TL;DR: In this article, the permutation flow shop problem is formulated as follows: each job has to be processed on m machines M 1, M 2, M 3 in order to minimize the time required to complete all jobs.
Abstract: The general flow — shop problem indicated by n|m|F|Cmax, can be formulated as follows. Each of n jobs J,…,Jn has to be processed on m machines M1,…,Mm in that order. Job Jj, j=1,…,n, thus consists of a sequence of m operations oj1..,,…,0. jm0jk corresponds to the processing of Jj on Mk during a processing time Pjk We want to find a processing order on each machine Mk such that the time required to complete all jobs is minimized. If the processing order is assumed to be the same on each machine, the resulting problem is called the permutation flow — shop problem, and indicated by n|m|F|Cmax.

TL;DR: The underlying notions are presented, and the proposed measures of similarity between Boolean search request formulations are justified and illustrated by examples, and some experimental results concerning the suggested similarity measures are given.
Abstract: The aim of this article is to propose a means of determining the similarity between search request formulations, which are Boolean combinations of descriptors. The similarity measures introduced can be used to cluster Boolean search request formulations. The search request formulation clusters can in turn be utilized in methods for clustering document representations. The initiation of the work on the methodology for determining similarity measures for Boolean search request formulations has been encouraged by hitherto performed experimental research into information retrieval systems with search request formulations in the form of sets of certain descriptors, i.e., in the same form as document representations. These experiments have shown a preponderance of those methods for clustering document representations that use previously formed clusters of search request formulations. We can expect that by using the proposed methodology for determining the similarity between Boolean combinations of descriptors, we might obtain similar results for the case of Boolean search request formulations. The introductory part of the article provides the background for undertaking the research reported. The underlying notions are then presented, and the proposed measures of similarity between Boolean search request formulations are justified and illustrated by examples. In addition, some experimental results concerning the suggested similarity measures are given.

TL;DR: The heat capacities of diphenyl, p-terphenyl and p-quaterphenyl from 180 K to their melting points were measured with a Perkin-Elmer DSC 1B scanning calorimeter as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The heat capacities of diphenyl,p-terphenyl andp-quaterphenyl from 180 K to their melting points were measured with a Perkin-Elmer DSC 1B scanning calorimeter Anomalies were observed in the heat capacity curves forp-terphenyl (from 400 K to the melting point) andp-quaterphenyl (from 190 to 260 K, and from 450 to 540 K) It is assumed that the anomalies near the melting points of the compounds under consideration could be related both to modification of the motion of the phenyl rings (external or/and internal) and to change in the motion of the molecules as a whole (diffusion phase)

TL;DR: In this article, the polarized Raman spectra of meta-nitroaniline single crystals in the 10−150 cm−1 region as well as the far-infrared spectrum of the (010) platelets in the 20−200 cm− 1 region have been measured and assignments of all expected bands have been proposed on the basis of the observed polarizations.
Abstract: The polarized Raman spectra of meta-nitroaniline single crystals in the 10–150 cm−1 region as well as the far-infrared spectra of the (010) platelets in the 20–200 cm−1 region have been measured and assignments of all expected bands have been proposed on the basis of the observed polarizations. To estimate the influence of the electrooptical properties of the crystal on the lattice spectra, the relative intensities of librational bands have been calculated from the oriented gas model, and observed discrepancies have been discussed. Comparisons with the spectra of the isomeric crystal p-nitroaniline and of a similar non-centrosymmetric crystal m-chloronitrobenzene have been made.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the properties of weak base membranes with diethylamine groups, obtained by chemical and physical modification of the polyethylene/poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene) system (PE/poly (St-Co-DVB)) and found that the properties depend on the kind of the inert diluent used during interpenetration.
Abstract: Changes in the properties of weak base membranes with diethylamine groups, obtained by chemical and physical modification of the polyethylene/poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene) system (PE/poly(St-co-DVB)) have been studied. The chemical modification was effected by interpenetrating of St and DVB in the presence of toluene or iso-octane inside the PE/poly(St-co-DVB) system (IPN system). It has been found that the properties of thus obtained membranes depend on the kind of the inert diluent used during interpenetration. The IPN systems have made it possible to obtain membranes possessing very good transport properties toward strong mineral acids. The physical modification of the PE/poly(St-co-DVB) system through an expanding process does not bring about any chemical and mechanical destruction of the membrane material, but the transport properties are markedly improved by such an operation. The strongest effect of that kind was exhibited by membranes obtained from sol-type copolymer St and DVB.

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple procedure for the determination of solidus and liquidus temperatures from DSC data is proposed, based on O'Neill's model, and an expression for the melting interval of solid solutions, ΔT, has been derived.
Abstract: A Perkin-Elmer 1B DSC apparatus was used to test the O'Neill expression for the melting interval of pure compounds on samples of organic compounds 1–10 mg in weight. On the basis of O'Neill's model, an expression for the melting interval of solid solutions,ΔT, has been derived. The difference betweenΔT andT1− Ts (T1 andTs = =liquidus and solidus temperatures) is discussed. A simple procedure for the determination of solidus and liquidus temperatures from DSC data is proposed.

TL;DR: In this article, a second-order (ABX) NMR spectrum was obtained for a given 13C NMR signal at high magnetic fields, where the double bonds of the 31P nuclei were assumed to be doublets of doublets and thus constitute X in an AMX spectrum.
Abstract: The easily obtained dimers of phosphole oxides, sulfides and methiodides give 13C NMR spectra where carbons within three (sometimes four) bonds of each 31P nucleus are doublets of doublets and thus constitute X in an AMX spectrum. Most of the spectra have been completely interpreted with the aid of spectral measurements at two magnetic fields. Saturation of the double bonds in dimers of methylphosphole–P(IV) derivatives causes the 31P nuclei to have very similar chemical shifts, with Δν not adequately different from 3J(PP) to give first-order coupling. When both 31P nuclei couple with a given 13C, a second-order (ABX) 31C NMR spectrum is obtained. The presence of the effect is revealed by running the 13C NMR spectra at high magnetic field; J(AX)+J(BX) is constant at all fields, but spacing between the lines of the multiplet varies. The spectrum of the oxide, with Δν/J=1.44 for the 31P spectrum at 36.43 MHz, approaches first order character at 75 MHz; the methiodide spectrum (Δν/J=4.55) is second order at 15 MHz but clearly first order at 50 MHz, and the sulfide (Δν/J=5.6) is nearly first order at 15 MHz. [2 + 2]-Photochemical intramolecular cyclization of the dimer oxides provides cage-like structures where the 31P nuclei are chemically equivalent, but magnetically non-equivalent, making the 13C signals have the characteristics of X in an AA′X coupling pattern.
