TL;DR: Rare-earth doping is identified as a general strategy for introducing local structural heterogeneity in order to enhance the piezoelectricity of relaxor ferroelectric crystals.
Abstract: High-performance piezoelectrics benefit transducers and sensors in a variety of electromechanical applications. The materials with the highest piezoelectric charge coefficients (d33) are relaxor-PbTiO3 crystals, which were discovered two decades ago. We successfully grew Sm-doped Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 (Sm-PMN-PT) single crystals with even higher d33 values ranging from 3400 to 4100 picocoulombs per newton, with variation below 20% over the as-grown crystal boule, exhibiting good property uniformity. We characterized the Sm-PMN-PT on the atomic scale with scanning transmission electron microscopy and made first-principles calculations to determine that the giant piezoelectric properties arise from the enhanced local structural heterogeneity introduced by Sm3+ dopants. Rare-earth doping is thus identified as a general strategy for introducing local structural heterogeneity in order to enhance the piezoelectricity of relaxor ferroelectric crystals.

TL;DR: Sodium-ion batteries have been considered as the most promising candidate for large-scale energy storage system owing to the economic efficiency resulting from abundant sodium resources, superior safety, and similar chemical properties to the commercial lithium-ion battery as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have been considered as the most promising candidate for large-scale energy storage system owing to the economic efficiency resulting from abundant sodium resources, superior safety, and similar chemical properties to the commercial lithium-ion battery Despite the long period of academic research, how to realize sodium-ion battery commercialization for market applications is still a great challenge Thus, from the perspective of future practical application, this review will identify the factors that are restricting commercialization, and evaluate the existing active materials and sodium-ion-based full-cell system The design and development trends that are needed for SIBs to meet the requirements of practical applications in large-scale energy storage will also be discussed in detail

TL;DR: In this paper, Boneh et al. address three important issues of a PEKS scheme, including refreshing keywords, removing secure channel, and processing multiple keywords, which have not been considered in Boneh and Di Crescenzo's paper.
Abstract: The public key encryption with keyword search (PEKS) scheme recently proposed by Boneh, Di Crescenzo, Ostrovsky, and Persiano enables one to search encrypted keywords without compromising the security of the original data. In this paper, we address three important issues of a PEKS scheme, “refreshing keywords”, “removing secure channel”, and “processing multiple keywords”, which have not been considered in Boneh et. al.’s paper. We argue that care must be taken when keywords are used frequently in the PEKS scheme as this situation might contradict the security of PEKS. We then point out the inefficiency of the original PEKS scheme due to the use of the secure channel. We resolve this problem by constructing an efficient PEKS scheme that removes secure channel. Finally, we propose a PEKS scheme that encrypts multiple keywords efficiently.
