TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the $\frac{1}{Z}$ expansion method to calculate the eigenvalues of the $2p3p^{3}P$ and $ 2p3d^{1,3}D$ states of the helium isoelectronic sequence.
Abstract: The $\frac{1}{Z}$ expansion method is used to calculate the eigenvalues of the $2p3p^{3}P$ and $2p3d^{1,3}D$ states of the helium isoelectronic sequence. The results are compared to variational calculations for neutral helium. Wavelengths are predicted for a number of transitions originating in doubly excited states of the heliumlike ions up to Fe xxv. The results for neutral helium are compared to recent beam-foil experiments and alternative line identifications are made. The predicted wavelength for the $2p3d^{3}D\ensuremath{-}2{p}^{2}^{3}P$ transition is 3014 \AA{}, in close agreement with the line observed by Berry et al. at 3012 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 2 \AA{}.

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental study was conducted on steel angle and tee struts to provide verification of the theoretical solutions for flexural, torsional-flexural, and plate buckling.
Abstract: An experimental study was conducted on steel angle and tee struts to provide verification of the theoretical solutions for flexural, torsional-flexural, and plate buckling. The effect of slenderness and width-thickness ratios was examined for single angle struts and double angle struts with separators, with hinged and fixed end conditions. The slenderness ratio was varied from approximately 21 to 89 and the overall width-thickness ratios ranged from 10.0 to 17.3. Tests on 27 tee sections with hinged ends were also conducted. Good agreement is shown between the experimental and theoretical results. It is suggested that the flexural, torsional-flexural and plate buckling stresses be computed as per the established rational buckling theory and the least value be taken as the critical stress for the given strut.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Wyckoff pedal response was controlled by neither the removal of the mixed-schedule stimulus nor the production of discriminative stimuli, and the results indicated a correlation between key-response rates and pedal-standing time.
Abstract: Pigeons were trained on a Wyckoff observing response procedure in which key responses were reinforced on a mixed schedule consisting of fixed-interval and extinction components. In Experiment 1, stepping on a pedal (a) converted the mixed schedule to a multiple schedule, (b) replaced the mixed-schedule stimulus with an unlit key (or, in different phases, a blackout), or (c) had no consequence. In Experiment 2, pedal standing removed the mixed-schedule stimulus that was physically similar to the multiple-schedule stimuli or one that was less similar. In Experiment 3, Wyckoff's differential and nondifferential discrimination procedure was repeated. The results of Experiments 1 and 2 showed that the Wyckoff pedal response was controlled by neither the removal of the mixed-schedule stimulus nor the production of discriminative stimuli. The results indicated a correlation between key-response rates and pedal-standing time. Experiment 3 showed that high response rates to mixed-schedule stimuli were correlated with little pedal-standing time while high key-response rates to multiple-schedule stimuli were correlated with considerable pedal standing time. The correlation between key-response rates and pedal-standing time was related to the physical arrangement between the key and pedal operanda.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors made an investigation of various factors which affect the flashover values across polyethylene and tetrafluoroethylene surfaces in vacuum, including sample conditioning under sustained direct and power frequency voltages, and the effect of surge voltage waveshape.
Abstract: Investigations were made of various factors which affect the flashover values across polyethylene and tetrafluoroethylene surfaces in vacuum. The factors studied included sample conditioning under sustained direct and power frequency voltages, and the effect of surge voltage waveshape. The breakdown values for a given voltage waveshape increased with the time of conditioning up to a maximum value which then remained constant within about 10%. Alternating voltages were found to be more effective in the conditioning process. The average breakdown voltage for each insulator decreased with increasing the surge front duration from 1 μs to about 150 μs and thereafter remained constant.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used delayed coincidences to determine the cross-section of the transition from the Hg state to the ground state induced by collisions with N 2 molecules.
Abstract: The cross section for the transition $6^{3}P_{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}6^{3}P_{1}$ in mercury, induced in collisions with ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ molecules, has been determined by the method of delayed coincidences. The Hg $^{3}P_{1}$ state was excited by pulses of 2537-\AA{} Hg resonance radiation and the decay of the long-lived 2537-\AA{} afterglow was studied in relation to ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ pressure. The resulting cross section ${Q}_{12}(^{3}P_{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}^{3}P_{1})=4.18\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$ ${\mathrm{\AA{}}}^{2}$ was found to be good agreement with the prediction of the principle of detailed balancing when compared with the cross section ${Q}_{21}(^{3}P_{1}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}^{3}P_{0})$. It was also found that, within the sensitivity of the method, collisions with ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ molecules do not quench $^{3}P_{1}$ or $^{3}P_{0}$ Hg atoms to the ground state.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Hylleraas-Scherr-Knight variation-perturbation method is applied to the calculation of oscillator strengths for the dominant transitions from the metastable $2p3p^{3}P$ and $ 2p3d^{1,3}D$ states of helium and the heliumlike ions.
Abstract: The Hylleraas-Scherr-Knight variation-perturbation method is applied to the calculation of oscillator strengths for the dominant transitions from the metastable $2p3p^{3}P$ and $2p3d^{1,3}D$ states of helium and the heliumlike ions. The results explain the absence of the $1s2p^{3}P\ensuremath{-}2p3p^{3}P$ transition of He i from recent beam-foil excitation spectra.

