TL;DR: In this paper, the most important factors affecting the industrial turbine engine performance deterioration with service time are described and some approximate data on the prediction of the rate of deterioration is provided. Recommendations are made on how to detect and monitor the performance deterioration.
Abstract: This paper describes the most important factors affecting the industrial gas turbine engine performance deterioration with service time and provides some approximate data on the prediction of the rate of deterioration. Recommendations are made on how to detect and monitor the performance deterioration. Preventative measures, which can be taken to avoid or retard the performance deterioration, are described in some detail.Copyright © 1991 by ASME

TL;DR: In this article, the formation of alumina-based ceramic materials from alkoxide starting materials is discussed, with particular attention given to Al2O3-SiO2 systems, especially mullite.
Abstract: This manuscript discusses the formation of alumina-based ceramic materials from alkoxide starting materials. Particular attention is given to Al2O3-SiO2 systems, especially mullite. When the oxide network of these materials is formed via chemical polymerization of alkoxides, the ultrastructure of the resultant condensates is fundamentally affected by the nature and kinetics of the condensation reactions. Crystallization of mullite from an amorphous Al6Si2O13 at ∼ 980°C appears to be related to the intimacy and homogeneity of the aluminium-silicon bonding in the precursor networks. Network inhomogeneities due to the different hydrolysis rates of mixed alkoxides diminish by reduction of the chemical encounter rates with water during the hydrolytic polycondensation. Mullite produced from homogeneous and stoichiometric condensate shows a large spontaneous densification at ∼ 980° C. The microstructure of this material shows no indication of a liquid phase at the grain boundaries.

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for recovering heat from the exhaust gas of a gas turbine operating in a combined cycle power plant is described. But the authors do not consider the use of steam for feedwater heating.
Abstract: A system and method are provided for recovering heat from the exhaust gas of a gas turbine operating in a combined cycle power plant. Heat is recovered by transferring it to feedwater supplied to a heat recovery steam generator. The heat recovery steam generator generates steam for expansion in a steam turbine, thereby producing additional rotating shaft power, and injection into the combustor of the gas turbine, thereby reducing nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas. Feedwater from the condenser is entered directly into a feedwater heater in the heat recovery steam generator, thus avoiding the use of steam for feedwater heating. Acid corrosion is avoided by regulating the heat transferred from the exhaust gas to the feedwater heater in the event high sulfur fuel is burned in the gas turbine combustor.

TL;DR: A powder neutron diffraction study showed that MnTiO 3 has a magnetic structure with the Mn 2+ spins antiparallel within each layer and NiTiO3 has the same magnetic structure as FeNiO 3, in which the spins are parallel within each layers and adjacent layers are antip-allel as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: MnTiO 3 and NiTiO 3 have a rhombohedral crystal structure similar to FeTiO 3 in which layers of Fe and Ti atoms alternate along the rhombohedral axis with oxygen layers between them. A powder neutron diffraction study shows that MnTiO 3 has a magnetic structure with the Mn 2+ spins antiparallel within each layer. On the other hand, NiTiO 3 has the same magnetic structure as FeTiO 3 , in which the spins are parallel within each layer and adjacent layers are antiparallel. The spins are directed along the [111] direction in MnTiO 3 and perpendicular to it in NiTiO 3 . In addition to the magnetic study, the nuclear intensities indicate that the Ni and Ti in NiTiO 3 are only 88 per cent ordered.

TL;DR: In this paper, the transient and dynamic stability of the Peace River 500kV transmission system was studied with a new digital computer program, which included direct and quadrature machine axes, saturation, excitation, and governing systems.
Abstract: The transient and dynamic stability of the Peace River 500-kV transmission system was studied with a new digital computer program. The detailed representation included direct and quadrature machine axes, saturation, excitation, and governing systems. Stability is maintained following faults by employing a braking resistor and additional stabilizing signal to the generator excitation system.
