TL;DR: In this paper, a regioselective [3+2] cyclization reaction between 2-arylidene-1,3-indanedione and ethyl 2-3-butadienoate catalysed by triphenylphosphine has been demonstrated to synthesize functionalised spirocyclic cyclopentenes.
Abstract: A regioselective [3+2] cyclisation reaction between 2-arylidene-1,3-indanedione and ethyl 2,3-butadienoate catalysed by triphenylphosphine has been demonstrated to synthesize functionalised spirocyclic cyclopentenes. The reaction tolerated various electron-rich and electron-deficient aryl substituted 2-arylidene-1,3-indanediones with high to excellent chemical yields (up to 99%) and moderate to good regioselectivity (up to 5 : 1). DFT studies have also been carried out to understand the regioselective nature of this reaction. The results of Frontier molecular orbital calculations and the activation energy (Ea) favour the formation of compound 3a via γ-attack compared to that of 4a via α-attack.

TL;DR: A multimodal biometric system is proposed based on LBP, PCA and probabilistic neural network (PNN), which shows that the proposed algorithm requires low computational cost.
Abstract: The use of unimodal biometric system is very low because of physiological defects, modes of user and their environment. Some of those drawbacks are alleviated by providing same identity for multiple evidences. Here a multimodal biometric system is proposed based on LBP, PCA and probabilistic neural network (PNN). In proposed method LBP extracted the Face features from face images and those features are given as input to PCA that generates Face Feature Vector with reduced Dimensions. Finger features are extracted from Fingerprint images using LBP and those features are given as input to PCA that generates Finger Feature Vector with reduced Dimensions. Using LBP, the distinct textual features of face and fingerprint are extracted. Weighted Summation Fusion method is used to combine these unimodal features. A probabilistic neural network is used as Classifier. An average recognition rate of 97.5% achieved with proposed method. Proposed method show that the proposed algorithm requires low computational cost.

TL;DR: In this article, the anticancer activity of newly synthesized compounds (13a-j) was carried out on four different types of human cancer cell lines like MCF-7 (breast), A549 (lung), Colo-205 (colon) and A2780 (ovarian) by the MTT method, and compared to etoposide used as a positive control.
Abstract: Cancer is a second leading cause of death after heart attack, in developing as well as undeveloped countries. It is caused by unregulated growth and metastasis of the abnormal cancer cells. Cancer can be cured by radiation, immunotherapy and chemotherapy, among them; chemotherapy is a good treatment for cancer, in which chemotherapeutic drug is used. The anticancer activity of newly synthesized compounds (13a-j) was carried out on four different types of human cancer cell lines like MCF-7 (breast), A549 (lung), Colo-205 (colon) and A2780 (ovarian) by the MTT method, and compared to etoposide used as a positive control. Among them, compound 13g with electron-withdrawing (3,5-dinitro) group, exhibited more promising activity in all cell lines (MCF-7 = 0.10±0.076 μM, A549 = 0.17±0.039 μM, Colo-205= 0.13±0.022 μM and A2780 = 0.87±0.027μM). This compound may act as lead drug in cancer chemotherapy. In future, this compound can be examined for clinical studies.

TL;DR: The detection of fire smoke plume in forests using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and then sending immediate information to EFS&T in order to protect the authors' forests is dealt with.
Abstract: Forests are one of the most important natural resources on this earth and they offer huge potential share in our GDP by producing many consumables. This paper deals with the detection of fire smoke plume in forests using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and then sending immediate information to EFS&T inorder to protect our forests. Because it prevents the spreading of fire in forest and also gives early information to EFS&T in short time. Controlling the surface fire gives the result as controlling the crown fire automatically. The existing vision based method with image processing technology is not able to find the surface fire. Because the camera was not able to capture surface fire images correctly for processing. This proposed method uses UAV (hexacopter) microcontroller and sensors were used. The system is very easy to operate, can operate on wide range of area and with good stability and reliability.

TL;DR: The leaf host relation is shown to be a theoretically ‘whole’ system having positive, sustainable impacts on biomass, food, energy, etc.
Abstract: Leaves play a critical role in the Earth's biosphere, regulating weather, renewing mineral nutrients and maintaining biotic processes to support both flora and fauna. Leaves also form an important resource for consumers. Together, plant hosts and consumers represent complex adaptive selection. We used systems dynamic and holon models to understand the ability of the leaf to meet both host plant and host consumer criteria resulting in socio-ecological system sustainability. We first identified dynamic cycles facilitated by the leaf as a component of both plant and consumer systems. Each of the variables in these loops serves a critical role in the production and function of the leaf, recycling energy and matter through plant and consumer systems. Control feedback balances the system, optimizing opposing selective forces to meet criteria for viability of host plants and usability by consumers, which return benefits through various services. We then examine the organization of the leaf host system, revealing mutually closed sub-systems corresponding to a definition of ‘component life’. We thus show the leaf host relation to be a theoretically ‘whole’ system having positive, sustainable impacts on biomass, food, energy, etc. These results may inform more general sustainability assessments by offering a mathematical definition of sustainability as emergent, cyclical organization in ecosystems.
