TL;DR: This paper is concerned with the two-mode-dependent robust control synthesis of networked control systems where random delays existing in both forward controller-to-actuator (C-A) and feedback sensor- to-controller (S-C) communication links are modeled as Markov chains.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the causal pattern of relationships among stress, satisfaction, commitment, and turnover intentions by employing a structural equations analysis approach and found that there are strong causal links between stress and satisfaction (higher stress leads to lower satisfaction) and between satisfaction and commitment (lower satisfaction leads to a lower commitment).
Abstract: This study addresses the confusion prevailing over the nature of the relationship between satisfaction and commitment in regard to employee turnover, and examines the causal pattern of relationships among stress, satisfaction, commitment, and turnover intentions by employing a structural equations analysis approach. The results indicate that there are strong causal links between stress and satisfaction (higher stress leads to lower satisfaction) and between satisfaction and commitment (lower satisfaction leads to lower commitment), and a reciprocal relationship between commitment and turnover intentions (lower commitment leads to greater intentions to quit which, in turn, further lowers commitment).

01 Jan 2008TL;DR: The basic reproduction number (R0) as discussed by the authors is a measure of the potential for disease spread in a population and is a threshold for stability of a disease-free equilibrium and is related to the peak and final size of an epidemic.
Abstract: The basic reproduction number, R0 is a measure of the potential for disease spread in a population. Mathematically, R0 is a threshold for stability of a disease-free equilibrium and is related to the peak and final size of an epidemic. The purpose of these notes is to give a precise definition and algorithm for obtaining R0 for a general compartmental ordinary differential equation model of disease transmission. Several examples of calculating R0 are included, and the epidemiological interpretation of this threshold parameter is connected to the local and global stability of a disease-free equilibrium.

01 Jan 2004TL;DR: Rethinking Scientific Literacy as discussed by the authors presents a new perspective on science learning as a tool for improving communities by focusing on case studies inside and outside of the classroom, and offers a new vision of scientific literacy that is inextricably linked with social responsibility and community development.
Abstract: Rethinking Scientific Literacy presents a new perspective on science learning as a tool for improving communities By focusing on case studies inside and outside of the classroom, the authors illuminate the relevance of science in students' everyday lives, offering a new vision of scientific literacy that is inextricably linked with social responsibility and community development The goal if not tote memorization of facts and theories, but a broader competency in scientific thinking and the ability to generate positive change
