TL;DR: In this paper, a method for studying the dynamical properties of liquids by molecular dynamics simulation is described, based on the measurement of the response to a weak applied field of appropriate character.
Abstract: A method for studying the dynamical properties of liquids by molecular dynamics simulation is described. Its basis is the measurement of the response to a weak applied field of appropriate character. The explicit form of the mechanical perturbation is worked out in several cases, and details are given of the numerical techniques used in implementing the method.

TL;DR: In this paper, a general theory of inelastic atom-surface scattering in the eikonal approximation is presented, and the treatment follows the space and time correlation method of van Hove and Glauber which has been the basis of neutron scattering analysis in the past twenty-five years.
Abstract: A general theory of inelastic atom-surface scattering in the eikonal approximation is presented. The treatment follows (with the necessary changes) the space and time correlation method of van Hove and Glauber which has been the basis of neutron scattering analysis in the past twenty-five years. The differential scattering probability per unit solid angle and energy exchange is written in terms of the exponential of a phase correlation function Open image in new window . Single-phonon scattering is then obtained by expansion of the exponential and is shown to be related to the spectral density tensor of surface phonons. Correction factors are needed, however, that strongly enhance the effect of long-wave-length and low-frequency phonons. The opposite limit at which very many phonons are exchanged,i.e. the classical limit, is studied, and results in agreement with purely classical simulations are obtained.

TL;DR: In this paper, the shape of the deformations occurring in nuclear collective modes is investigated by means of a microscopic approach using simplified nuclear potentials, and the structure of the velocity field and the transition density of low-lying modes is considerably different from the predictions of irrotational hydrodynamic models.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the gravitational field by means of ten vector fields defined on the ten-dimensional manifold of the local inertial reference frames, which correspond to ten operationally defined infinitesimal transformations.
Abstract: Following the formalism developed in a preceding paper, we describe the gravitational field by means of ten vector fields defined on the ten-dimensional manifoldL of the local inertial reference frames. These fields correspond to ten operationally defined infinitesimal transformations. The gravitational field is coupled with a set of scalar fields onL which describe particles with arbitrary spin. We discuss three different choices of the action from which the gravitational-field equations are derived. We obtain in this way two different theories which are equivalent to the Einstein-Cartan metric-torsion theory and a theory which is equivalent to a scalar-metric-torsion theory of the kind studied by Aldersley. In the absence of spin angular momentum, the last theory can be reduced to the scalar-metric theory developed by Brans and Dicke. We obtain in this way a geometric interpretation of the scalar field introduced by Dirac, Jordan, Brans and Dicke.

TL;DR: In this paper, 1,7-Bis(alkylthio)-substituted cycloheptatrienes with unhindered alkylthio groups were obtained from sodium thiolates and methoxy-or 1-(alkyl-thio)tropenylium salts in dichloromethane-ethanol at − 50°C.
Abstract: 4,5-Benzotropone and 1,2-ethanedithiol gave the expected dithioketal 8 with boron trifluoride etherate in methanol. In contrast, tropone, under similar conditions, gave the bicyclic 1,7-disubstituted cycloheptatrienes 2, 3 and 4 on reaction with, respectively, 1,2-ethanedithiol, 1,3-propanedithiol, and o-benzenedithiol. Related, monocyclic 1,7-difunctionalized cycloheptatrienes 10–13 and 15a-d were obtained from sodium thiolates and methoxy- or 1-(alkylthio)tropenylium salts in dichloromethane-ethanol at − 50°C. 1,7-Bis(alkylthio)-substituted cycloheptatrienes with unhindered alkylthio groups showed a rapid interconversion of the alkylthio groups at the C(1) and C(7) carbons (15a ⇄ 16).

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors study sequential decay models for hadronic jets characterized by ''mild'' nonscaling terms in the input decay probability and find long-range integrated correlations and an average multiplicity increasing logarithmically (or slightly faster) with energy, without marked violations of the limiting fragmentation in the one-particle inclusive distribution.
Abstract: We study sequential decay models for hadronic jets characterized by ''mild'' nonscaling terms in the input decay probability. The integral equations for the multiplicity moments are solved asymptotically be analytic methods, whereas the one-particle inclusive distribution corresponding to the same input is numerically evaluated as a function of the Feynman variable x and of the total available energy. With two competing input terms enhancing, respectively, hard- and soft-particle production in a rest frame of the jet, we find long-range integrated correlations and an average multiplicity increasing logarithmically (or slightly faster) with energy, without marked violations of the limiting fragmentation in the one-particle inclusive distribution.

Abstract: The interest in the study of the diamagnetic properties of the whole molecule and/or the magnetic moment of metal ions bound in relation to the structure and function of proteins is briefly outlined. The advantages in using high-resolution superconducting magnetometers are described together with the main features of the experimental technique and its foreseen advancement. A few examples, as representative of classes of problems, are discussed in more detail with reference to recent experimental studies.
