TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered perfect fluid spatially homogeneous cosmological models and studied generalizations which lead to new classes of exact solutions of Blanchi type VIII.
Abstract: We consider perfect fluid spatially homogeneous cosmological models. Starting with a new exact solution of Blanchi type VIII, we study generalizations which lead to new classes of exact solutions. These new solutions are discussed and classified in several ways. In the original type VIII solution, the ratio of matter shear to expansion is constant, and we present a theorem which delimits those space-times for which this condition holds.

TL;DR: The mitochondrial DNAs of house mouse, Mus musculus in twenty-five different laboratory strains showed identical cleavage patterns on digestion with nine different restriction endonucleases, suggesting that the genetic background of laboratory mice is mainly derived from M. m.
Abstract: The mitochondrial DNAs of house mouse, Mus musculus in twenty-five different laboratory strains showed identical cleavage patterns on digestion with nine different restriction endonucleases. The cleavage patterns were identical to those of Canadian wild mice, M. m. domesticus but clearly different from the patterns of three Asian subspecies, M. m. bactrianus, M. m. castaneus and M. m. molossinus. Based on comparison of the cleavage maps of the four subspecies, the time of divergence between M. m. domesticus and three Asian subspecies was estimated to be 1-2.5×106 years. These results suggest that the genetic background of laboratory mice is mainly derived from M. m. domesticus.

Abstract: n important concept underlying educational practic and philosophy is that of readiness. Following the pioneering work of child development researchers, particularly Gesell in the 1940s, educators have accepted the notion that a child will not be successful in learning a concept or skill until he has reached a requisite stage of cognitive development i.e., until he is ready. Children who encounter difficulties in school are often described as

TL;DR: The first studies specifically concerned with British shore platforms are less than twenty years old as discussed by the authors, and they were mainly concerned with determining whether platforms are the product of wave erosion or weathering processes.
Abstract: number of workers, is undoubtedly only a minute sample of the platforms which exist around the world. Until the early 1960s, the study of shore platforms was by default the almost exclusive domain of Australasian workers. This work, which still exerts a strong influence on the treatment of shore platforms in modern texts, was descriptive and generally concerned with determining whether platforms are the product of wave erosion or weathering processes. Genetic criteria usually included the degree of shelter provided by platform sites, and the elevation of the platforms in relation to specific tidal levels. It is ironic that in Britain the neglect of contemporary shore platforms occurred at a time when great importance was attached to the identification and interpretation of their ’raised’ counterparts. The first studies specifically concerned with British shore platforms are less than twenty years old. Recent work has been particularly concerned with:

TL;DR: In this article, a method to calculate the uniform field breakdown gradients for SF6-N2, SF6 air and SF6 CO2 mixtures is discussed and compared with experimentally measured values using plane-plane electrode configuration and direct applied voltages.
Abstract: A method to calculate the uniform field breakdown gradients for SF6-N2, SF6-air and SF6-CO2 mixtures is discussed. Calculated values of the breakdown gradients in these mixtures are compared with experimentally measured values using plane-plane electrode configuration and direct applied voltages. The results show a reasonably good degree of agreement between the calculated and the measured values.

TL;DR: In this article, a field study was conducted in which the helping behavior of 440 adults was measured under hot, comfortable, or cold temperatures, and no support was found for the hypothesis that hot and cold temperature inhibit the display of helping behavior.
Abstract: A field study was conducted in which the helping behavior of 440 adults was measured under hot, comfortable, or cold temperatures. A subject was given an opportunity to help an experimenter by (1) answering a questionnaire, (2) picking up dropped groceries, (3) looking for a lost contact lens, or (4) picking up a dropped book while the experimenter walked on crutches. No support was found for the hypothesis that hot and cold temperature inhibit the display of helping behavior.

