Abstract: Dyadic Green's functions are presented for an anisotropic surface conductivity model of biased graphene. The graphene surface can be biased using either a perpendicular static electric field, or by a static magnetic field via the Hall effect. The graphene is represented by an infinitesimally-thin, two-sided, non-local anisotropic conductivity surface, and the field is obtained in terms of Sommerfeld integrals. The role of spatial dispersion is accessed, and the effect of various static bias fields on electromagnetic field behavior is examined. It is shown that by varying the bias one can exert significant control over graphene's electromagnetic propagation characteristics, including guided surface wave phenomena, which may be useful for future electronic and photonic device applications.

Abstract: This study investigates the hypothesis that the advantage corporate social performance (CSP) yields in attracting human resources depends on the degree of job choice possessed by the job seeking population. Results indicate that organizational CSP is positively related to employer attractiveness for job seekers with high levels of job choice but not related for populations with low levels suggesting advantages to firms with high levels of CSP in the ability to attract the most qualified employees.

Abstract: Background—Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a heterogeneous clinical syndrome in need of improved phenotypic classification. We sought to evaluate whether unbiased clustering analysis using dense phenotypic data (phenomapping) could identify phenotypically distinct HFpEF categories. Methods and Results—We prospectively studied 397 patients with HFpEF and performed detailed clinical, laboratory, ECG, and echocardiographic phenotyping of the study participants. We used several statistical learning algorithms, including unbiased hierarchical cluster analysis of phenotypic data (67 continuous variables) and penalized model-based clustering, to define and characterize mutually exclusive groups making up a novel classification of HFpEF. Abstract: In 2008, a group of researchers publicly released profile data collected from the Facebook accounts of an entire cohort of college students from a US university. While good-faith attempts were made to hide the identity of the institution and protect the privacy of the data subjects, the source of the data was quickly identified, placing the privacy of the students at risk. Using this incident as a case study, this paper articulates a set of ethical concerns that must be addressed before embarking on future research in social networking sites, including the nature of consent, properly identifying and respecting expectations of privacy on social network sites, strategies for data anonymization prior to public release, and the relative expertise of institutional review boards when confronted with research projects based on data gleaned from social media.

Abstract: CO2 photoreduction with water vapor has been studied on three TiO2 nanocrystal polymorphs (anatase, rutile, and brookite) that were engineered with defect-free and oxygen-deficient surfaces, respectively. It was demonstrated that helium pretreatment of the as-prepared TiO2 at a moderate temperature resulted in the creation of surface oxygen vacancies (VO) and Ti3+ sites on anatase and brookite but not on rutile. The production of CO and CH4 from CO2 photoreduction was remarkably enhanced on defective anatase and brookite TiO2 (up to 10-fold enhancement) as compared to the defect-free surfaces. Defective brookite was photocatalytically more active than anatase and rutile, probably because of a lower formation energy of VO on brookite. The results from in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) analyses suggested that (1) defect-free TiO2 was not active for CO2 photoreduction since no CO2– is generated, and (2) CO2 photoreduction to CO possibly underwent different reaction ...
