26 Apr 1979TL;DR: In this article, a rotary vane, oil sealed mechanical vacuum pump casing is cooled by air drawn by a relatively low pressure and low speed laminar flow fan mounted on a motor shaft for the pump and positioned in a shroud between end plates for the motor and casing.
Abstract: An oil pool in a rotary vane, oil sealed mechanical vacuum pump casing is cooled by air drawn by a relatively low pressure and low speed laminar flow fan mounted on a motor shaft for the pump and positioned in a shroud between end plates for the motor and casing. The air pumped by the fan flows axially relative to the shaft through a horizotally extending slot at the bottom of the shroud and vertically extending slots on the sides of the shroud. The pumped air flows against vertically and horizontally extending fins respectively on the pump casing bottom and sides. The vertically extending fins at the bottom of the casing have bases slightly above the horizontal slot at the bottom of the housing so air flowing through that slot flows against the bases of the fins at a shallow angle. A vertical surface of the housing remote from the fan and the shroud has vertically extending fins that are aligned with the vertically extending fins on the bottom of the casing.

26 Feb 1973TL;DR: In this article, a phase comparator consisting of a three db four port microwave hybrid coupler having a pair of outputs, the outputs of which are rectified by microwave diodes and subtracted to produce the error signal.
Abstract: The frequency of a microwave source, such as a magnetron of klystron, is locked to the variable frequency of a resonant load. A sample of the microwave power incident on the load is derived from the magnetron and compared in a phase comparator with a sample of the microwave energy reflected from the resonant load to derive an error signal representative of the frequency departure of the frequency of the microwave source from the resonant frequency of the load. The error signal is utilized for driving a tuner for tuning the frequency of the microwave source to the frequency of the load. In a preferred embodiment the phase comparator comprises a three db four port microwave hybrid coupler having a pair of outputs, the outputs of which are rectified by microwave diodes and subtracted to produce the error signal. The length of the transmission path from the microwave source to the phase comparator circuit is made longer than the length of the transmission path from the microwave source to the load and back to the phase comparator circuit in order to skew the frequency discriminator output characteristic of the phase comparator in order to eliminate ambiguities in the sense of the error signal at frequencies far removed from the resonant frequency of the load.

25 Oct 1996TL;DR: In this paper, a fixed member and a rotatably supported and eccentrically mounted disk are inserted into a corresponding one of a pair of crescent-shaped indentations formed on a panel of a couch top.
Abstract: An accessory has a fixed member and a rotatably supported and eccentrically mounted disk which are each inserted into a corresponding one of a pair of crescent-shaped indentations formed on a panel of a couch top. As the disk is rotated, its center moves towards the fixed member, causing the disk to press against the inner wall of the indentation and locking the accessory to the panel securely and repeatably.

12 Apr 1982TL;DR: In this article, a step-up, step-down transformer is used to adjust the voltage of the regulated AC output line to a desired level by sampling the unregulated AC line input and comparing it with a scaled representation of the desired line voltage.
Abstract: A feed forward AC voltage regulator utilizes a step-up, step-down transformer to apply adjustment voltages to an unregulated AC line. Analog circuitry periodically samples the unregulated AC line input and compares it with a scaled representation of the desired line voltage. Digital circuitry converts the information from the analog sampling and comparison to an instruction command which activates an appropriate solid state switch associated with a tap on a multitap transformer connected to the regulated AC output line. The taps are successively located on the multitap transformer to provide selectable adjustment voltages of various values. The switched-in adjustment voltage is provided the proper polarity and applied to the primary of the step-up, step-down transformer, thereby applying to the secondary the adjustment voltage needed to move the regulated AC output line to the desired level.

18 May 1981TL;DR: In this article, a resistor voltage divider has N terminals respectively connected to the N electrodes and resistances of the divider between adjacent ones of the electrodes have the same value, and a shorting bar is dimensioned and positioned to selectively engage terminals N, (N-1... 1.
Abstract: An ion beam implanter includes a high energy accelerator having N electrodes equally spaced along the path of an ion beam, where N is an integer greater than 2. A resistor voltage divider has N terminals respectively connected to the N electrodes. Resistances of the divider between adjacent ones of the electrodes have the same value. A variable DC voltage source applies a high positive voltage to terminal N of the divider, while the first terminal of the divider is grounded. Terminal N is connected to an electrode that is upstream of the electrode connected to the first terminal. A shorting bar is dimensioned and positioned to selectively engage terminals N, (N-1 . . . 1. Drive means stepwise moves the shorting bar so an end portion of the bar sequentially engages terminals N, (N-1) . . . 1 in order. The remainder of the bar engages terminals N, (N-1) . . . (a+1) while the bar end portion engages terminal a, where a is selectively every integer from 1 to N. The stepwise movement of the shorting bar is synchronized with variations of the DC source to maintain a substantially constant voltage gradient along the length of the unshorted electrodes despite variations in energy applied to the beam by the accelerator. The drive means includes a pneumatically activated motor having rods with differences in length between fully extended and fully retracted positions thereof in binary relationship with the distance between adjacent ones of the N electrodes.
