Abstract: One of the recurring problems facing energy control center dispatchers each day is how to operate the system during the periods of high load pickup, such that there is sufflcient generation to follow the load pickup, while still maintaining reasonable reserve and/or regulation margin This paper shows a technical solution to this problem which can be achieved with a very efficient use of computer resources The problem is expressed as a dynamic programming scheduling problem, and a feasible, but suboptimal solution is proposed, which eliminates the usual search space problem This method reduces the problem to a backward sequence of dispatch problems, with the generator limits being carefully adjusted between each time interval in the solution sequence The paper also discusses an efficient algorithm for the solution of a reserve constrained economic dispatch, which is the static optimization technique used at each interval

Abstract: A set of moisture equilibrium charts applicable to transformer insulation is presented. These may be used for the estimation of dryness levels in transformer insulation during the preparative and operational stages, and also during storage. A critique on the well known Piper chart is provided. Techniques to construct equilibrium curves for the combined paper-oil system from indirect measurements are outlined, and the interpretation of these curves for practical situations is discussed.

Abstract: It has been known for some time that an induction machine whose rotor is driven mechanically may become selfexcited if capacitors are connected across its terminals. The present paper is concerned with the predetermination of the machine characteristics when operating under such conditions. The frequency of excitation is very close to the synchronous frequeney corresponding to the speed of the rotor. The voltage to which the machine will excite is dependent upon its no- load excitation characteristics at that frequency, the criterion to be satisfied being that the lagging volt-amperes of excitation equal the leading volt-amperes of the capacitors. Under load, similar criteria must be satisfied. Voltage conditions are determined by a cut-and-try solution such that the summation of reactive volt-amperes equals zero. The slip is then obtained from the relation that the summation of the real power equals zero. These relations have been applied to various types of loads, such as pure resistance and inductive resistance, single-phase and three-phase and also to induction-motor load. Excellent checks between test and calculated results have been obtained.
