TL;DR: In this paper, a material system (60) contains close packed hollow shapes (50, 70) having a dense wall structure (52, 66), which are bonded together and which may contain a matrix binder material (56) between the shapes, where the system has a stable porosity, and is abradable and thermally stable at temperatures up to possibly 1700°C.
Abstract: A material system (60) contains close packed hollow shapes (50, 70) having a dense wall structure (52, 66), which are bonded together and which may contain a matrix binder material (56) between the shapes, where the system has a stable porosity, and is abradable and thermally stable at temperatures up to possibly 1700°C, where such systems are useful in turbine apparatus.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a few hundred designs for 2, 3, and 4 section transformers in a few minutes, and the results were reproduced in tables, which should permit the calculation of most cases of practical interest by interpolation.
Abstract: Quarter-wave transformers are frequently required in microwave and UHF systems. An exact design procedure is known but involves lengthy calculations. Faced with the design of many such transformers, the calculations were programmed on an IBM 704 digital computer. The speed of computation is such that several hundred designs for 2, 3, and 4 section transformers were systematically computed in a few minutes. The results are reproduced here in tables, which should permit the calculation of most cases of practical interest by interpolation.

TL;DR: In this paper, an electrochemical apparatus is made having a generator section (22) containing electrochemical cells (16), a fresh feed fuel inlet (28), a gaseous feed oxidant inlet(30), and at least one hot Gaseous spent fuel recirculation channel (46), a portion of which is in contact with the outside of a mixer chamber (52), passes from the generator chamber to combine with the fresh feed feed inlet at the entrance to the mixer chamber.
Abstract: An electrochemical apparatus (10) is made having a generator section (22) containing electrochemical cells (16), a fresh gaseous feed fuel inlet (28), a gaseous feed oxidant inlet (30), and at least one hot gaseous spent fuel recirculation channel (46), where the spent fuel recirculation channel (46), a portion of which is in contact with the outside of a mixer chamber (52), passes from the generator chamber (22) to combine with the fresh feed fuel inlet (28) at the entrance to the mixer chamber, and a mixer nozzle (50) is located at the entrance to the mixer chamber, where the mixer chamber (52) connects with the reforming chamber (54), and where the mixer-diffuser chamber (52) and mixer nozzle (50) are exterior to and spaced apart from the combustion chamber (24), and the generator chamber (22), and the mixer nozzle (50) can operate below 400°C.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of humidity, particle hygroscopicity, and size on the mass loading capacity of glass fiber high efficiency particulate air filters was studied, and specific cake resistance K 2 was computed for different test conditions and used as a measure of the mass load capacity.
Abstract: The effect of humidity, particle hygroscopicity, and size on the mass loading capacity of glass fiber high efficiency particulate air filters was studied. Above the deliquescent point, the pressure drop across the filter increased nonlinearly with areal loading density (mass collected/filtration area) of a NaCl aerosol, thus significantly reducing the mass loading capacity of the filter compared to dry hygroscopic or nonhygroscopic particle mass loadings. The specific cake resistance K 2 was computed for different test conditions and used as a measure of the mass loading capacity. K 2 was found to decrease with increasing humidity for nonhygroscopic aluminum oxide particles and for hygroscopic NaCl particles (at humidities below the deliquescent point). It is postulated that an increase in humidity leads to the formation of a more open particulate cake which lowers the pressure drop for a given mass loading. A formula for predicting K 2 for lognormally distributed aerosols (parameters obtained from impact...