TL;DR: In this paper, a non-linear regression model was proposed to compare favorably with the Herschel-Bulkley equation for the analysis of the viscosity of banana puree.
Abstract: Viscosity data for honey, corn oil, mayonnaise, yogourt, blood and banana puree have been analyzed using two Theological models: the Herschel-Bulkley model and a proposed model. The proposed model contains three parameters: a yield stress, a parameter having the units of time and a parameter having the units of viscosity. The model parameters were obtained by non-linear regression and the proposed model was shown to compare favorably with the Herschel-Bulkley equation. An Arrhenius-type of correlation could be verified between the viscosity of banana puree and the inverse of the temperature. Also, the time parameter (t1) of the proposed model could be correlated with the temperature and the parameter η1. It is asserted that the proposed model should replace advantageously the commonly used Casson expression.

TL;DR: Strong linkage disequilibrium was observed between the allelic variants at two leucine aminopeptidase loci in certain populations, suggesting that the loci are tightly linked and that populations of D. carinata are founded from few individuals.
Abstract: Fifteen populations of the cladoceran crustacean, Daphnia carinata, were examined for allozyme variation at sixteen gene loci. Individuals of this cyclic parthenogen were heterozygous at only 2.1 per cent of their loci. Large differences in gene frequencies existed among the populations. Within populations genotypic frequencies were in good agreement with Hardy-Weinberg expectations, and remained stable during annual cycles of population growth. Strong linkage disequilibrium was observed between the allelic variants at two leucine aminopeptidase loci in certain populations, suggesting that the loci are tightly linked and that populations of D. carinata are founded from few individuals.

TL;DR: In this article, a simple transformation which enables the use of product method in place of ratio method was examined, and the optimum situation in the minimum mse sense and allowable departures from this optimum were indicated.
Abstract: This paper examines a simple transformation which enables the use of product method in place of ratio method. The convenience with the former, proposed by Murthy [3], is that expressions for bias and mean square error (mse) can be exactly evaluated. The optimum situation in the minimum mse sense and allowable departures from this optimum are indicated. The procedure requires a good guess of a certain parameter, which does not seem very restrictive for practice. Two methods for dealing with the bias of the estimator are mentioned. An extension to use multiauxiliary information is outlined.

TL;DR: The oxygen isotope ratios for 127 rocks and coexisting minerals from Paleozoic granitoids and clastic metasedimentary rocks of southwestern Nova Scotia have been measured as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The oxygen isotope ratios for 127 rocks and coexisting minerals from Paleozoic granitoids and clastic metasedimentary rocks of southwestern Nova Scotia have been measured. The whole-rock δ18O values for samples of the South Mountain batholith range from 10.1–12.0‰.But discrete granitoid plutons, located to the south of the South Mountain batholith, have lower δ18O values (7.8–10.4‰). Coexisting minerals from the Nova Scotia granitoids are near isotopic equilibrium, indicating that the whole-rock δ18O values primarily reflect the δ18O of the magma, rather than secondary alteration processes. The Meguma Group clastic metasedimentary rocks that host the Nova Scotia granitoids range in δ18O from 10.1–12.9‰. These clastic metasedimentary rocks show no systematic geographic variation in δ18O. The greenschist facies Meguma Group rocks that host the South Mountain batholith have similar δ18O values to the amphibolite facies equivalents located about the southern discrete plutons. Large scale isotopic exchange bet...

TL;DR: The microprocessor implementation is shown to handle a number theoretic transform of 840 complex samples and the lookup table approach offers greater flexibility in the choice of dynamic range.
Abstract: This paper discusses the implementation of number theoretic transforms defined in complex residue rings. A selection of transform parameters for lookup table and microprocessor realizations are discussed. When the length of the convolution is moderate, the lookup table approach offers greater flexibility in the choice of dynamic range. The microprocessor implementation is shown to handle a number theoretic transform of 840 complex samples.

