TL;DR: When antacid medication impairs the gastric digestion, IgE synthesis toward novel dietary proteins is promoted, leading to food allergy.
Abstract: Background Digestible proteins were supposed to be irrelevant for oral sensitization and induction of food allergy. Approximately 10% of the adult population uses antacids for the treatment of dyspeptic disorders, drugs that hinder peptic digestion. In these patients, proteins that are normally degradable might act as food allergens. Objective We aimed to study the influence of antacid intake on the allergenicity of dietary proteins, taking sturgeon caviar and parvalbumin, the major fish allergen, as examples. Methods Caviar proteins and recombinant parvalbumin from carp, rCyp c 1, were applied for intragastric feedings with or without the antacids sucralfate, ranitidine or omeprazole, using a Balb/c mouse model. Results Both caviar proteins and parvalbumin were rapidly degraded in an in vitro digestion assay at pH 2.0, but not at pH 5.0, imitating the effect of antacids. The groups fed with caviar in combination with ranitidine hydrochloride intramuscularly or sucralfate orally had significant levels of caviar-specific IgE antibodies ( P P Conclusions When antacid medication impairs the gastric digestion, IgE synthesis toward novel dietary proteins is promoted, leading to food allergy.

TL;DR: This study reviews existing error presentations and proposes the combined investigation of the SNR (expressed in logarithmic units), the unscaled error variances, and the soil moisture sensitivities of the data sets as an optimal strategy for the evaluation of remotely-sensed soil moisture data sets.

TL;DR: The influence of the Coulomb focusing, in combination with multiple returns, focuses parts of the electron wave function, increasing the efficiency of such intense field processes as multiphoton double ionization.
Abstract: In the intense field (long-wavelength) limit, the oscillating motion of an electron wave packet leads to multiple passes by the scattering Coulomb center. The influence of the Coulomb focusing, in combination with multiple returns, focuses parts of the electron wave function, increasing the efficiency of such intense field processes as multiphoton double ionization. Our calculations show enhancement by more than an order of magnitude for multiphoton double ionization of He at 0.8 \ensuremath{\mu}m.

TL;DR: This paper provides a unifying framework, discussion, and performance evaluation of FBMC and compares it with OFDM-based schemes and derives closed-form solutions for the signal-to-interference ratio in doubly-selective channels and shows that in many practical cases, one-tap equalizers are sufficient.
Abstract: Future wireless systems will be characterized by a large range of possible uses cases. This requires a flexible allocation of the available time-frequency resources, which is difficult in conventional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Thus, modifications of OFDM, such as windowing or filtering, become necessary. Alternatively, we can employ a different modulation scheme, such as filter bank multi-carrier (FBMC). In this paper, we provide a unifying framework, discussion, and performance evaluation of FBMC and compare it with OFDM-based schemes. Our investigations are not only based on simulations, but are substantiated by real-world testbed measurements and trials, where we show that multiple antennas and channel estimation, two of the main challenges associated with FBMC, can be efficiently dealt with. In addition, we derive closed-form solutions for the signal-to-interference ratio in doubly-selective channels and show that in many practical cases, one-tap equalizers are sufficient. A downloadable MATLAB code supports reproducibility of our results.