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that structural changes in the sensitizing and activating agents induced by ultraviolet light are connected with the inhibition of metal deposition, and that ultraviolet light has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the electroless deposition of Cu, Ni, and Co if applied after sensitization, and of Ni and Co after activation.
Abstract: Ultraviolet light has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the electroless deposition of Cu, Ni, and Co if applied after sensitization, and of Ni and Co after activation. Electron microscopic techniques are applied to investigate these phenomena. It is concluded that structural changes in the sensitizing and activating agents induced by the u.v. light are connected with the inhibition of metal deposition.

TL;DR: It is suggested that the present critical shortage of professional manpower in the area of psychodiagnostic testing and psychological consultation can be considerably reduced by the development and application of computerized test interpretation and report writing systems.
Abstract: It has been suggested that the present critical shortage of professional manpower in the area of psychodiagnostic testing and psychological consultation can be considerably reduced by the development and application of computerized test interpretation and report writing systems. The present study contrasted reports on a normal and an elevated profile with those written by a group of psychological technicians and by advanced graduate students in clinical psychology. All reports were rated by advanced graduate students in clinical psychology for style and content using a five-point Likert-style rating scale. (a) Computer reports on both profiles did not differ significantly regarding style from either of those of both groups of report writers, (b) the content of computer reports for the elevated profile was rated significantly higher than the content of individually written reports, (c) on the normal profile the computer report did not differ significantly from the technicians' reports, and (d) graduate stu...

TL;DR: The inheritance of an albumin variant uncovered in a single sample of mice appears to be under control of an allele located at an autosomal locus and rather restricted in geographic distribution.
Abstract: In spite of extensive electrophoretic studies of numerous samples of North American house mouse (Mus musculus) populations and of a variety of inbred strains of this species, no albumin variants have as yet been reported (Petras et aI., 1969; Selander et al., 1969; Selander and Yang, 1969). The present report is concerned with the inheritance of an albumin variant uncovered in a single sample of mice. The albumin variant appears to be under control of an allele located at an autosomal locus and rather restricted in geographic distribution.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the high-temperature creep behavior of sintered polycrystalline SrZrO3 containing 1.35 wt% Fe2O3 over the ranges 1160° to 1275°C, 780 to 3110 psi, 0.45 to 2.04 μm, and 0.0014 to 0.014, respectively.
Abstract: The high-temperature creep behavior of sintered polycrystalline SrZrO3 containing 1.35 wt% Fe2O3 was investigated as a function of temperature, stress, grain size, and strain level over the ranges 1160° to 1275°C, 780 to 3110 psi, 0.45 to 2.04 μm, and 0.0014 to 0.014, respectively. A constant-load 4-point (pure bending) method was used to load the specimens. The creep rate is time-dependent, decreasing exponentially with strain, i.e. , where the decay constant (β=118, measured at the 1560 psi stress level over the strain range 0.0014 to 0.014) is independent of temperature and grain size. No significant grain growth occurred during creep. The activation energy of 169±10 kcal/mol obtained for creep is relatively independent of temperature, stress, grain size, and strain level over the ranges investigated. The creep rate is directly proportional to the cube of the stress and the reciprocal of the grain size; this result is consistent with nonviscous creep theories based on dislocation generation and climb as the rate-controlling deformation mechanism.

TL;DR: In this article, a conformal mapping solution for irrotational gravity-free flow is modified to determine an expression for the drag on continuous and dentated sills, where the effect of gravity is partially accounted for by the inclusion of the upstream hydrostatic force in the momentum equations.
Abstract: A conformal mapping solution for irrotational gravity-free flow is modified to determine an expression for the drag on continuous and dentated sills. The effect of gravity is partially accounted for by the inclusion of the upstream hydrostatic force in the momentum equations. For the dentated sill case, continuity, energy and momentum relationships were used to divide the total flow into two portions, i.e., one passing between the baffles and another passing over the baffles. Two-dimensional techniques were then applied to determine the baffle drag coefficient. Good agreement was found between experimental and theoretical drag coefficients for both the continuous and dentated sills for (jet height)/(baffle height) 1.4.
