TL;DR: In this paper, a transparent superhydrophobic thin film with TiO2 photocatalyst was prepared by utilizing a sublimation material and subsequent coating of a (fluoroalkyl)silane.
Abstract: Transparent superhydrophobic thin films with TiO2 photocatalyst were prepared by utilizing a sublimation material and subsequent coating of a (fluoroalkyl)silane. The transparency of the films decreased with increasing TiO2 concentration, which was attributed to the size difference of the starting materials. The film with only 2 wt % TiO2 maintained higher contact angle than the film without TiO2 after 1800-h outdoor exposure, the accumulation of stain being avoided due to TiO2 photocatalysis. The films prepared in this study are the first ones that satisfy the requirements of transparency, superhydrophobicity, and long lifetime simultaneously.

TL;DR: The T2K experiment as discussed by the authors is a long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment whose main goal is to measure the last unknown lepton sector mixing angle by observing its appearance in a particle beam generated by the J-PARC accelerator.
Abstract: The T2K experiment is a long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment Its main goal is to measure the last unknown lepton sector mixing angle {\theta}_{13} by observing { u}_e appearance in a { u}_{\mu} beam It also aims to make a precision measurement of the known oscillation parameters, {\Delta}m^{2}_{23} and sin^{2} 2{\theta}_{23}, via { u}_{\mu} disappearance studies Other goals of the experiment include various neutrino cross section measurements and sterile neutrino searches The experiment uses an intense proton beam generated by the J-PARC accelerator in Tokai, Japan, and is composed of a neutrino beamline, a near detector complex (ND280), and a far detector (Super-Kamiokande) located 295 km away from J-PARC This paper provides a comprehensive review of the instrumentation aspect of the T2K experiment and a summary of the vital information for each subsystem

TL;DR: L Langevin dynamics describing nonequilibirum steady states is studied, finding that the extended form of the second law which they proposed holds for transitions between steady states and that the Shannon entropy difference is related to the excess heat produced in an infinitely slow operation.
Abstract: We study Langevin dynamics describing nonequilibirum steady states. Employing the phenomenological framework of steady-state thermodynamics constructed by Oono and Paniconi [Prog. Theor. Phys. Suppl. 130, 29 (1998)], we find that the extended form of the second law which they proposed holds for transitions between steady states and that the Shannon entropy difference is related to the excess heat produced in an infinitely slow operation. A generalized version of the Jarzynski work relation plays an important role in our theory.

TL;DR: A large-scale inactivation of the expressed genes in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans is reported, establishing a high-throughput "RNAi-by-soaking" methodology and identifying 24 genes that might play important roles in germline development.
