TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present some new results on the Volga/Oka rivers confluence based on both in situ measurements of hydrological characteristics in the mixing zone and on satellite observations.
Abstract: River confluence is a ubiquitous phenomenon which plays an important role in river dynamics, mixing processes, pollution transport etc. It can be often visually observed that two converging rivers continue to flow as two parallel weakly mixing streams separated by a relatively thin transition region – a mixing zone (MZ), which can reach out for some distance downstream the junction apex. A typical example of a river confluence is the merging of the Volga and Oka rivers (Russia). This paper presents some new results on the Volga/Oka rivers confluence based on both ‘in situ’ measurements of hydrological characteristics in the MZ and on satellite observations. During the ‘in situ’ measurements a large set of data regarding velocity fields, chlorophyll-a concentration, water temperature, turbidity, parameters of organic surface films etc. was obtained. It is found that significant differences between the hydrological characteristics of the Volga and Oka flows are observed at sufficiently large distances downstream the junction apex (about 10 river widths or more); and the mixing zone remains quite narrow. Film sampling and further analysis of the surfactant films in the MZ were carried out. It is shown that the surface tension decreases and the film elasticity grows in the foam/slick bands separating the Volga and Oka flows thus indicating the increased concentration of surfactants in the bands. Satellite images of the Volga-Oka MZ are collected indicating that the confluence area is clearly seen in satellite optical imagery (MSI Sentinel-2 satellite) due to strong difference in color between the flows. The radar imagery shows the mixing zone in the form of a slick/foam band (SAR Sentinel-1) which manifests on the water surface due to enhanced damping of short wind waves.

TL;DR: In this paper, the results of numerically modeling fatigue damage accumulation in heat-resistant alloys (Nimonic 80A, Haynes 188) under combined thermal mechanical loading are presented.
Abstract: The results of numerically modeling fatigue damage accumulation in heat-resistant alloys (Nimonic 80A, Haynes 188) under combined thermal mechanical loading are presented. Special attention is paid to the issues of modeling the processes of cyclic thermal plastic deformation and fatigue damage accumulation for complex deformation processes accompanied by the rotation of the main sites of stress and strain tensors.

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental-theoretical methodology for determining material parameters and scalar functions in models and criteria of dynamic spallation fracture is presented, which involves testing specimens of the studied material, using special regimes of dynamic loading, followed by analyzing a number of numerical modeling problems.

Abstract: AbstractLow investment activity in waterway transport sector can be explained by mismatched interests and actions of participants of investment process. This requires the development of a mechanism to substantiate investment choices. Multi-criteria method is used, which supports decision-making under uncertainty and provides for systematic coherence among all actors involved. In order to formalize the task, it is suggested to classify problem situations, link those to the investor’s approach to settlement of the problem, correspond those to the relevance of the generalized criteria for choice and rank the priority for parameters of multi-criteria choice that are part of generalized ones. In addition, for each type of situation a ratio of generalized criteria of choice reflecting the logic of the investor’s behaviour is developed. The procedure of investment choice comprises formulation of rating matrix through preliminary definition of evaluation criteria (that represents priorities of the interested parties) and alternative ways for assessment, which shall relate to the basic proposals from different parties of interest. Creation and use of common investment space contributes to transparency of the investment choice procedure. Use of digital technologies improves transparency of investment choice as a tool for decision-making, which facilitates actors to choose the investment project. In this respect, related parties reconcile their interests and reach system integration. This has a direct impact on the increase in investment activity in the industry.KeywordsWaterway transportInvestment processStakeholdersInvestment choiceMulti-criteria analysisCommon information spaceDigitalizationDigital technologies

TL;DR: In terms of the current complicated socio-cultural and economic situations in the global communication system, achieving international cooperation becomes a challenge for Russia as mentioned in this paper, and one of the most important factors of successful international activity in the legal sphere is to master a lawyer's intercultural communicative competence.
Abstract: In terms of the current complicated socio-cultural and economic situations in the global communication system, achieving international cooperation becomes a challenge for Russia. A lawyer carries out legal regulations of interstate disputes with peaceful measures in the process of foreign language professional communications. One of the most important factors of successful international activity in the legal sphere is to master lawyer's intercultural communicative competence (ICC), as knowledge of foreign linguocultural features of verbal and non-verbal lawyers' behavior contributes to mutual understandings in professional interactions. The structure and content of a lawyers' ICC indicates its integrative nature, which enabled the authors to recognize an ESP approach in the intercultural context as a modern and perspective variant of integrated foreign language teaching for future law bachelors. This study offers methodological recommendations to implement an ESP model aimed at the development of lawyer's intercultural communicative competence.
