03 Feb 1986TL;DR: In this paper, the operator of a complex process facility is aided in executing step-by-step procedures by a computer-based system which incorporates monitored plant data and interactive plant operator responses to prompts to progress step by step through selected procedures.
Abstract: The operator of a complex process facility is aided in executing step by step procedures by a computer based system which incorporates monitored plant data and interactive plant operator responses to prompts to progress step by step through selected procedures. At each procedure step the plant status is evaluated and a recommended course of action is identified. The results are displayed on a visual display device to provide operator guidance for executing the procedure in effect. Parallel process monitoring visually alerts the user to conditions not considered by the current step of the active procedure, and where the seriousness of the other condition warrants, provides procedure-based recommendations for priority action. The system can be accessed by multiple users at separate locations for coordinated execution of a single procedure or simultaneous execution of two different procedures. A permanent chronological record of the step by step execution of the selected procedures including the pertinent plant conditions and operator responses, and the parallel monitored status tree conditions is also generated by the system for subsequent review and analysis.

31 Mar 1978TL;DR: In this article, an electric energy meter has a programmable time based measuring system carried in a sealed enclosure for mounting the meter at a metering location, and a radiation sensitive external data interface receives and transmits data encoded radiations through a transparent communications window of the enclosure.
Abstract: An electric energy meter has a programmable time based measuring system carried in a sealed enclosure for mounting the meter at a metering location. A radiation sensitive external data interface receives and transmits data encoded radiations through a transparent communications window of the enclosure. Pulse data is processed by the external data interface in serial data bit transmissions in and out of the measuring system for programming, readout and testing of the system.

23 Feb 1999TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus for determining the position of one or more locomotives in a train consist is presented, where the receiver (108) receives a signal such as a reference signal from a global system determines a coordinate position for that locomotive.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the position of one or more locomotives (102, 104) in a train consist. The receiver (108) receives a signal such as a reference signal from a global system determines a coordinate position for that locomotive. A processor (112) determines a relative position for the locomotive in the train consist based on its determined coordinate position. This process is periodically repeated for each locomotive in the train consist so that the configuration of locomotives in the train consist may be tracked or verified as cars (106) are added or removed from the train.
