TL;DR: The quantitative analysis by gas chromatography of monosaccharides present in glycoproteins and glycopeptides using methanolysis, followed by re-N-acetylation and trimethylsilylation gives rise to several peaks for each monosACcharide, which provide for the unambiguous interpretation of the gas chromatograms obtained in the application of this g.l.c.c-mass spectrometry method.
Abstract: The quantitative analysis by gas chromatography of monosaccharides present in glycoproteins and glycopeptides using methanolysis, followed by re-N-acetylation and trimethylsilylation, gives rise to several peaks for each monosaccharide. The identity of these peaks for xylose, fucose, mannose, galactose, glucose, N-acetylglucosamine, N-acetylgalactosamine and N-acetylneuraminic acid was established for alpha- and beta-methyl pyranosides and furanosides by combined g.l.c.-mass spectrometry and proton-magnetic-resonance spectroscopy. These data provide for the unambiguous interpretation of the gas chromatograms obtained in the application of this g.l.c. method, and supply basic information for the further application of mass spectrometry in this field.

TL;DR: Specific receptor binding of estradiol (E2) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) was studied in human myometrial tissue and in human mammary cancer tissue to find receptors were found for both E2 and DHT.
Abstract: Specific receptor binding of estradiol (E2) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) was studied in human myometrial tissue and in human mammary cancer tissue. The inhibition of binding for E2 and DHT by E2, testosterone (T), DHT, dehydroepiandosterone (DHEA), dehydroepiandrosteronesulfate (DHEA-S), androstenedione (A) and 5-androstene-3β,17β-diol (Adiol) was tested with the use of dextran-coated charcoal separation of bound and free E2, respectively, and DHT. The percentage of binding inhibition was calculated with reference to the inhibition obtained with nafoxidine in a molar concentration ratio of 1,000 for E2 binding, respectively, with cyproterone acetate in a molar concentration ratio of 10,000 for DHT binding. In 15 samples of myometrium tested, receptors were found for both E2 and DHT. From 19 samples of mammary carcinoma tissue one showed no binding activity, three samples did bind E2 only, five samples DHT only, and ten samples showed binding of both steroids. A 50% inhibition of E2 binding, in myometrial...

TL;DR: The analytical structure of the hydrodynamic frequencies for the sound, heat, and shear modes and of hydrodynamics equations for a monatomic fluid are discussed in this article.
Abstract: The analytic structure of the hydrodynamic frequenciesz(k) for the sound, heat, and shear modes and of the hydrodynamic equations for a monatomic fluid are discussed on the basis of the mode-mode coupling theory. It is shown that the hydrodynamic frequencies depend on the wave numberk, for smallk, asz(k) = ak + bk 2 + $$z(k) = ak + bk^2 + \sum olimits_{n = 1}^\infty {c_n k^{3 - 2^{ - n} } } $$ and that some of the correlation functions that appear in the Fourier-Laplace transforms of the hydrodynamic equations contain branch point singularities. The implications of these results for the derivation of linear hydrodynamic equations, such as the Burnett equations, and for the long-time behavior of time correlation functions are discussed.

Abstract: 1. Mytilus edulis L. accumulates VFA during anaerobiosis. 2. Propionic acid is formed in equal amounts as succinate (26 μmol g−1 dry weight), together with small amounts of acetate (2 μmol g−1 dry weight) during 72 h under N2. 3. Under aerobic conditions acetate is the only free VFA present in appreciable amounts (12 μmol g−1 dry weight). 4. About 8 μmol g−1 dry weight of esterified VFA are present in total lipid extracts. 5. No significant increase in esterification to glycerol-3-phosphate takes place during 72h of anoxia.

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that spontaneous symmetry treaking implies a finite cosmological term in the Einstein equation for gravity, and the present theories of weak and e.m. interactions disagree violently with the experimental limit on such a finite term unless an ad-hoc counter curvature is introduced.

TL;DR: This chapter presents several experiments that indicate that the central hypotensive effect of L-DOPA (L- 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanin) may be related to an increase of brain stem noradrenaline level, and investigates the cardiovascular effect of bilateral electrolytic brain stem lesions at the level of the obex in rats anesthetized with ether.
Abstract: Publisher Summary This chapter presents several experiments that indicate that the central hypotensive effect of L-DOPA (L- 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanin) may be related to an increase of brain stem noradrenaline level. Depletion of brain noradrenaline in neonate or adult rats by intraventricular administration of 6-hydroxydopamine did not affect blood pressure. The hypotensive effect of L-DOPA has also been shown in rats, dogs and cats. Inhibition of extracerebral decarboxylase activity to prevent the peripheral effects of dopamine and noradrenaline, which generate from L-DOPA, is required for the expression of the hypotensive effect of L-DOPA in the rat. A number of experiments were performed to investigate whether low levels of brain noradrenaline would lead to opposite effects. In addition, the chapter also studies the cardiovascular effect of bilateral electrolytic brain stem lesions at the level of the obex in rats anesthetized with ether. Blood pressure in the conscious rats was recorded from a permanent indwelling iliac cannula. Lesioning this area was followed by an acute and severe hypertension.

TL;DR: Kinetic data suggest, that the initial presence of more than a loo-fold molar excess of product hydroperoxide over enzyme is necessary to immediately attain the maximum reaction rate, and that, besides the effect of EPR, this could also affect the reaction rate of lipoxygenase-1.
