TL;DR: Ferrous-supply-regeneration nanoengineering is constructed to intervene tumorous iron metabolism for enhanced ferroptosis and SRF@FeIIITA-mediated cell death proves to follow the ferroPTosis pathway and strongly inhibits tumor proliferation.
Abstract: Non-apoptotic ferroptosis is of clinical importance because it offers a solution to the inevitable biocarriers of traditional apoptotic therapeutic means. Inspired by industrial electro-Fenton tech...

TL;DR: Through a multivariate analysis of the causes of death in older patients, it was found that males, comorbidities, time from disease onset to hospitalization, abnormal kidney function, and elevated procalcitonin levels were all significantly associated with death.
Abstract: Background In December 2019, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) emerged in Wuhan city and spread rapidly throughout China and the world. In this study, we aimed to describe the clinical course and outcomes of older patients with COVID-19. Methods This is a retrospective investigation of hospitalized older patients with confirmed COVID-19 at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University from January 1, 2020, to February 10, 2020. Results In total, 203 patients were diagnosed with COVID-19, with a median age of 54 years (interquartile range, 41-68; range, 20-91 years). Men accounted for 108 (53.2%) of the cases, and 55 patients (27.1%) were more than 65 years of age. Among patients who were 65 years and older, the mortality rate was 34.5% (19/55), which was significantly higher than that of the younger patients at 4.7% (7/148). Common symptoms of older patients with COVID-19 included fever (94.5%; n = 52), dry cough (69.1%; n = 38), and chest distress (63.6%; n = 35). Compared with young patients, older patients had more laboratory abnormalities and comorbidities. Through a multivariate analysis of the causes of death in older patients, we found that males, comorbidities, time from disease onset to hospitalization, abnormal kidney function, and elevated procalcitonin levels were all significantly associated with death. Conclusions In the recent outbreak of COVID-19, our local hospital in Wuhan found that patients aged 65 and older had greater initial comorbidities, more severe symptoms, and were more likely to experience multiorgan involvement and death, as compared to younger patients.

TL;DR: The interaction of biochar and composting and its implication for soil amendment and pollution remediation is reviewed and the future research required in this field is discussed.
Abstract: Compost and biochar, used for the remediation of soil, are seen as attractive waste management options for the increasing volume of organic wastes being produced. This paper reviews the interaction of biochar and composting and its implication for soil amendment and pollution remediation. The interaction of biochar and composting affect each other’s properties. Biochar could change the physico-chemical properties, microorganisms, degradation, humification and gas emission of composting, such as the increase of nutrients, cation exchange capacity (CEC), organic matter and microbial activities. The composting could also change the physico-chemical properties and facial functional groups of biochar, such as the improvement of nutrients, CEC, functional groups and organic matter. These changes would potentially improve the efficiency of the biochar and composting for soil amendment and pollution remediation. Based on the above review, this paper also discusses the future research required in this field.

TL;DR: It is found that the position of the functional groups on the BTB unit allows the selection for a specific net (qom, pyr, and rtl), and that mixing of functionalities is an important strategy for the incorporation of a specific functionality into MOF-177 where otherwise incorporation of such functionality would be difficult.
Abstract: Metal-organic framework-177 (MOF-177) is one of the most porous materials whose structure is composed of octahedral Zn4O(-COO)6 and triangular 1,3,5-benzenetribenzoate (BTB) units to make a three-dimensional extended network based on the qom topology. This topology violates a long-standing thesis where highly symmetric building units are expected to yield highly symmetric networks. In the case of octahedron and triangle combinations, MOFs based on pyrite (pyr) and rutile (rtl) nets were expected instead of qom. In this study, we have made 24 MOF-177 structures with different functional groups on the triangular BTB linker, having one or more functionalities. We find that the position of the functional groups on the BTB unit allows the selection for a specific net (qom, pyr, and rtl), and that mixing of functionalities (-H, -NH2, and -C4H4) is an important strategy for the incorporation of a specific functionality (-NO2) into MOF-177 where otherwise incorporation of such functionality would be difficult. Such mixing of functionalities to make multivariate MOF-177 structures leads to enhancement of hydrogen uptake by 25%.
