TL;DR: The authors argued that an abstract/concrete mindset could decrease or increase the moral judgment of hypothetical scenarios, while an abstract mindset could increase or decrease moral judgment in real-world scenarios.
Abstract: . Past research produced mixed results regarding the effect of abstract/concrete mindset on the moral judgment of hypothetical scenarios. I argued that an abstract mindset could decrease or...

TL;DR: Yilmaz et al. as discussed by the authors focused on the problems posed by the endeavor to memorialize the Gallipoli campaign of World War I and the memorials designed by the principal architect of the Imperial (now Commonwealth) War Graves Commission, Sir John James Burnet.
Abstract: Memorialization on War-Broken Ground: Gallipoli War Cemeteries and Memorials Designed by Sir John James Burnet focuses on the problems posed by the endeavor to memorialize the Gallipoli campaign of World War I and the memorials designed by the principal architect of the Imperial (now Commonwealth) War Graves Commission, Sir John James Burnet. The commission’s work in Gallipoli is different from the memorials on the western front not only because its location is on “enemy” land but also because Burnet’s modifications of the commission’s design principles were developed to represent a coherent imperial identity around the world. Ahenk Yilmaz analyzes these modifications and the motives behind them to demonstrate the process by which the landscape and the stories of the campaign shaped the techniques of commemoration on this war-broken ground.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that in a fixed time frame the proposed algorithm produces images with a lower noise than that of the Inversion method, and can successfully represent a wide range of material types.
Abstract: We present a new real-time importance sampling algorithm for environment maps. Our method is based on representing environment maps using kd-tree structures, and generating samples with a single data lookup. An efficient algorithm has been developed for real-time image-based lighting applications. In this paper, we compared our algorithm with Inversion method [Fishman 1996]. We show that our proposed algorithm provides compactness and speedup as compared to Inversion method. Based on a number of rendered images, we have demonstrated that in a fixed time frame the proposed algorithm produces images with a lower noise than that of the Inversion method. We also demonstrate that our algorithm can successfully represent a wide range of material types.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the social responsibility practices of municipalities in Izmir City using a semi-structured interview with one municipal official from each municipality who works for managing Social Responsibility practices.
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to analyze the social responsibility practices of municipalities in Izmir City. Since the main purpose was to analyze different social responsibility practices of municipalities; two municipalities from urban districts, Karabaglar and Bornova, and two municipalities from rural districts, Kemalpasa and Seferihisar, were selected for qualitative research by using maximum variation sampling technique. The aim was to represent the social responsibility practices of municipalities chosen, not to generalize the findings to all municipalities in Izmir City. The technique of semi-structured interviewing was used to gather profound information regarding municipalities’ social responsibility practices. One municipal official from each municipality who works for managing social responsibility practices was chosen for the interview. While data obtained from the research was analyzing, direct quotations that reflect the interviewees’ opinions were used. According to the findings; it was found that municipalities conducted social responsibility practices regarding social support, health, education, culture, environment, and animals. It was recommended to municipalities that they should improve their social responsibility practices in order to ensure social welfare. Only four municipalities of total thirty municipalities in Izmir City were included to the research. The other municipalities’ social responsibility activities may be examined in further research within the scope of constituting a general social responsibility plan for Izmir City. This research contributes to the literature because it represents the social responsibility practices implemented by the municipalities in Izmir City

TL;DR: This study proposes a model for unit-load warehouses having a single cross aisle and multiple pickup & deposit (P&D) points located at the front side of the warehouse and presents that warehouses with width to depth ratio 3:1 are good for high number of P&D points.
Abstract: This study focuses on investigating the best layouts of a unit-load warehouse for single-command operation. We propose a model for unit-load warehouses having a single cross aisle and multiple pickup & deposit (P&D) points located at the front side of the warehouse. The model is constructed in continuous space for single-command travel and allows the cross aisle and picking aisles to take any angle between 0 and π. We then search for the best aisle arrangements that minimize the expected single-command distance from a given varying number of P&D points under randomized storage policy. Additionally, we introduce three material flow policies to investigate the effect of usage density of P&D points on the design. We also investigate the effects of shape ratio on angles of aisles in the best designs. Last, we also solved a problem instance with unsymmetrically allocated P&D points to show how to use our proposed models. Therefore, we present that warehouses with width to depth ratio 3:1 are good for high number of P&D points. We also show that the best designs provide more savings in travel over the equivalent traditional design if flows are more concentrated around the central P&D point. The best-found designs also present that the single-command distance can be reduced to 8–20% based on the characteristics of the unit-load warehouse.
