TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report on the design and testing of three auction mechanisms to maximize revenue and efficiency in the sale of two vintages of nitrous oxide emission allowances by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2004.
Abstract: We report on the design and testing of three auction mechanisms to maximize revenue and efficiency in the sale of two vintages of nitrous oxide emission allowances by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2004. The three mechanisms considered were a combinatorial sealed bid (CSB) auction, a sequential English clock (SEC) auction, and a combinatorial English clock (CEC) auction. We find the SEC and CEC mechanisms to be superior the CSB when demand is relatively elastic. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

TL;DR: This paper presents a method for computing the stationary in time wave field that results from steady air flow over topography as a superposition of Gaussian beams and shows that the approximate Gaussian beam stationary solution is close to a true time-dependent solution of the linearized system.
Abstract: Gaussian beams are approximate solutions to hyperbolic partial differential equations that are concentrated on a curve in space-time. In this paper, we present a method for computing the stationary in time wave field that results from steady air flow over topography as a superposition of Gaussian beams. We derive the system of equations that governs these mountain waves as a linearization of the basic equations of fluid dynamics and show that this system is well-posed. Furthermore, we show that the approximate Gaussian beam stationary solution is close to a true time-dependent solution of the linearized system.

TL;DR: Self-report retrospective data from a nonrandom sample limit generalizability of results; however, the awareness and reasoning of the women, coupled with their emphasis on leaving as process and personal growth, suggest the importance of education and support programs for abused women and women at risk for abuse.
Abstract: Research has focused on factors associated with leaving physically abusive relationships, yet little is known about what the woman thinks when she leaves. Fifty‐one formerly battered women from rural and metropolitan areas in two midwestern states described 86 reasons for leaving a physically abusive relationship. During open‐ended interviews, women who rated themselves as severely abused spontaneously emphasized leaving as a process. Content analysis resulted in reasons categorized as safety, dependency, and personal growth. Self‐report retrospective data from a nonrandom sample limit generalizability of results; however, the awareness and reasoning of the women, coupled with their emphasis on leaving as process and personal growth, suggest the importance of education and support programs for abused women and women at risk for abuse.

TL;DR: The tris-benzoate uranyl anion was formed and photodissociated by loss of a benzoate radical, enabling measurement of the infrared spectrum that was in close agreement with that calculated for a structure containing one monodentate and two bidentate benzoates ligands.
