Abstract: A tool edge with a small nose radius can alleviate the regenerative chatter. In general, it is important for conventional cutting to use the smallest possible tool nose radius. However, a sharp tool shape has an adverse effect on tool strength and the instability of machining process still occurs. Previous researches have shown that vibration cutting has a higher cutting stability as compared with conventional cutting. In the present paper, the influence of tool nose radius on cutting characteristics including chatter vibration, cutting force and surface roughness is investigated by theory. It is found from the theoretical investigation that a steady vibration created by motion between the tool and the workpiece is still obtained even using a large nose radius in vibration cutting. This article presents a vibration cutting method using a large nose radius in order to solve chatter vibration and tool strength problem in hard-cutting. With a suitable nose radius size, experimental results show that a stable and a precise surface finish is achieved.

Abstract: Spatial challenges for the vehicular Internet of Things come from mobility, high density, sparse connectivity, and heterogeneity. In this article, we propose two techniques, namely decentralized moving edge and multi-tier multi-access edge clustering, to handle these challenges. The "vehicle as an edge" concept of the decentralized moving edge provides a more suitable solution to meet the throughput and latency performance requirements by conducting distributed communication, data caching, and computing tasks at vehicles. Multi-tier multi-access edge clustering generates different levels of clusters for more efficient integration of different types of access technologies including licensed/unlicensed long-range low-throughput communications and unlicensed short-range high-throughput communications. We employ fuzzy logic to jointly consider multiple inherently contradictory metrics and use Q-learning to achieve a self-evolving capability. Abstract: Brassinazole is the only known specific brassinosteroid (BR)-biosynthesis inhibitor, and it has been shown to be useful for elucidating the function of BRs. In the course of a structure-activity relationship study of brassinazole, we found a more specific BR-biosynthesis inhibitor, Brz2001. This new inhibitor induced similar morphological changes to those seen in brassinazole-treated plants, including Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh., Nicotiana tabacum L., and Lepidium sativum L. These changes included dwarfism with altered leaf morphology, including downward curling and dark-green color, and the changes were reversed by brassinolide. Although the structure of Brz2001 is similar to that of uniconazole, a gibberellin-biosynthesis inhibitor, Brz2001-treated plants showed almost no recovery with the addition of gibberellic acid (GA3). Comparison of the responses of both brassinazole- and Brz2001-treated cress to brassinolide and GA3 suggested that Brz2001 is a more specific BR-biosynthesis inhibitor than brassinazole. Unlike the results just described, Brz2001-treated rice did not show any morphological changes. This suggests that the roles of BRs in rice may be different from those in the dicotyledonous plants examined in this study. Brz2001 can be used to clarify the function of BRs in dicots as a complement to BR-deficient mutants, and to elucidate the different roles of BRs in monocots and dicots.