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental study produced surface profiles, bed pressure and length characteristics for the submerged radial jump in a 1.0m long stilling basin with a total divergence angle of 13.5? located downstream a sluice gate.
Abstract: A slight flaring of the side walls of the stilling basin can be advantageous in reducing the exit velocities. The hydraulic jump in such a stilling basin is referred to as a radial hydraulic jump. When the sluice gates discharge directly to the stilling basin, a submerged radial hydraulic jump will probably occur. An experimental study produced surface profiles, bed pressure and length characteristics for the submerged radial jump. A fourth-degree polynomial was used to describe the surface profile. The submerged radial jump lengths were found to be from 50% to 70% of the corresponding submerged rectangular jump lengths. Improved energy dissipation is also characteristic of the radial jumps. The model consisted of a 1.0-m long stilling basin with a total divergence angle of 13.5? located downstream a sluice gate. A theoretical equation is proposed to describe the relationship among: gate submergence, exit depth, initial depth, initial Froude number and basin divergence.

TL;DR: In this paper, the spin transfer mechanism is primarily the polarization mechanism in the first half of the rare earth series but that the covalent mechanism becomes predominant in the second half of series.
Abstract: $^{19}\mathrm{F}$ NMR at 46.6 MHz has been studied for single crystals of Ca${\mathrm{F}}_{2}$ doped with Nd${\mathrm{F}}_{3}$, Dy${\mathrm{F}}_{3}$, Ho${\mathrm{F}}_{3}$, and Tm${\mathrm{F}}_{3}$ for doping concentrations of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 mol%. $^{19}\mathrm{F}$ NMR at 84.67 MHz has been done for crystals doped with Nd${\mathrm{F}}_{3}$ and Eu${\mathrm{F}}_{3}$. Data on the main satellite lines, due to lattice fluorides having one nearest-neighbor rare-earth ion, show that the anisotropic portion of the NMR shift is entirely due to the direct dipolar interaction for all ions except ${\mathrm{Nd}}^{3+}$ and ${\mathrm{Eu}}^{3+}$. Analysis of the isotropic portion of the shift and the nondipolar portion of the anisotropic shift reveals that the spin-transfer mechanism is primarily the polarization mechanism in the first half of the rare-earth series but that the covalent mechanism becomes predominant in the second half of the series. Evidence for extensive clustering is found in all systems studied in the form of resonance lines that must arise from lattice fluorides with two nearest-neighbor rareearth ions. A possible form for the cluster is presented that will explain all the NMR results. ${T}_{1}$ measurements on the main $^{19}\mathrm{F}$ line were done as a function of orientation for crystals doped with Nd${\mathrm{F}}_{3}$ and Eu${\mathrm{F}}_{3}$. In both cases, large variations with orientation were found. It is shown that present theories will account for this variation.

TL;DR: In this article, the problems of the flow of a viscous fluid past a micropolar fluid sphere and the flow in a micro-fluid drop are discussed and the expressions for the stream functions, velocities, spins and the drag are obtained in each case and compared with the classical results.
Abstract: The problems of the flow of a viscous fluid past a micropolar fluid sphere and the flow of a micropolar fluid past a viscous fluid drop are discussed. The expressions for the stream functions, velocities, spins and the drag are obtained in each case and are compared with the classical (viscous fluid past a viscous fluid sphere) results. It is found that the viscosity ratios and the parameters, which arises in connection with the boundary condition, have significant effect upon the drag on the sphere in each case.

TL;DR: Results for absolute error showed that for constrained presentations, when the mode of presentation and themode of reproduction were the same, accuracy was greater than when the modes of Presentation and reproduction were different.
Abstract: The hypothesis was tested that, when the mode of presentation matches the mode of reproduction in memory for movement extent, there is less error in reproduction than when the modes are not matched. Female undergraduates (n = 24) were tested under active and passive criterion movements presented either under preselected or constrained conditions. All subjects underwent 36 trials involving the combination of three retention conditions (immediate, 20-sec unfilled, and 20-sec filled) and two reproduction conditions (active and passive). Results for absolute error showed that for constrained presentations, when the mode of presentation and the mode of reproduction were the same, accuracy was greater than when the modes of presentation and reproduction were different.

TL;DR: The assumption that legislators' images of their jobs are products of both pre-incumbency and incumbency experiences is widely shared by students of legislative behaviour as discussed by the authors.
