TL;DR: In this article, the magnetic field emerging in heavy-ion collisions has the magnitude of the order of $eB_y \sim 10^{-1} \cdot m_\pi^2$ for the SPS energy range and $b_y ǫ \sim m_ \pi^ 2$ for RHIC energies.
Abstract: Magnetic fields created in the noncentral heavy-ion collision are studied within a microscopic transport model, namely the Ultrarelativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics model (UrQMD). Simulations were carried out for different impact parameters within the SPS energy range (Elab = 10-158A GeV) and for highest energies accessible for RHIC. We show that the magnetic field emerging in heavy-ion collisions has the magnitude of the order of $eB_y \sim 10^{-1} \cdot m_\pi^2$ for the SPS energy range and $eB_y \sim m_\pi^2$ for the RHIC energies. The estimated value of the magnetic field strength for the LHC energy amounts to $eB_y\sim 15 \cdot m_\pi^2$.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported the observation of a compact binary coalescence involving a 222 −243 M ⊙ black hole and a compact object with a mass of 250 −267 M ⋆ (all measurements quoted at the 90% credible level) The gravitational-wave signal, GW190814, was observed during LIGO's and Virgo's third observing run on 2019 August 14 at 21:10:39 UTC and has a signal-to-noise ratio of 25 in the three-detector network.
Abstract: We report the observation of a compact binary coalescence involving a 222–243 M ⊙ black hole and a compact object with a mass of 250–267 M ⊙ (all measurements quoted at the 90% credible level) The gravitational-wave signal, GW190814, was observed during LIGO's and Virgo's third observing run on 2019 August 14 at 21:10:39 UTC and has a signal-to-noise ratio of 25 in the three-detector network The source was localized to 185 deg2 at a distance of ${241}_{-45}^{+41}$ Mpc; no electromagnetic counterpart has been confirmed to date The source has the most unequal mass ratio yet measured with gravitational waves, ${0112}_{-0009}^{+0008}$, and its secondary component is either the lightest black hole or the heaviest neutron star ever discovered in a double compact-object system The dimensionless spin of the primary black hole is tightly constrained to ≤007 Tests of general relativity reveal no measurable deviations from the theory, and its prediction of higher-multipole emission is confirmed at high confidence We estimate a merger rate density of 1–23 Gpc−3 yr−1 for the new class of binary coalescence sources that GW190814 represents Astrophysical models predict that binaries with mass ratios similar to this event can form through several channels, but are unlikely to have formed in globular clusters However, the combination of mass ratio, component masses, and the inferred merger rate for this event challenges all current models of the formation and mass distribution of compact-object binaries

TL;DR: It is shown that schizophrenia is polygenic and the utility of this resource of gene expression and its genetic regulation for mechanistic interpretations of genetic liability for brain diseases is highlighted.
Abstract: Over 100 genetic loci harbor schizophrenia associated variants, yet how these variants confer liability is uncertain. The CommonMind Consortium sequenced RNA from dorsolateral prefrontal cortex of schizophrenia cases (N = 258) and control subjects (N = 279), creating a resource of gene expression and its genetic regulation. Using this resource, ~20% of schizophrenia loci have variants that could contribute to altered gene expression and liability. In five loci, only a single gene was involved: FURIN, TSNARE1, CNTN4, CLCN3, or SNAP91. Altering expression of FURIN, TSNARE1, or CNTN4 changes neurodevelopment in zebrafish; knockdown of FURIN in human neural progenitor cells yields abnormal migration. Of 693 genes showing significant case/control differential expression, their fold changes are ≤ 1.33, and an independent cohort yields similar results. Gene co-expression implicates a network relevant for schizophrenia. Our findings show schizophrenia is polygenic and highlight the utility of this resource for mechanistic interpretations of genetic liability for brain diseases.

TL;DR: This work proposes a flexible architecture to integrate text- and image-based distributional information, and shows in a set of empirical tests that the integrated model is superior to the purely text-based approach, and it provides somewhat complementary semantic information with respect to the latter.
Abstract: Distributional semantic models derive computational representations of word meaning from the patterns of co-occurrence of words in text. Such models have been a success story of computational linguistics, being able to provide reliable estimates of semantic relatedness for the many semantic tasks requiring them. However, distributional models extract meaning information exclusively from text, which is an extremely impoverished basis compared to the rich perceptual sources that ground human semantic knowledge. We address the lack of perceptual grounding of distributional models by exploiting computer vision techniques that automatically identify discrete "visual words" in images, so that the distributional representation of a word can be extended to also encompass its co-occurrence with the visual words of images it is associated with. We propose a flexible architecture to integrate text- and image-based distributional information, and we show in a set of empirical tests that our integrated model is superior to the purely text-based approach, and it provides somewhat complementary semantic information with respect to the latter.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the thermodynamics of four-dimensional Kerr-Newman-AdS black holes both in the canonical and the grand-canonical Ensembles.
Abstract: We study the thermodynamics of four-dimensional Kerr-Newman-AdS black holes both in the canonical and the grand-canonical ensemble. The stability conditions are investigated, and the complete phase diagrams are obtained, which include the Hawking-Page phase transition in the grand-canonical ensemble. In the canonical case, one has a first-order transition between small and large black holes, which disappears for a sufficiently large electric charge or angular momentum. This disappearance corresponds to a critical point in the phase diagram. Via the AdS/CFT conjecture, the obtained phase structure is also relevant for the corresponding conformal field theory living in a rotating Einstein universe, in the presence of a global background U (1) current. An interesting limit arises when the black holes preserve some supersymmetry. These BPS black holes correspond to highly degenerate zero-temperature states in the dual CFT, which lives in an Einstein universe rotating with the speed of light.
