TL;DR: It is suggested that the RhoA/ROK pathway is constitutively active in a number of organs under physiological conditions; its aberrations play major roles in several disease states, particularly impacting on Ca2+ sensitization of smooth muscle in hypertension and possibly asthma and on cancer neoangiogenesis and cancer progression.

TL;DR: Abnormalities of these regulatory mechanisms and isoform variations may contribute to diseases of smooth muscle, and the G-protein-coupled inhibition of protein phosphatase is also likely to be impor-tant in regulating non-muscle cell functions mediated by cytoplasmic myosin II.
Abstract: Smooth muscle cells in the walls of many organs are vital for most bodily functions, and their abnormalities contribute to a range of diseases. Although based on a sliding-filament mechanism similar to that of striated muscles, contraction of smooth muscle is regulated by pharmacomechanical as well as by electromechanical coupling mechanisms. Recent studies have revealed previously unrecognized contractile regulatory processes, such as G-protein-coupled inhibition of myosin light-chain phosphatase, regulation of myosin light-chain kinase by other kinases, and the functional effects of smooth muscle myosin isoforms. Abnormalities of these regulatory mechanisms and isoform variations may contribute to diseases of smooth muscle, and the G-protein-coupled inhibition of protein phosphatase is also likely to be impor-tant in regulating non-muscle cell functions mediated by cytoplasmic myosin II.

TL;DR: This article examined the antecedents of managerial trustworthy behavior and the challenge of initiating trust, and presented an exchange relationship framework that identifies organizational, relational, and individual factors that encourage or constrain managerial trustworthy behaviour.
Abstract: In many approaches to interpersonal and organizational trust, researchers focus on employees' perceptions that their managers are trustworthy. We turn the tables, however, and examine the antecedents of managerial trustworthy behavior and the challenge of initiating trust. Drawing on agency and social exchange theories, we present an exchange relationship framework that identifies organizational, relational, and individual factors that encourage or constrain managerial trustworthy behavior.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed whether complementary assets are required to gain cost advantage from implementing best practices, and found that capabilities for process innovation and implementation are complementary assets that moderate the relationship between best practices and cost advantage, a significant factor in determining firm performance.
Abstract: Research on the effects on firm performance of “best practices” of environmental management, which are supposed to enable firms to simultaneously protect the environment and reduce costs, has so far ignored the roles of existing firm resources and capabilities. Drawing on the resource-based view of the firm, this study analyzes whether complementary assets are required to gain cost advantage from implementing best practices. Results based on survey data from 88 chemical companies indicate that capabilities for process innovation and implementation are complementary assets that moderate the relationship between best practices and cost advantage, a significant factor in determining firm performance.

TL;DR: This work proposes an exact analysis, removing all remaining uncertainty, based on model checking, using abstract-interpretation results to prune down the model for scalability, and notably improves precision upon classical abstract interpretation at reasonable cost.
Abstract: We all know that the rate of improvement in microprocessor speed exceeds the rate of improvement in D R A M memory speed, each is improving exponentially, but the exponent for microprocessors is substantially larger than that for DRAMs. The difference between diverging exponentials also grows exponential ly; so, al though the disparity between processor and memory speed is already an issue, downst ream someplace it will be a much bigger one. How big and how soon? The answers to these questions are what the authors had failed to appreciate.
