TL;DR: The authors report on the development of injectable, biocompatible carbon nanotube reinforced quaternized chitosan cryogels with shape memory, conductivity and antibacterial properties for hemostatic control for lethal noncompressible hemorrhage hemostasis and wound healing.
Abstract: Developing injectable antibacterial and conductive shape memory hemostatic with high blood absorption and fast recovery for irregularly shaped and noncompressible hemorrhage remains a challenge. Here we report injectable antibacterial conductive cryogels based on carbon nanotube (CNT) and glycidyl methacrylate functionalized quaternized chitosan for lethal noncompressible hemorrhage hemostasis and wound healing. These cryogels present robust mechanical strength, rapid blood-triggered shape recovery and absorption speed, and high blood uptake capacity. Moreover, cryogels show better blood-clotting ability, higher blood cell and platelet adhesion and activation than gelatin sponge and gauze. Cryogel with 4 mg/mL CNT (QCSG/CNT4) shows better hemostatic capability than gauze and gelatin hemostatic sponge in mouse-liver injury model and mouse-tail amputation model, and better wound healing performance than Tegaderm™ film. Importantly, QCSG/CNT4 presents excellent hemostatic performance in rabbit liver defect lethal noncompressible hemorrhage model and even better hemostatic ability than Combat Gauze in standardized circular liver bleeding model.

TL;DR: Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid prognostics approach in improving the accuracy and convergence of RUL prediction of rolling element bearings.
Abstract: Remaining useful life (RUL) prediction of rolling element bearings plays a pivotal role in reducing costly unplanned maintenance and increasing the reliability, availability, and safety of machines. This paper proposes a hybrid prognostics approach for RUL prediction of rolling element bearings. First, degradation data of bearings are sparsely represented using relevance vector machine regressions with different kernel parameters. Then, exponential degradation models coupled with the Frechet distance are employed to estimate the RUL adaptively. The proposed approach is evaluated using the vibration data from accelerated degradation tests of rolling element bearings and the public PRONOSTIA bearing datasets. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in improving the accuracy and convergence of RUL prediction of rolling element bearings.

TL;DR: An overview of the current strategies for synthesizing self-healing gels based on the concept of constitutional dynamic chemistry, which involves molecular structures capable of establishing dynamic networks based upon physical interactions or chemical reactions is presented.
Abstract: As representative soft materials with widespread applications, gels with various functions have been developed. However, traditional gels are vulnerable to stress-induced formation of cracks. The propagation of these cracks may affect the integrity of network structures of gels, resulting in the loss of functionality and limiting the service life of the gels. To address this challenge, self-healing gels that can restore their functionalities and structures after damage have been developed as “smart” soft materials. In this paper, we present an overview of the current strategies for synthesizing self-healing gels based on the concept of constitutional dynamic chemistry, which involves molecular structures capable of establishing dynamic networks based upon physical interactions or chemical reactions. The characterization methods of self-healing gels and the key factors that affect self-healing properties are analyzed. We also illustrate the emerging applications of self-healing gels, with emphasis on their usage in industry (coatings, sealants) and biomedicine (tissue adhesives, agents for drug or cell delivery). We conclude with a perspective on challenges facing the field, along with prospects for future development.

TL;DR: In this article, a deep learning approach is proposed to predict the probabilistic distribution of motion blur at the patch level using a convolutional neural network (CNN) and further extend the candidate set of motion kernels predicted by the CNN using carefully designed image rotations.
Abstract: In this paper, we address the problem of estimating and removing non-uniform motion blur from a single blurry image. We propose a deep learning approach to predicting the probabilistic distribution of motion blur at the patch level using a convolutional neural network (CNN). We further extend the candidate set of motion kernels predicted by the CNN using carefully designed image rotations. A Markov random field model is then used to infer a dense non-uniform motion blur field enforcing motion smoothness. Finally, motion blur is removed by a non-uniform deblurring model using patch-level image prior. Experimental evaluations show that our approach can effectively estimate and remove complex non-uniform motion blur that is not handled well by previous approaches.

TL;DR: In this article, a model that specifies the relationship between internal integration, relationship commitment, and external integration, using data collected from manufacturing firms in China, is proposed and tested, and the results indicate that for Chinese controlled companies where there is a strong collectivism culture and more reliance on "Guanxi" (relationship), relationship commitment has a significant impact on external integration with suppliers and customers.
