TL;DR: In this paper, time-temperature-precipitation diagrams were determined between 400° and 900°C for up to 3000 hr as a function of carbon content, solution treatment temperature, and cold work.
Abstract: Although Type 316 austenitic stainless steel is widely used in steam generating plants and nuclear reactors the knowledge about aging reactions, nature of precipitates, and precipitation kinetics during high temperature exposure is limited. Time-temperature-precipitation (TTP) diagrams were determined between 400° and 900°C for up to 3000 hr as a function of carbon content, solution treatment temperature, and cold work. The nucleation and growth phenomena, morphology, and composition of the various carbide (M23C6, M6C) and intermetallic phases (σ, χ, η were determined. The complex sequence of phase instabilities can be explained on the basis of the carbon content, effect of molybdenum and chromium on the carbon solubility, thermodynamic stability of the phases, and the kinetics of the various precipitation reactions.

TL;DR: In this article, the one-phonon differential scattering cross section for the coherent scattering of thermal neutrons by an anharmonic Bravais crystal is obtained correct to the lowest nonvanishing order in the an-harmonic force constants.
Abstract: The one-phonon differential scattering cross section for the coherent scattering of thermal neutrons by an anharmonic Bravais crystal is obtained correct to the lowest nonvanishing order in the anharmonic force constants. Cubic and quartic anharmonic terms are retained in the crystal's Hamiltonian. It is found that the $\ensuremath{\delta}$-function peaks in the energy distribution of the scattered neutrons for a fixed momentum transfer (which occur at the unperturbed phonon energies) in the harmonic approximation are broadened and their positions are shifted in an anharmonic crystal. Some numerical results for the magnitudes of the phonon widths and shifts are obtained for a simple model of a face-centered cubic crystal.

TL;DR: A presentation of what cognitive systems are, and of how CSE can contribute to the design of an MMS, from cognitive task analysis to final evaluation is given.
Abstract: This paper presents an approach to the description and analysis of complex Man-Machine Systems (MMSs) called Cognitive Systems Engineering (CSE). In contrast to traditional approaches to the study of man-machine systems which mainly operate on the physical and physiological level, CSE operates on the level of cognitive functions. Instead of viewing an MMS as decomposable by mechanistic principles, CSE introduces the concept of a cognitive system: an adaptive system which functions using knowledge about itself and the environment in the planning and modification of actions. Operators are generally acknowledged to use a model of the system (machine) with which they work. Similarly, the machine has an image of the operator. The designer of an MMS must recognize this, and strive to obtain a match between the machine's image and the user characteristics on a cognitive level, rather than just on the level of physical functions. This article gives a presentation of what cognitive systems are, and of how CSE can contribute to the design of an MMS, from cognitive task analysis to final evaluation.

TL;DR: In this article, the usefulness of the finite element method for the computation of crack tip stress intensity factors is established, and the results are compared not only to the results of other analytical solutions, but additional correlation is made of two different fracture test specimen types.
