TL;DR: This Review focuses on the crystallization mechanisms of PCMs as well as the design principles to achieve PCMs with high switching speeds and good data retention, which will aid the development of PCM-based universal memory and neuro-inspired devices.
Abstract: The global demand for data storage and processing has increased exponentially in recent decades. To respond to this demand, research efforts have been devoted to the development of non-volatile memory and neuro-inspired computing technologies. Chalcogenide phase-change materials (PCMs) are leading candidates for such applications, and they have become technologically mature with recently released competitive products. In this Review, we focus on the mechanisms of the crystallization dynamics of PCMs by discussing structural and kinetic experiments, as well as ab initio atomistic modelling and materials design. Based on the knowledge at the atomistic level, we depict routes to improve the parameters of phase-change devices for universal memory. Moreover, we discuss the role of crystallization in enabling neuro-inspired computing using PCMs. Finally, we present an outlook for future opportunities of PCMs, including all-photonic memories and processors, flexible displays with nanopixel resolution and nanoscale switches and controllers. TL;DR: A family of alginate/polyacrylamide hydrogels using various multivalent cations is synthesized, which exhibits exceptional mechanical properties and is discovered that the hydrogel cross-linked by trivalent cations are much stronger than those cross- linked by divalent cATIONS.
Abstract: We successfully synthesized a family of alginate/polyacrylamide hydrogels using various multivalent cations. These hydrogels exhibit exceptional mechanical properties. In particular, we discovered that the hydrogels cross-linked by trivalent cations are much stronger than those cross-linked by divalent cations. We demonstrate stretchability and toughness of the hydrogels by inflating a hydrogel sheet into a large balloon, and the elasticity by using a hydrogel block as a vibration isolator in a forced vibration test. The excellent mechanical properties of these hydrogels may open up applications for hydrogels.

TL;DR: A π-conjugated Lewis base is introduced into perovskite solar cells, namely, indacenodithiophene end-capped with 1.1-dicyanomethylene-3-indanone (IDIC), as a multifunctional interlayer, which combines efficient trap-passivation and electron-extraction.
Abstract: A π-conjugated Lewis base is introduced into perovskite solar cells, namely, indacenodithiophene end-capped with 1.1-dicyanomethylene-3-indanone (IDIC), as a multifunctional interlayer, which combines efficient trap-passivation and electron-extraction. Perovskite solar cells with IDIC layers yield higher photovoltages and photocurrents, and 45% enhanced efficiency compared with control devices without IDIC.

TL;DR: This work indicates that a high crystallinity and the face-on orientation of polymers could be obtained by forming alloy with two miscible donors, thus paving a way to largely enhance the PCE of OSCs by using the ternary blend strategy.
Abstract: Ternary organic solar cells are promising candidates for bulk heterojunction solar cells; however, improving the power conversion efficiency (PCE) is quite challenging because the ternary system is complicated on phase separation behavior. In this study, a ternary organic solar cell (OSC) with two donors, including one polymer (PTB7-Th), one small molecule (p-DTS(FBTTH2)2), and one acceptor (PC71BM), is fabricated. We propose the two donors in the ternary blend forms an alloy. A notable averaged PCE of 10.5% for ternary OSC is obtained due to the improvement of the fill factor (FF) and the short-circuit current density (Jsc), and the open-circuit voltage (Voc) does not pin to the smaller Voc of the corresponding binary blends. A highly ordered face-on orientation of polymer molecules is obtained due to the formation of an alloy structure, which facilitates the enhancement of charge separation and transport and the reduction of charge recombination. This work indicates that a high crystallinity and the fac...

TL;DR: Two mutually exclusive GSC subtypes, harboring distinct metabolic signaling pathways, represent intertumoral glioma heterogeneity and highlight previously unidentified roles of ALDH1A3-associated signaling that promotes aberrant proliferation of Mes HGGs and GSCs.
Abstract: Tumor heterogeneity of high-grade glioma (HGG) is recognized by four clinically relevant subtypes based on core gene signatures. However, molecular signaling in glioma stem cells (GSCs) in individual HGG subtypes is poorly characterized. Here we identified and characterized two mutually exclusive GSC subtypes with distinct dysregulated signaling pathways. Analysis of mRNA profiles distinguished proneural (PN) from mesenchymal (Mes) GSCs and revealed a pronounced correlation with the corresponding PN or Mes HGGs. Mes GSCs displayed more aggressive phenotypes in vitro and as intracranial xenografts in mice. Further, Mes GSCs were markedly resistant to radiation compared with PN GSCs. The glycolytic pathway, comprising aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) family genes and in particular ALDH1A3, were enriched in Mes GSCs. Glycolytic activity and ALDH activity were significantly elevated in Mes GSCs but not in PN GSCs. Expression of ALDH1A3 was also increased in clinical HGG compared with low-grade glioma or normal brain tissue. Moreover, inhibition of ALDH1A3 attenuated the growth of Mes but not PN GSCs. Last, radiation treatment of PN GSCs up-regulated Mes-associated markers and down-regulated PN-associated markers, whereas inhibition of ALDH1A3 attenuated an irradiation-induced gain of Mes identity in PN GSCs. Taken together, our data suggest that two subtypes of GSCs, harboring distinct metabolic signaling pathways, represent intertumoral glioma heterogeneity and highlight previously unidentified roles of ALDH1A3-associated signaling that promotes aberrant proliferation of Mes HGGs and GSCs. Inhibition of ALDH1A3-mediated pathways therefore might provide a promising therapeutic approach for a subset of HGGs with the Mes signature.
