TL;DR: Continuously tunable and coherent radiation in the wide range 56-1618 mum (0.18-5.27 THz) has been achieved as a novel and promising terahertz source based on collinear phase-matched difference frequency generation in a GaSe crystal.
Abstract: Continuously tunable and coherent radiation in the wide range 56.8–1618 µm (0.18–5.27 THz) has been achieved as a novel and promising terahertz source based on collinear phase-matched difference frequency generation in a GaSe crystal. This source has the advantages of high coherence, simplicity for tuning, simple alignment, and stable output. The peak output power for the terahertz radiation reaches 69.4 W at a wavelength of 196 µm (1.53 THz), which corresponds to a photon conversion efficiency of 3.3%. A simple optimization of the design can yield a compact terahertz source.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of process variables on flow response and microstructure evolution during hot working of Ti-6Al-4V with a colony alpha preform micro-structure was established using isothermal hot compression tests.
Abstract: The effect of process variables on flow response and microstructure evolution during hot working of Ti–6Al–4V with a colony alpha preform microstructure was established using isothermal hot compression tests. Testing was conducted on material with prior-beta grain sizes of 100 μm or 400 μm at strain rates of 0.001–10 s−1, test temperatures between 815 and 955°C, and height reductions of 40–80%. All of the flow curves exhibited a peak stress followed by moderate flow softening. The absence of a grain/colony size dependence of flow behavior, coupled with relatively low values of the strain rate sensitivity of the flow stress (∼0.05–0.30), led to the conclusion that deformation was controlled by dislocation glide/climb processes. Flow softening was interpreted in terms of deformation heating and substructure/texture evolution. The dependence on strain rate and temperature of the kinetics of dynamic globularization of the colony microstructure was complex and appeared to be of second-order importance compared to the effects of strain per se, thus suggesting the dominance of dislocation-type processes for the control of globularization as well.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigate the effect of the aft ramp angle on the character of the shear layer that spans the cavity in a nonreacting supersonic ship.
Abstract: Experimentalandcomputationalinvestigationsofthee owe eldassociatedwithseveralcavity-basede ameholders in a nonreacting supersonic e ow are described. All cavity e ows were of the open type, that is, length-to-depth ratio L/D<10. Two values of L/D were studied with several offset ratios (OR) and aft ramp angles µ. Results indicate that the aft ramp angle plays an important role in determining the character of the shear layer that spans the cavity. For a rectangular cavity with OR=1 and µ=90 deg, a compression wave forms as the e ow separates from the cavity’ s upstream corner. A strong recompression occurs at the aft wall, and the e ow is visibly unsteady. The pressure on the cavity fore wall decreases steadily and the recompression process occurs more gradually with decreasing aftrampangle.Higherdrag coefe cientsandshorterresidencetimesarefoundin cavitieswithshallower ramp angles.
