TL;DR: In this article, a semi-empirical all-valence method, GRINDOL (Ghost and Rydberg INDO), based on the INDO approximation, is described.
Abstract: A new semiempirical all-valence method, GRINDOL (Ghost and Rydberg INDO), based on the INDO approximation, is described. Linderberg–Seamans relation (extended to the d and Rydberg orbitals) for the resonance integrals and a new semitheoretical expression for the core-core repulsion term and energy correction including basis-set superposition error (intermolecular as well as intramolecular) has been applied. The proposed method enables calculation of ground and excited state properties. The ground state results (including intermolecular interactions) as well as the spectral properties are in reasonable agreement with relevant experimental (or ab initio) studies for isolated molecules, molecular complexes, and transition metal compounds. The method contains only one adjustable parameter, all two-center integrals and terms are only basis-set dependent. The one-center integrals are evaluated from the respective atomic terms.

TL;DR: In this paper, a non-permutation flow shop scheduling problem is studied, in which the duration of each operation on certain machines is a linear function of the allotted part of a constrained resource (e.g., energy, fuel, catalyzer, oxygen, raw material, money).
Abstract: The paper deals with a version of the general non-permutation flow-shop scheduling problem in which the duration of each operation on certain machines is a linear function of the allotted part of a constrained resource (e.g. energy, fuel, catalyzer, oxygen, raw material, money) and the objective is to determine both a sequence of the operations on each machine and an allocation of resource to each operation in order to minimize the over-all completion time. The algorithm for solving this problem is based on the disjunctive graph theory and branch and bound technique. Due to the present elimination properties, the search tree is strongly restricted. It applies a special system of fixing precedence relations in each node of the search tree yielding strong lower and upper bounds. To quickly obtain a strong upper bound a special heuristic method is used (to calculate a good initial solution) and the descendants in the search tree are chosen in order of the non-decreasing lower bounds. Some computational resul...

TL;DR: In this article, conductive oxide powders (IrO2, RuO2 and Bi2Ru2O7) were prepared on alumina substrates by a thick-film technique and the films were fired at 875° C for different dwell times.
Abstract: Layers of conductive oxide powders (IrO2, RuO2 and Bi2Ru2O7) were prepared on alumina substrates by a thick-film technique. The films were fired at 875° C for different dwell times. The temperature dependence of resistance was measured in the range −196 to 850° C. SEM observations of the initial powders and the resistive layer surface after firing, as well as X-ray diffraction investigations, were carried out. The RuO2 and IrO2 oxides exhibit a high sintering ratio and the resistance of the fired layers increases with temperature as in the single crystal. The R(T) curve for Bi2Ru2O7 layers is in qualitative agreement with the polycrystalline material. The role of the grain surface area and the regions between the grains is dominant.

Abstract: The ‘Linguistic Pattern’ approach to the facilities and panels layout is presented. This approach is based on Zadeh's possibility theory and the Lukasiewicz multivalued implication formula. The idea of the approach is presented on the basis of a simple exemplary problem of an automobile display arrangement. The general idea of a computer algorithm is presented and some potential benefits of the proposed approach are discussed.

Abstract: An optimal medium for lipolytic productivity of selected bacterial strains contains soybean meal as the nitrogen source and soluble starch, or sucrose or maltose as a carbon source. The temperature of 42°C and pH 8.6 were in general the most suitable for lipolytic productivity but 22°C and pH 8.6 were the optimum temperature for the production of lipase byPs. fluorescens.

Abstract: A phenomenological theory of improper ferroelastic Phase Transition, that superionic hydrogen-bonded Rb3H(SeO4)2, crystals undergo at Tc = 447 K, is presented. The temperature dependences of components of the spontaneous deformation tensor, elastic coefficient tensor, and electric conductivity in the vicinity of phase transition are calculated. A possible microscopic model of order–disorder type of the phase transition in the proton subsystem is discussed briefly. [Russian Text Ignored].

Abstract: Seventeen derivatives of 1-amino-1-methylethylphosphonic acid were synthesised and evaluated for plant-growth-regulating activity using Cucumis sativus and Triticum aestivum. The tested compounds exerted either moderate herbicidal action or stimulated plant growth. The structure-activity relationships were similar to those observed earlier for the derivatives of 9-aminofluoren-9-ylphosphonic acids (phosphonic analogues of morphactins).

TL;DR: In this paper, a group of chemodegradable surfactants which readily hydrolyze and oxidize in natural water reservoirs were derived, based on acid-catalyzed reactions of long chain aliphatic aldehydes (I) with 1,1,1-tris(hydroxymethyl)propane (II), 2-alkyl-5-hydroxmethyl-5,ethyl-1,3-dioxanes (III) and cyclic cyclic acetal derivatives (IV) were obtained.
Abstract: In acid-catalyzed reactions of long chain aliphatic aldehydes (I) (R=n−C7H15; n−C9H19; n−C11H23) with 1,1,1-tris(hydroxymethyl)propane (II), 2-alkyl-5-hydroxymethyl-5-ethyl-1,3-dioxanes (III) were obtained. The latter were then reacted with ethylene oxide in the presence of sodium methoxide. Three series of oxyethylenated cyclic acetal derivatives (IV) were obtained. They constitute a new group of chemodegradable surfactants which readily hydrolyze and oxidize in natural water reservoirs. Physical data of the new compounds and some surface properties such as cloud points (Cp), critical micelle concentrations (cmc), changes of free energy of micellization, (ΔG°cmc), surface tensions of aqueous solutions near cmc, γmin, and wetting and foaming properties, were determined. The surfactants (IV) have aqueous solution properties similar to those of oxyethylenated longchain aliphatic alcohols. It is shown that the micellization of surfactants (IV), expressed in terms of ΔG°cmc, depends both on the length of the aliphatic chain at the C-2 carbon atom and on the presence of ethyl group at C-5 of 1,3-dioxane ring which enhances the hydrophobic character of derivatives (III). Hence, the surfactants have a higher surface activity than oxyethylenated 2-alkyl-4-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxolanes or 2-alkyl-5,5-bis-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-dioxanes. The use of 2-alkyl-5-hydroxymethyl-5-ethyl-1,3-dioxanes (III) in surfactant synthesis is an example of applying hydrophobic intermediates obtained from aldehydes only. This, and the chemodegradability mentioned make the compounds a very interesting group of new surfactants.

TL;DR: In this paper, the classical theoretical problem of thermal ignition and extinction in a reactive slab of infinite extent under conditions near transition to continuous behavior is revisited, where the system is governed by two parameters: the Frank-Kamenetskii parameter and the dimensionless adiabatic temperature rise.
Abstract: The classical theoretical problem of thermal ignition and extinction in a reactive slab of infinite extent under conditions near transition to continuous behaviour is revisited. It is assumed that the system is governed by two parameters. The first corresponds to the Frank-Kamenetskii parameter, $\delta$; the second is in some circumstances related to the dimensionless ambient temperature of inverse activation energy ($\beta = RT \_a/E$) and in other circumstances to the dimensionless adiabatic temperature rise ($\theta\_{ad}$ or B). The value of the second parameter ($\beta$ or B) is assumed to be close to its transition value, where a `cuspoidal' behaviour of the reacting system appears. A perturbation analysis of the problem shows that additional, spatially distributed states exist in the system in the form of travelling waves of reaction. One of the newly discovered solutions is stable and corresponds to the one-dimensional combustion wave. The second solution is unstable and cannot be related to a real physical situation.
