TL;DR: The mesenchymal layer placing between the chorion of ectodermal and the allantoic layer of entodermal origin develops from the somatic and splanchnic‐pleure of the parietal mesoderm.
Abstract: Summary Structural changes taking place in the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) of embryonated hen's eggs during incubation were followed up by histological, histochemical and electron microscopic methods. The allantoic sac surrounds the amnionic sac and also the yolk sac by the 7th to 11th day, respectively, and forms together with the chorion the CAM. The mesenchymal layer placing between the chorion of ectodermal and the allantoic layer of entodermal origin develops from the somatic and splanchnic-pleure of the parietal mesoderm. The CAM is composed of three different layers, i.e. chorionic epithelium, mesenchyme and allantoic epithelium. The chorion comprises 2 layers of cubical epithelial cells. In between the 2 layers capillaries and directly under the shell membrane vascular sinuses can be found. Blood circulating in the sinuses is separated from the air in the pores of the shell membrane by the adacent epithelial cell-projections of 0,2 μm thickness, the basal membrane (0.1 μm) and the sinus endothelial layer of 0.2 μm thickness. The mesenchymal cells are of star-like form. The allantioc epithelium is built of one layer of fusiform cells with oval-shaped or rod-like nuclei.

TL;DR: A 37-year-old Hungarian man exhibiting a swelling in his right testicle was treated for dirofilariosis, and a nodule attached to the spermatic cord was revealed, consisting of a granulomatous tissue around sections of a nematode.
Abstract: Orchiectomy was performed in a 37-year-old Hungarian man exhibiting a swelling in his right testicle. Histology revealed a nodule attached to the spermatic cord, consisting of a granulomatous tissue around sections of a nematode. The worm was identified asDirofilaria repens, an uncommon parasite in Hungary. As the patient had been abroad only in Italy where cases of dirofilariosis in dogs and humans are relatively frequent, it is assumed that the infection might have been acquired in that country 5 years earlier. This is the fifth case, published so far in the world, of such a localization in a human. The human cases of dirofilariosis reported in Hungary are reviewed.

TL;DR: Increases in HR and salivary cortisol concentrations in foals are not induced during parturition, but occur immediately after birth.
Abstract: Heart rate (HR), HR variability (HRV) and salivary cortisol concentrations were determined in foals (n = 13) during the perinatal phase and until 5 months of age. In the fetus, HR decreased from 77 ± 3 beats/min at 120 min before birth to 60 ± 1 beats/min at 5 min before birth (P <0.01). Within 30 min of birth, HR increased to 160 ± 9 beats/min (P <0.01). Salivary cortisol concentrations immediately after birth were 11.9 ± 3.6 ng/mL and within 2 h increased to a maximum of 52.5 ± 12.3 ng/mL (P <0.01). In conclusion, increases in HR and salivary cortisol concentrations in foals are not induced during parturition, but occur immediately after birth.

TL;DR: The isolates that lack the ability to produce both aflatoxin and cyclopiazonic acid are potential candidates for use in bicontrol studies.
Abstract: Thirty-two isolates of Aspergillus flavus were obtained from various sources in Hungary. All isolates were morphologically identified as A. flavus and three atypical variants were confirmed as A. flavus by comparing their DNA with an ex type culture of A. flavus. None of these isolates produced aflatoxins when tested on coconut agar or grown on rice medium and culture extracts examined by thin layer chromatography. Also, none of the isolates converted sterigmatocystin, O-methyl sterigmatocystin, norsolorinic acid, or sodium acetate to aflatoxin. However, 59% of the isolates produced cyclopiazonic acid based on thin layer chromatographic analysis of culture extracts. The isolates that lack the ability to produce both aflatoxin and cyclopiazonic acid are potential candidates for use in bicontrol studies.

TL;DR: Testicular function in stallions is apparently well protected against transiently elevated cortisol concentrations, and stallions can be transported over longer distances without negatively affecting their fertility.
