TL;DR: This article revisited a conceptual definition of "mental models of dynamic systems" proposed for use in system dynamics research by Doyle and Ford and commented on by Lane, with particular attention to the history and appropriate use of the term "cognitive map".
Abstract: This article revisits a conceptual definition of “mental models of dynamic systems” proposed for use in system dynamics research by Doyle and Ford and commented on by Lane. Lane's proposed amendments to the definition are discussed in turn, with particular attention to the history and appropriate use of the term “cognitive map.” A revised definition informed by Lane's commentary is offered. TL;DR: Impedance spectroscopy and post-test analyses indicate the formation of protective coatings by both additives on the cathode surface that prevent oxidative breakdown of the electrolyte, but only TTFP containing cells demonstrate the improved capacity retention and Coulombic efficiency.
Abstract: Triethlylphosphite (TEP) and tris(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) phosphite (TTFP) have been evaluated as electrolyte additives for high-voltage Li-ion battery cells using a Ni-rich layered cathode material LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 (NCM523) and the conventional carbonate electrolyte. The repeated charge/discharge cycling for cells containing 1 wt % of these additives was performed using an NCM523/graphite full cell operated at the voltage window from 3.0–4.6 V. During the initial charge process, these additives decompose on the cathode surface at a lower oxidation potential than the baseline electrolyte. Impedance spectroscopy and post-test analyses indicate the formation of protective coatings by both additives on the cathode surface that prevent oxidative breakdown of the electrolyte. However, only TTFP containing cells demonstrate the improved capacity retention and Coulombic efficiency. For TEP, the protective coating is also formed, but low Li+ ion mobility through the interphase layer results in inferior performan...

TL;DR: This study produced four stable tetraploid clones of A. annua L. Annua from the YUT16 hairy root clone and showed major differences in growth and artemisinin production compared to the diploid clone.
Abstract: Hairy root cultures of diploid Artemisia annua L. (clone YUT16) grow rapidly and produce the antimalarial sesquiterpene artemisinin. Little is known about how polyploidy affects the growth of transformed hairy roots and the production of secondary metabolites. Using colchicine, we produced four stable tetraploid clones of A. annua L. from the YUT16 hairy root clone. Analysis showed major differences in growth and artemisinin production compared to the diploid clone. Tetraploid clones produced up to six times more artemisinin than the diploid parent. This study provides an initial step in increasing our understanding of the role of polyploidy in secondary metabolite production, especially in hairy roots.
