TL;DR: The results showed that the ability to stabilize the pelvis against resistance is decreased during pregnancy and at least 8 weeks postbirth, abdominal muscle exercises should be chosen with care.
Abstract: Background and Purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate the abdominal muscle structural adaptations and functional capabilities during pregnancy and the postbirth period. Subjects. Six primigravid subjects, aged 28 to 33 years, participated in nine test sessions from 14 weeks of gestation to 8 weeks postbirth. Methods. At each test session, three-dimensional photography of abdominal skin markers was used to determine the gross morphology of a representative abdominal muscle, the rectus abdominis muscle. The functional capability of the abdominal muscle group was assessed on the ability of the muscle group to stabilize the pelvis against resistance. Results. Increases were found in rectus abdominis muscle separation width, length, and angles of insertion as pregnancy progressed. Reversal in rectus abdominis muscle separation was found by 4 weeks postbirth. The ability to stabilize the pelvis against resistance was shown to be decreased as pregnancy progressed and remained compromised postbirth. Decrements in abdominal muscle function paralleled in time the structural adaptations, as pregnancy progressed. Continued functional deficits were found in parallel with incomplete resolution of structural adaptations postbirth. Conclusion and Discussion. Abdominal muscle function is affected by structural adaptations that occur during pregnancy. Because our results showed that the ability to stabilize the pelvis against resistance is decreased during pregnancy and at least 8 weeks postbirth, abdominal muscle exercises should be chosen with care.

TL;DR: This critical review describes the preparation and properties of a relatively new class of chiral macromolecules, namely chiral conducting polymers, namely polypyrrole, polythiophene and polyaniline, which possess remarkable properties, combining not only chirality with electrical conductivity but also the ability to undergo facile redox and pH switching.
Abstract: This critical review describes the preparation and properties of a relatively new class of chiral macromolecules, namely chiral conducting polymers. It focuses in particular on examples based on polypyrrole, polythiophene and polyaniline. They possess remarkable properties, combining not only chirality with electrical conductivity but also the ability to undergo facile redox and pH switching. These unique properties have opened up a range of exciting new potential applications, including as chiral sensors, as novel stationary phases for chiral separations, and as chiral electrodes for electrochemical asymmetric synthesis (153 references).

TL;DR: A critical review of both experimental and computational studies of round turbulent jets is provided, beginning with the work of Tollmien (1926). as discussed by the authors traces the history, major advances, and various stages that the research community went through over the past 85-odd years, from statistical analyses through to the use of conditional sampling, proper orthogonal decomposition and structural eduction methods.

TL;DR: A compact, matrix-based most likely path (MLP) formalism is presented employing Bayesian statistics and a Gaussian approximation of MCS to predict the Monte Carlo tracks of 200 MeV protons in GEANT4 simulations.
Abstract: The limited spatial resolution in proton computed tomography (pCT) in comparison to x-ray CT is related to multiple Coulomb scattering (MCS) within the imaged object The current generation pCT design utilizes silicon detectors that measure the position and direction of individual protons prior to and post-traversing the patient to maximize the knowledge of the path of the proton within the imaged object For efficient reconstruction with the proposed pCT system, one needs to develop compact and flexible mathematical formalisms that model the effects of MCS as the proton traverses the imaged object In this article, a compact, matrix-based most likely path (MLP) formalism is presented employing Bayesian statistics and a Gaussian approximation of MCS Using GEANT4 simulations in a homogeneous 20 cm water cube, the MLP expression was found to be able to predict the Monte Carlo tracks of 200 MeV protons to within 06 mm on average when employing 3sigma cuts on the relative exit angle and exit energy These cuts were found to eliminate the majority of events not conforming to the Gaussian model of MCS used in the MLP derivation M riszwana Banu
