transfer, water price and conservation tools) Domestic price is varied so its effect on the water shortage could be determined The model also analyses the effect of expanding the wastewater network on groundwater resources According to the study results, both inter-basin water transfer and demand management tools reduce the water shortage up to 45% in 2020 but water transfer is more effective The model has proven to be useful for Tabriz's water authorities, and its methodology is applicable to other cities, especially those in arid or semi-arid regions
