TL;DR: In this paper, resistive switching (RS) devices based on naturally silk protein with configurable functionality are demonstrated, and two types of memory devices, working in random access and WORM modes, can be achieved with the RS effect.
Abstract: The employ of natural biomaterials as the basic building blocks of electronic devices is of growing interest for biocompatible and green electronics. Here, resistive switching (RS) devices based on naturally silk protein with configurable functionality are demonstrated. The RS type of the devices can be effectively and exactly controlled by controlling the compliance current in the set process. Memory RS can be triggered by a higher compliance current, while threshold RS can be triggered by a lower compliance current. Furthermore, two types of memory devices, working in random access and WORM modes, can be achieved with the RS effect. The results suggest that silk protein possesses the potential for sustainable electronics and data storage. In addition, this finding would provide important guidelines for the performance optimization of biomaterials based memory devices and the study of the underlying mechanism behind the RS effect arising from biomaterials.

TL;DR: The proposed enhanced authentication scheme with unlinkability not only remedies its security flaws but also improves its performance and is more suitable for practical applications of WSNs than Xue et al.
Abstract: User authentication with unlinkability is one of the corner stone services for many security and privacy services which are required to secure communications in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Recently, Xue et al. proposed a temporal-credential-based mutual authentication and key agreement scheme for WSNs, and claimed that their scheme achieves identity and password protection, and the resiliency of stolen smart card attacks. However, we observe that Xue et al.’s scheme is subject to identity guessing attack, tracking attack, privileged insider attack and weak stolen smart card attack. In order to fix the drawbacks, we propose an enhanced authentication scheme with unlinkability. Additionally, the proposed scheme further cuts the computational cost. Therefore, the proposed scheme not only remedies its security flaws but also improves its performance. It is more suitable for practical applications of WSNs than Xue et al.’s scheme.

11 Jul 2016TL;DR: Experimental results show the superior performance of the pseudo-sequence-based scheme, which achieves as high as 6.6 dB gain compared with directly encoding the raw image by the legacy JPEG.
Abstract: We propose a pseudo-sequence-based scheme for light field image compression. In our scheme, the raw image captured by a light field camera is decomposed into multiple views according to the lenslet array of that camera. These views constitute a pseudo sequence like video, and the redundancy between views is exploited by a video encoder. The specific coding order of views, prediction structure, and rate allocation have been investigated for encoding the pseudo sequence. Experimental results show the superior performance of our scheme, which achieves as high as 6.6 dB gain compared with directly encoding the raw image by the legacy JPEG.

TL;DR: This article discusses index modulation and its general and specific representations, enhancements, and potential applications in various 5G scenarios and reveals whether, and how, index modulation may strive for more performance gains with less medium resource occupation.
Abstract: 5G wireless communications expect to bring both high spectrum efficiency and high energy efficiency. To meet the requirements, various new techniques have been proposed. Among these, the recently emerging index modulation has attracted significant interest. By judiciously activating a subset of certain communication building blocks, such as antenna, subcarrier, and time slot, index modulation is claimed to have the potential to meet the challenging 5G needs. In this article, we discuss index modulation and its general and specific representations, enhancements, and potential applications in various 5G scenarios. The objective is to reveal whether, and how, index modulation may strive for more performance gains with less medium resource occupation.
