TL;DR: In this article, the biologic properties of adenosine 3,5'-monophosphate and its dibutyryl derivative are measured by these two parameters, and the results show that they are distinctly different.
Abstract: Adenosine 3',5'-monophosphate stimulated production of carbon dioxide and lipid from glucose, whereas its dibutyryl derivative inhibited this conversion. Addition of the dibutyryl derivative to the isolated fat cell further stimulated lipolysis induced by adrenocorticotropic hormone, whereas addition of adenosine 3',5'-monophosphate inhibited this lipolysis. Hence, measured by these two parameters, the biologic properties of adenosine 3',5'-monophosphate and its dibutyryl derivative are distinctly different.

TL;DR: The experiments reported in this paper were designed to explain the phenomenon that plasma Ep levels reach peak titers after 8 hours of hypoxia and then fall to barely detectable levels after 72 hours, suggesting that the initiation of increased erythropoiesis requires higher Ep levels than its maintenance during continued Hypoxia.

TL;DR: In this paper, the presence of virus-like intracellular inclusions in active lesions of systemic lupus erythematosus and dermatomyositis was investigated.
Abstract: Stimulated by the presence of virus-like intracellular inclusions in active lesions of systemic lupus erythematosus and dermatomyositis, virologic studies were carried out on inclusion-positive biopsies of involved tissues from several patients with active connective tissue diseases. Although infectious agents were not detected, the results are of interest in the context of continuing efforts to demonstrate possible infectious agents in these and other diseases.

TL;DR: Recovery in rats infected with Plasmodium berghei was due primarily to acquired immunity that is effective without phagocytic hyperactivity, indicating that recovery was due mainly to acquired Immunity without hyperactivity.

TL;DR: There is insufficient knowledge regarding the entire subject of vasospasm for correlation with human vessel reaction to injury, so the difficulty in producing a reliable model of Vasospasm secondary to recurrent subarachnoid hemorrhage from carotid puncture is shown.
Abstract: We have shown the difficulty in producing a reliable model of vasospasm secondary to recurrent subarachnoid hemorrhage from carotid puncture in a squirrel monkey. In this animal, mild systemic hypertension had little or no effect on the clinical status after hemorrhage. The consistent production of a saccular aneurysm on the intracranial arteries was an unexpected result of the arterial puncture and the interruption of the internal elastic membrane. At this time, there is insufficient knowledge regarding the entire subject of vasospasm for correlation with human vessel reaction to injury.

TL;DR: Resulting histoimmunity levels, as measured by accelerated rejection of secondary skin grafts and by agglutination of donor erythrocytes, were similar to those elicited by skin allografting.
Abstract: Single incisors or incisor fragments devoid of visible soft tissues were subcutaneously allografted between inbred mouse strains. Resulting histoimmunity levels, as measured by accelerated rejection of secondary skin grafts and by agglutination of donor erythrocytes, were similar to those elicited by skin allografting. Comparison of temporal morphologic responses with incisor allografts and isografts revealed few and inconsistent differences.

TL;DR: The 3H/14C ratios of 15α-hydroxyestriol indicate that 15 α-hydroxylation can occur prior to a 16α-Hydroxylated estradiol and is not prevented by the presence of a 16 α-Hydroxy group.
Abstract: A mixture of 4-14C-17β-estradiol and 6,7-3H-estriol was administered intravenously to a human anencephalic. Both isotopes were extensively metabolized as almost 100% of the estradiol and 75% of the estriol were converted to more polar substances. A large fraction of the radioactivity was in a form which could not be extracted from the urine following enzyme hydi-olysis. Characterization of the metabolites which were extractable following hydrolysis demonstrated the major metabolite of both isotopes to be 15α-hydroxy estriol. Thirty-four per cent of the 14C and 24% of the 3H were present in the form of this metabolite. This readily demonstrates the capacity of this anencephalic to 15α-hydroxylate estrogens. The 3H/14C ratios of 15α-hydroxyestriol indicate that 15α-hydroxylation can occur prior to a 16α-hydroxylation and is not prevented by the presence of a 16α-hydroxy group. Several other metabolites were also present. Of these, however, only estriol was of much significance. Approximately 8% of ...

TL;DR: Investigation of the biosynthesis of α-spinasterol and β-amyrin in Camellia sinensis found the 3 H/ 14 C ratio was found to be 2·44:5·00 rather than 3:5, which is consistent with an earlier study in Pisum sativum.

TL;DR: Within the keratinized cells from five different sources, the trilaminar plasma membranes were commonly found and have derived from the invaginated plasma membrane formed when the membrane-coating granules were discharged, or from infolded plasma membrane due to cellular dehydration and shrinkage.
Abstract: Within the keratinized cells from five different sources, the trilaminar plasma membranes were commonly found. They have derived from the invaginated plasma membrane formed when the membrane-coating granules were discharged, or from infolded plasma membrane due to cellular dehydration and shrinkage. The marginal band was not formed upon these intracellular plasma membranes.

TL;DR: The metabolites of 4- 14 C-estradiol-17β, administered intravenously, were identified and quantitated in samples of urine, bile, and liver from two male and two female newborn dogs, finding estrone to be the most important metabolite quantitatively.

TL;DR: An equation of a continuous curve having the general form of the cardiac output curve has been derived in a logical fashion and the area is reduced to area = y p x p W where W is determined from a table included in the text.
Abstract: An equation of a continuous curve having the general form of the cardiac output curve has been derived in a logical fashion. The resulting equation of this curve originating at the origin is y = y p (x/x p ) m exp (1 - (x/x p ) m ) where y and x are the vertical and horizontal components of the curve, y p and x p are the vertical and horizontal displacements of the curve at its peak, and m is a positive constant to be determined for each curve. This equation is integrated to determine the area under the curve it represents and appropriate substitutions are employed, with the result that the equation for the area is reduced to area = y p x p W where W is determined from a table included in the text.
