TL;DR: A survey on blockchain-powered sustainable manufacturing in Industry 4.0 is presented in this article, which sheds new light on urgent issues as part of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
Abstract: Sustainability is a pressing need, as well as an engineering challenge, in the modern world. Developing smart technologies is a critical way to ensure that future manufacturing systems are sustainable. Blockchain is a next-generation development of information technology for realizing sustainability in businesses and industries. Much research on blockchain-empowered sustainable manufacturing in Industry 4.0 has been conducted from technical, commercial, organizational, and operational perspectives. This paper surveys how blockchain can overcome potential barriers to achieving sustainability from two perspectives, namely, the manufacturing system perspective and the product lifecycle management perspective. The survey first examines literature on these two perspectives, following which the state of research in blockchain-empowered sustainable manufacturing is presented, which sheds new light on urgent issues as part of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. We found that blockchain-empowered transformation of a sustainable manufacturing paradigm is still in an early stage of the hype phase, proceeding toward full adoption. The survey ends with a discussion of challenges regarding techniques, social barriers, standards, and regulations with respect to blockchain-empowered manufacturing applications. The paper concludes with a discussion of challenges and social barriers that blockchain technology must overcome to demonstrate its sustainability in industrial and business spheres.

TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive summary and discussion of the uses of HRE in terms of space heating, cooling, hot water usage, power generation, hydrogen production, drying and multi-generation are conducted.
Abstract: The utilization of renewable energy is significantly important for the world because global energy consumption is increasing, while conventional energy sources are no longer sufficient to meet the energy demand, triggering energy crises. However, variation in solar radiation and wind speed caused by climate and weather conditions restricts the stable operation of renewable energy systems, therefore, causing the output to fluctuate. A hybrid renewable energy (HRE) system can be highly efficient by combining multiple renewable energy sources and is regarded as a promising solution to the above issue. In this review, a comprehensive summary and discussion of the uses of HRE in terms of space heating, cooling, hot water usage, power generation, hydrogen production, drying and multi-generation are conducted. Hybrid system configurations, specific devices, application procedures, and performance are reviewed. Moreover, the challenges and outlook for HRE utilization are discussed, including the following points: proper use of the local sources in view of disperse and regional distribution of renewable energy; development of hybrid storage subsystems for HRE to improve the stability of the energy supply; further optimization of the operation strategy and system size to minimize the cost in order to promote the application; and, clear identification of the supporting local policies of renewable energy, especially considering HRE. Furthermore, the research potential is described for HRE utilization integrating direct CO2 reduction.

TL;DR: This paper study a variety of data pricing models, categorize them into different groups, and conduct a comprehensive comparison of the pros and cons of these models, and focuses on the design of data trading platforms and schemes, supporting efficient, secure, and privacy-preserving data trading.
Abstract: Big data is considered to be the key to unlocking the next great waves of growth in productivity. The amount of collected data in our world has been exploding due to a number of new applications and technologies that permeate our daily lives, including mobile and social networking applications, and Internet of Thing-based smart-world systems (smart grid, smart transportation, smart cities, and so on). With the exponential growth of data, how to efficiently utilize the data becomes a critical issue. This calls for the development of a big data market that enables efficient data trading. Via pushing data as a kind of commodity into a digital market, the data owners and consumers are able to connect with each other, sharing and further increasing the utility of data. Nonetheless, to enable such an effective market for data trading, several challenges need to be addressed, such as determining proper pricing for the data to be sold or purchased, designing a trading platform and schemes to enable the maximization of social welfare of trading participants with efficiency and privacy preservation, and protecting the traded data from being resold to maintain the value of the data. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive survey on the lifecycle of data and data trading. To be specific, we first study a variety of data pricing models, categorize them into different groups, and conduct a comprehensive comparison of the pros and cons of these models. Then, we focus on the design of data trading platforms and schemes, supporting efficient, secure, and privacy-preserving data trading. Finally, we review digital copyright protection mechanisms, including digital copyright identifier, digital rights management, digital encryption, watermarking, and others, and outline challenges in data protection in the data trading lifecycle.

TL;DR: The metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been used as excellent platforms for designing luminescent sensors as mentioned in this paper, which can be generated from the building ligands, emissive metal ions, guest ions, or molecules used to construct them as well as from their catalytic activities.
Abstract: Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), with diverse framework architectures, have evolved as next-generation utility multifunctional hybrid materials. One of the key features of MOFs is their luminescence properties, which can be generated from the building ligands, emissive metal ions, guest ions, or molecules used to construct them as well as from their catalytic activities. MOFs with luminescent properties have been used as excellent platforms for designing luminescent sensors. Their chemically tailorable framework with specific host–guest interactions plays an important role in selectively sensing metal ions, small organic molecules, and biomolecules. This review intends to summarize the recent advances in the construction of MOF-based sensors for chemical sensing and biosensing. Specially, we focus on the fabrication strategies of MOF-based luminescent sensors, and summarize their sensing mechanisms in detail. Also, the major challenges and constraints for this research field are discussed.
