TL;DR: Personal Space as Influenced by Sex and Type of Movement was discussed in this article, where the authors found that personal space as influenced by sex and type of movement is highly correlated.

TL;DR: The Quick Test and the WAIS Verbal Scale were administered to 30 severely physically handicapped persons in a physical medicine and rehabilitation hospital and there was no significant difference between the mean IQ scores of the QT and theWAISVerbal Scale.
Abstract: The Quick Test and the WAIS Verbal Scale were administered to 30 severely physically handicapped persons in a physical medicine and rehabilitation hospital. There was no significant difference between the mean IQ scores of the QT and the WAIS Verbal Scale. This, coupled with a correlation of .80, supports the authors' hypothesis that the QT can be utilized for a quick assessment of intellectual functioning in the rehabilitation setting.

TL;DR: The smallest number of facets of wear were found in dentitions which had canine and incisor contacts that uncoupled the molars and premolars in the eccentric mandibular excursions.
Abstract: This article reports the findings and conclusions of a study made by a group of dentists at the Virginia Commonwealth University. The data reported were obtained by studying a sample of 50 individuals who had no caries and no periodontal illnesses beyond mild gingivitis. Twenty-four per cent of the sample had maximum intercuspation agreeing with centric relation. Casts of the dentitions were mounted on articulators so that detailed studies of condyle-cusp relations could be made. Facets of wear were fewest in centrically related, occlusally organized dentitions. The smallest number of facets of wear were found in dentitions which had canine and incisor contacts that uncoupled the molars and premolars in the eccentric mandibular excursions. Certain conclusions were reached which are based partly on scientific fact and partly on clinical evidence and judgment.

TL;DR: Patients with homozygous beta thalassemia who show a mild clinical course serve as an excellent example of how genetic modifiers are involved in the various forms of this entity.
Abstract: Probable homozygous beta thalassemia was detected in a Negro child. The criteria for this diagnosis included (1) a compatible clinical picture, (2) 60% hemoglobin F, 8.8% hemoglobin A 2 , and 31.2% hemoglobin A, and (3) peripheral blood smear compatible with homozygous beta thalassemia. The mild clinical course in this patient and in other Negroes with this disease reported, is suggestive of a fundamental difference between the defect in Negroes and other ethnic groups. A review of the literature shows the paucity of this disease in Negroes, with only eight other cases reported in America. The reasons for this are unknown. Patients with homozygous beta thalassemia who show a mild clinical course serve as an excellent example of how genetic modifiers are involved in the various forms of this entity.

TL;DR: The prosthodontist is not a psychiatrist and should not attempt to give psychiatric treatment, but to study human behavior and apply this knowledge when dealing with his associates and patients is evidence that he is conscious that his endeavors involve the whole patient and not just the oral cavity.
Abstract: The prosthodontist is not a psychiatrist and should not attempt to give psychiatric treatment. However, to study human behavior and apply this knowledge when dealing with his associates and patients is evidence that he is conscious that his endeavors involve the whole patient and not just the oral cavity.

TL;DR: Taped excerpts from the two experimental groups showed that the playback Ss were significantly more verbally productive per unit of time, and it was suggested that playback may have affected the process but not the outcome of psychotherapy.
Abstract: Numerous benefits have been attributed to use of playback during psychotherapy. To test its usefulness, 24 inmates at a federal women's prison were randomly divided into an audiotape-playback group, a regular therapy group, and a non-therapy control group. All Ss were administered a Q-sort measure immediately before and following a 6-wk. therapy or control period. The three groups did not significantly differ on any of the three Q-sort indices used. Taped excerpts from the two experimental groups showed that the playback Ss were significantly more verbally productive per unit of time, and it was suggested that playback may have affected the process but not the outcome of psychotherapy.

TL;DR: Data from the second experiment show that hand preference is related to line-length estimation; the first experiment yielded similar conclusions only when interpreted on the basis of motor and cultural phenomena.
Abstract: Two experiments were conducted to establish hand preference as a factor in the finding that line orientation influences apparent length of a line. In one experiment, left- and right-handed Ss reproduced by drawing the lengths of stimulus lines displaced from the vertical. In a second experiment, left- and right-handed Ss perceptually compared the displaced lines by the method of adjustment. Data from the second experiment show that hand preference is related to line-length estimation; the first experiment yielded similar conclusions only when interpreted on the basis of motor and cultural phenomena.

TL;DR: In this article, it was hypothesized that when two surfaces at different angles of slant were presented stereoscopically, the resulting percept would be a single slanted surface seen at an angle equal to the mean slant of the stimulus objects.
Abstract: It was hypothesized that when two surfaces at different angles of slant were presented stereoscopically, the resulting percept would be a single slanted surface seen at an angle equal to the mean slant of the stimulus objects. Fifteen Ss were tested on the Groman binocular disparator under 15 different conditions of disparity, ranging from −20 deg to +20 deg. Ten judgments were made for each condition in a random order. The stimulus cards were two 3 × 4 in. white cards ruled into ½-in. squares. Each exposure was 2 sec in duration. Following exposure E manipulated a test card until S indicated that it was at the same angle as the preceding perceived slant. The results strongly supported the hypothesis. They were discussed in terms of a gradient theory of slant perception and a neurophysiological averaging mechanism.
