TL;DR: In this paper, an automatic test system controlled by a general purpose digital central processor is described, which accepts test programs in a high level compiler language such as Atlas and is compacted into a simplified language which is utilized to communicate with test devices via a standard IEEE 488 data bus.
Abstract: An automatic test system controlled by a general purpose digital central processor is disclosed. The central processor accepts test programs in a high level compiler language such as Atlas. The Atlas program is compacted into a simplified language which is utilized to communicate with test devices via a standard IEEE 488 data bus. Each of the test devices includes a programmable interface digital processor which performs any translation that may be necessary in order to permit specific test instruments coupled to the central processor via the interface processor to perform the tests specified by the high level test programs. A switching matrix also communicates with the digital processor to connect the appropriate test device to the unit under test.

TL;DR: In this article, a stow away video display terminal is used with a computer work station or desk, where the video display is concealed within the desk beneath the work surface in a stored condition when not in use and raised to a viewable position above the working surface by means of a motor driven lift mechanism when it is needed.

Abstract: A survey of developments in electric contact design for vacuum interrupters is presented. The major emphasis is placed upon those characteristics of contact design that have led to practical vacuum interrupters. A brief description is given of the different modes of vacuum arc that have been observed and how these modes occur during one-half cycle of high current arcing. In the main body of the paper the design philosophy behind vacuum interrupter contact design is presented. It is shown that only two classes of contact have achieved practical utilization. The first of these design classes causes a magnetic field to be impressed at right angles to the arc current and hence, causes the arc to move rapidly over the contact face. The second design class impresses a magnetic field parallel to the arc current. This forces the arc into a diffuse mode with many widely separated cathode spots and a diffuse current collection at the anode even at very high currents. Each of these contact designs is discussed and their advantages and disadvantages are deline- ated.

TL;DR: The principles of statistical signal-detection theory are applied to the detection of optical signals by postulating the photoelectric effect as the mechanism for the interaction of the electromagnetic field of the light with matter.
Abstract: The principles of statistical signal-detection theory are applied to the detection of optical signals by postulating the photoelectric effect as the mechanism for the interaction of the electromagnetic field of the light with matter. The data with which the detection system works are the numbers of photoelectric events in various parts of a receptor on which the light falls after passing through an aperture. The theory prescribes how the data should be processed and measures the detectability of the signals in terms of an SNR. The theory is applied to the detection of a point source and of an array of incoherent point sources, all against a uniform background. The resolution of two weak close point sources of radiation observed against a uniform background is also treated as a problem in the testing of hypotheses, and the reliability of the system derived on this basis is measured by an SNR that is a function of the angular separation of the sources. The estimation of the parameters of an optical signal is discussed from the standpoint of statistical estimation theory. Estimation of the angular position of a point source against a uniform background is treated as an example.

TL;DR: In this article, the important physical and electrical properties of these diverse and highly useful insulating materials are summarized and a range of applications of these resins is mentioned and illustrated, and factors of chemical structure which influence the resulting resin properties are discussed.
Abstract: This summarizes the important physical and electrical characteristics of these diverse and highly useful insulating materials. Factors of chemical structure which influence the resulting resin properties are discussed. The great variety of properties which can be achieved through variations in this one class of resins is emphasized. A range of applications of these resins is mentioned and illustrated.
