TL;DR: In this paper, a Schwarz-Christoffel mapping formula for polygonal domains of finite connectivitym ≥ 2 was established, and a singularity function with the same boundary behavior was constructed by a method of images.
Abstract: A Schwarz-Christoffel mapping formula is established for polygonal domains of finite connectivitym≥2 thereby extending the results of Christoffel (1867) and Schwarz (1869) form=1 and Komatu (1945),m=2. A formula forf, the conformal map of the exterior ofm bounded disks to the exterior ofm bounded disjoint polygons, is derived. The derivation characterizes the global preSchwarzianf″ (z)/f′ (z) on the Riemann sphere in terms of its singularities on the sphere and its values on them boundary circles via the reflection principle and then identifies a singularity function with the same boundary behavior. The singularity function is constructed by a “method of images” infinite sequence of iterations of reflecting prevertex singularities from them boundary circles to the whole sphere.

TL;DR: This article examined career persistence and job satisfaction of beginning teachers and found that students who persisted in teaching were significantly more satisfied than both those who did not persist and those with non-teaching careers.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this research is to examine career persistence and job satisfaction of beginning teachers. Design/methodology/approach – Four hundred and fifty‐one tenth grade students from a nationally representative sample, who aspired to be teachers, were examined over a ten year period regarding their career choices. Students who persisted in teaching were compared to students who did not persist with regard to job satisfaction. A job satisfaction model was tested using clusters of variables as guided by Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT).Findings – Students who persisted in teaching were significantly more satisfied than both those who did not persist and those with non‐teaching careers. Beginning teachers were more satisfied with their jobs than those in other occupations. Teachers who had teaching licenses also reported being more satisfied than those who did not have licenses. The social‐contextual factors, i.e. race, socioeconomic status, teaching license, parents' education, and occu...

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a hydrogen-bonding motif is a successful self-assembly method to build SWNTs bearing donor-acceptor nanohybrids, which are useful for light-energy harvesting and photovoltaic applications.
Abstract: An ammonium ion-crown ether interaction has been successfully used to construct porphyrin-single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) donor-acceptor hybrids. The [18]crown-6 to alkyl ammonium ion binding strategy resulted in porphyrin-SWNT nanohybrids that are stable and soluble in DMF. The porphyrin-SWNT hybrids were characterized by spectroscopic, TEM, and electrochemical techniques. Both steady-state and time-resolved emission studies revealed efficient quenching of the singlet excited state of the porphyrins and free-energy calculations suggested that electron-transfer quenching occurred. Nanosecond transient absorption spectral results supported the charge-separation quenching process. Charge-stabilization was also observed for the nanohybrids in which the lifetime of the radical ion pairs was around 100 ns. The present nanohybrids were also used to reduce the hexyl viologen dication (HV 2+ ) and to oxidize 1-benzyl-1,4-dihydronicotinamide in solution in an electron-pooling experiment. Accumulation of the radical cation (HV .+ ) was observed in high yields, which provided additional proof for the occurrence of photoinduced charge separation. The present study demonstrates that a hydrogen-bonding motif is a successful self-assembly method to build SWNTs bearing donor-acceptor nanohybrids, which are useful for light-energy harvesting and photovoltaic applications.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the relationship between primary divisiveness and general election results in gubernatorial and senatorial elections and found that a divisive primary adversely affects a party's chance for general election victory.
Abstract: This study examines the relationship between primary divisiveness and general election results in gubernatorial and senatorial elections. Previous work in this area has been unable to substantiate this relationship. However, these inconclusive results may be due in part to conceptual and methodological shortcomings. We attempt to avoid such pitfalls in an effort to test the divisive primary hypothesis more effectively. Our study, which analyzes separately gubernatorial and senatorial elections, reveals that a divisive primary adversely affects a party's chance for general election victory. Curiously, the analysis also demonstrates that divisive primaries disadvantage senatorial candidates more than gubernatorial candidates, and Democratics more than Republicans.

TL;DR: The authors investigated the effect of the selling situation encountered by a salesperson on the relationship between selling strategy and sales performance and found that an adaptive selling strategy will generally enhance performance outcomes, and that this relationship is stronger in a modified rebuy and new buy situation.
