Abstract: Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), as the totality of systems and networks to measure, collect, store, analyze, and use energy usage data, is supposed to be the core component in smart grid. In AMI, there are numerous challenges among which cyber security is a major one that needs to be addressed with priority. The information centric networking (ICN) is a promising architecture for the future Internet that disseminates content based on named data instead of named hosts. The congestion control and self-security can enable more scalable, secure, collaborative, and pervasive networking, these make the ICN a potential network architecture for smart grid. This paper aims to apply the ICN approach on AMI system, which we termed as information centric AMI (ICN-AMI). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to distribute contents (or requests for contents) based on ICN in AMI system. Moreover, a simulation-based performance evaluation is employed to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed ICN-AMI approach in traffic control for developing AMI system in smart grid. In addition, we proposed a novel key management scheme (KMS) for a large number of smart meters in this system to ensure confidentiality, integrality, and authentication. To validate the scheme, the security analysis, comparisons are done to demonstrate that the proposed information centric KMS (ICN-KMS) is possible and a promising solution for ICN-AMI system.

Abstract: Japanese manufacturing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have actively undertaken Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Asia since the mid-1980s. FDI contributes to economic growth of the FDI recipient countries, as it brings in not only financial resources for investment but also technologies and managerial know-how, which are important factors for promoting economic growth. Recognizing these benefits of receiving FDI, policy makers in developing countries have formulated various strategies to attract FDI. This paper examines the factors in the host countries that would attract FDI by Japanese SMEs. Our results show the importance of both supply-side and demand-side factors in the recipient countries for attracting FDI by Japanese SMEs. Supply-side factors include abundance of low-wage labor, availability of well-developed infrastructure, and good governance of the host government, while an important demand-side factor is the presence of sizable local market. In addition, Japanese SMEs regard industrial agglomeration, which has a element of both supply and demand factors, as an important factors making FDI decision. Supply-side factors are found to be important for attracting Japanese FDI in developing countries, while demand-factors play a role in attracting Japanese FDI in developed countries. A comparison of the results for SMEs to those for large firms reveals that SMEs are more sensitive to the conditions in the host countries in making their FDI decision. In particular, SMEs regard the availability of low-wage labor, well-developed infrastructure, and industrial agglomeration as important elements much more than large firms. High sensitivity of SMEs to local economic conditions in their decision on FDI location may be explained by their limited availability of financial and human resources and high dependence on overseas production in their business. In light of these findings, we conclude that countries interested in hosting FDI have to provide a very attractive business environment.

Abstract: A search for the neutral Higgs bosons predicted by the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is reported. The analysis is performed on data from proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The samples used for this search were collected in 2012 and correspond to integrated luminosities in the range 19.5-20.3 fb−1. The MSSM Higgs bosons are searched for in the τ τ final state. No significant excess over the expected background is observed, and exclusion limits are derived for the production cross section times branching fraction of a scalar particle as a function of its mass. The results are also interpreted in the MSSM parameter space for various benchmark scenarios.

Abstract: The complete nucleotide sequence of the mitochondrial genome of a very primitive unicellular red alga, Cyanidioschyzon merolae , has been determined The mitochondrial genome of Cmerolae contains 34 genes for proteins including unidentified open reading frames (ORFs) (three subunits of cytochrome c oxidase, apocytochrome b protein, three subunits of F1F0-ATPase, seven subunits of NADH ubiquinone oxidoreductase, three subunits of succinate dehydrogenase, four proteins implicated in c-type cytochrome biogenesis, 11 ribosomal subunits and two unidentified open reading frames), three genes for rRNAs and 25 genes for tRNAs The G+C content of this mitochondrial genome is 272% The genes are encoded on both strands The genome size is comparatively small for a plant mitochondrial genome (32 211 bp) The mitochondrial genome resembles those of plants in its gene content because it contains several ribosomal protein genes and ORFs shared by other plant mitochondrial genomes In contrast, it resembles those of animals in the genome organization, because it has very short intergenic regions and no introns The gene set in this mitochondrial genome is a subset of that of Reclinomonas americana , an amoeboid protozoan The results suggest that plant mitochondria originate from the same ancestor as other mitochondria and that most genes were lost from the mitochondrial genome at a fairly early stage of the evolution of the plants
