TL;DR: In this article, an experimental study on the separation of cobalt(II) cations from an aqueous solution by means of liquid surfactant membranes containing the ion exchanger di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid was presented.
Abstract: An experimental study is presented on the separation of cobalt(II) cations from an aqueous solution by means of liquid surfactant membranes containing the ion exchanger di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid. The process was studied at various emulsifier (Span 80) concentrations, membrane viscosities, pHs, and rates of stirring as well as at various KNO3 and cobalt concentrations. Cobalt recovery over 99% was achieved with up to tenfold enrichment. A substantial difference of the process course for cobalt and copper was found which allowed for their effective separation.

TL;DR: Using transient photocurrent and thermally stimulated current measurements, it was found that mechanical surface roughening of anthracene crystals introduces trapping levels for both electrons and holes as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Using transient photocurrent and thermally stimulated current measurements it is found that mechanical surface roughening of anthracene crystals introduces trapping levels for both electrons and holes. The depths of the levels differ significantly; the energy of the hole trapping level is 0.46 eV whereas the energy of the electron trapping level is assessed to be greater than 0.9 eV. The nature of the trapping levels is discussed.

Abstract: The transducer is formed of at least two metallic blocks (3) with at least one layer 3 of piezo-electric material sandwiched between these metallic blocks, the faces of the layer or layers being metal sprayed to conduct the voltage One metallic block has at least one projecting element reaching to the opposite metallic block and being connected with the opposite block by means of a binder Stresses are generated between the layers of piezo-electric material and the metallic blocks originate in the piezo-ceramic material The faces of contact between the metallic blocks can be either slanted or perpendicular relative to the layers of piezo-electric material The projecting elements can be made either as dowels or as collars Oscillations in the transducer are excited by a voltage applied to the transducer terminals

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental study is presented of the continuous flow, foam fractionation of cyanide complex anions: Ag(CN)2 − and Au(CN2 − from 1.0 to 8.0 × 10−5 M aqueous solutions.
Abstract: An experimental study is presented of the continuous flow, foam fractionation of cyanide complex anions: Ag(CN)2 − and Au(CN)2 − from 1.0 to 8.0 × 10−5 M aqueous solutions. The quaternary ammonium surfactant, hexadecyltriethylammonium iodide, is modeled as a soluble ion exchanger. The selectivity coefficients were determined for Ag(CN)2 − vs I− equal to 2.71, and for Au(CN)2 − vs I− equal to 10.85. These coefficients are discussed in terms of the physicochemical properties of cyanide complex anions.

TL;DR: In this article, the theory of Raman scattering intensities is modified to take account of crystal optics, and the results are combined with results on the effect of transmission through the crystal surface to give an expression for the polarized Raman intensity in an orthogonal system with only one axis a principal dielectric axis.
Abstract: The theory of Raman scattering intensities is modified to take account of crystal optics. The radiation at a long distance from an oscillating electric dipole in a dielectric continuum is calculated for propagation along or perpendicular to a principal dielectric axis. The results are combined with results on the effect of transmission through the crystal surface to give an expression for the polarized Raman intensity in an orthogonal axis system with only one axis a principal dielectric axis. For 90° scattering in monoclinic crystals in the abc′ axis system, there may be up to three different intensity patterns for a given polarization, yielding ten distinct crystal settings. Sample calculations for naphthalene show that the intensity patterns for the same polarizations in distinct settings differ only slightly, and this will normally be the case.

TL;DR: In this article, the properties of new microstrip transmission lines using a slot in the groundplane were discussed and the potential distribution on the strip and the capacitance were computed using the variational expression in the Fourier-transformed domain.
Abstract: The paper discusses the properties of new microstrip transmission lines using a slot in the ground-plane. These lines have high characteristic impedance and their attenuation and frequency dispersion as well are small. A very tightly coupled cross-section of microstrip lines may be constructed using the new structures of coupled-lines. The numerical computations of the characteristic impedance and phase velocity of the single-and coupled-lines are given. In the variational method an approximated functions of the charge density on the strip and the potential in the slot in order to fulfil of the complicated boundary conditions caused by the slot and the multi-layered dielectric are evaluated. Then the potential distribution on the strip and the capacitance are computed using the variational expression in the Fourier-transformed domain. The applications of the new microstrip lines in MIC and some experimental results are presented.

Abstract: Some aspects of the application of functional simulation to fault diagnosis are discussed. A technique for functional simulation that preserves a high level of accuracy is described. Applicability of this method to fault simulation and diagnosis is shown by presenting an approach to diagnostic testing and giving an algorithm for test point placement. The compatibility of the functional simulation technique and the partitioning of the system for diagnosis is indicated.

TL;DR: Variations in the geometrical and optical thickness of the block under investigation and its refractive index may be measured by means of scanning three interferograms and using computer analysis.
Abstract: A measuring method is described which is not limited by interferometer errors. Variations in the geometrical and optical thickness of the block under investigation and its refractive index may be measured by means of scanning three interferograms and using computer analysis. There also exists a possibility of calculating the rate of variation of these quantities according to coordinate alteration of the investigated block. Some measurement results are given, and analysis of measuring accuracy is carried out. Measuring accuracy for refractive index difference distribution may reach one part in 1 × 10−7 for centimeter thick samples.

TL;DR: In this paper, the spectral properties of β-naphthol single crystals in the 5700-6800 cm−1 range in polarized light have been measured and compared with experimental values.
Abstract: Spectra of β-naphthol single crystals in the 5700-6800 cm−1 range in polarized light have been measured. Dichroic ratios of 2vCH and 2vOH. bands have been calculated and compared with experimental values. The results confirm the assumption concerning the linearity of a hydrogen bond in β-naphthol. It has also been found that it is possible to sum contributions of transition moments of different oscillators in the total intensity of a group of overlapping bands. This fact may be understood in terms of an effective charge model concept.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the possibility of using the zero-crossing analysis of a speech signal in a short-term method of speaker identifi¬cation, which can find application in automatic speaker identification.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to investigate the possibility of using the zero--crossing analysis of a speech signal in a short-term method of speaker identifi¬cation. Four sets of parameters obtained with the aid of the zero-crossing analy¬sis are presented which can find application in automatic speaker identification. An experiment of speaker identification for 20 male speakers has been performed. The obtained results have confirmed the applicability of the method of zero--crossing analysis for tracking individual features of voices.
