TL;DR: This paper proposes a novel deep cross-modal hashing method to generate compact hash codes through an end-to-end deep learning architecture, which can effectively capture the intrinsic relationships between various modalities.
Abstract: With benefits of low storage cost and fast query speed, cross-modal hashing has received considerable attention recently. However, almost all existing methods on cross-modal hashing cannot obtain powerful hash codes due to directly utilizing hand-crafted features or ignoring heterogeneous correlations across different modalities, which will greatly degrade the retrieval performance. In this paper, we propose a novel deep cross-modal hashing method to generate compact hash codes through an end-to-end deep learning architecture, which can effectively capture the intrinsic relationships between various modalities. Our architecture integrates different types of pairwise constraints to encourage the similarities of the hash codes from an intra-modal view and an inter-modal view, respectively. Moreover, additional decorrelation constraints are introduced to this architecture, thus enhancing the discriminative ability of each hash bit. Extensive experiments show that our proposed method yields state-of-the-art results on two cross-modal retrieval datasets.

TL;DR: An optimized ICF method which determines an optimal frequency response filter for each ICF iteration using convex optimization techniques is developed and the clipped OFDM symbols obtained have less distortion and lower out-of-band radiation than the existing method.
Abstract: Iterative clipping and filtering (ICF) is a widely used technique to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. However, the ICF technique, when implemented with a fixed rectangular window in the frequency-domain, requires many iterations to approach specified PAPR threshold in the complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF). In this paper, we develop an optimized ICF method which determines an optimal frequency response filter for each ICF iteration using convex optimization techniques. The design of optimal filter is to minimize signal distortion such that the OFDM symbol's PAPR is below a specified value. Simulation results show that our proposed method can achieve a sharp drop of CCDF curve and reduce PAPR to an acceptable level after only 1 or 2 iterations, whereas the classical ICF method would require 8 to 16 iterations to achieve a similar PAPR reduction. Moreover, the clipped OFDM symbols obtained by our optimized ICF method have less distortion and lower out-of-band radiation than the existing method.

TL;DR: This review focuses on recent developments of nanoscintillators with high energy transfer efficiency, their rational designs, as well as potential applications in next-generation PDT.
Abstract: Achieving effective treatment of deep-seated tumors is a major challenge for traditional photodynamic therapy (PDT) due to difficulties in delivering light into the subsurface. Thanks to their great tissue penetration, X-rays hold the potential to become an ideal excitation source for activating photosensitizers (PS) that accumulate in deep tumor tissue. Recently, a wide variety of nanoparticles have been developed for this purpose. The nanoparticles are designed as carriers for loading various kinds of PSs and can facilitate the activation process by transferring energy harvested from X-ray irradiation to the loaded PS. In this review, we focus on recent developments of nanoscintillators with high energy transfer efficiency, their rational designs, as well as potential applications in next-generation PDT. Treatment of deep-seated tumors by using radioisotopes as an internal light source will also be discussed.

TL;DR: Simulations and experimental results show that the proposed ADRC achieves a better position response and is robust to parameter variation and load disturbance.
Abstract: A highly robust automatic disturbances rejection controller (ADRC) is developed to implement high-precision motion control of permanent-magnet synchronous motors. The proposed ADRC consists of a tracking differentiator (TD) in the feedforward path, an extended state observer (ESO), and a nonlinear proportional derivative control in the feedback path. The TD solves the difficulties posed by low-order reference trajectories which are quantized at the sensor resolution, and the ESO provides the estimate of the unmeasured system's state and the real action of the unknown disturbances only based on a measurement output of the system. Simulations and experimental results show that the proposed ADRC achieves a better position response and is robust to parameter variation and load disturbance. Furthermore, the ADRC is designed directly in discrete time with a simple structure and fast computation, which make it widely applicable to all other types of derives.

TL;DR: An improved version of CS-based high-resolution imaging to overcome strong noise and clutter by combining coherent projectors and weighting with the CS optimization for ISAR image generation is presented.
Abstract: The theory of compressed sampling (CS) indicates that exact recovery of an unknown sparse signal can be achieved from very limited samples. For inversed synthetic aperture radar (ISAR), the image of a target is usually constructed by strong scattering centers whose number is much smaller than that of pixels of an image plane. This sparsity of the ISAR signal intrinsically paves a way to apply CS to the reconstruction of high-resolution ISAR imagery. CS-based high-resolution ISAR imaging with limited pulses is developed, and it performs well in the case of high signal-to-noise ratios. However, strong noise and clutter are usually inevitable in radar imaging, which challenges current high-resolution imaging approaches based on parametric modeling, including the CS-based approach. In this paper, we present an improved version of CS-based high-resolution imaging to overcome strong noise and clutter by combining coherent projectors and weighting with the CS optimization for ISAR image generation. Real data are used to test the robustness of the improved CS imaging compared with other current techniques. Experimental results show that the approach is capable of precise estimation of scattering centers and effective suppression of noise.
